Effect.toggle error in 1.6.1
I have this line of code: new Effect.toggle(document.getElementsByClassName(''modarea'', Event.findElement(ev,''li'')), ''blind''); I''ve confirmed that the Effect.toggle is indeed getting the proper element, however, I''m getting this in my javascript console: element.visible is not a function (effects.js: line 153) I

IE Problem with document.getElementsByTag
Does anyone know if IE has a limit to how many object document.getElementsByTag can return? The main problem is that getElementsByClassName is not working on my page with IE but it works with Firefox. I''ve traced it back to the document.body.getElementsByTag(''*'') command. While inspecting the length Firefox returns 465. In IE the length alert returns [object]. When I

why some features uses new and some just static function call
Hi, when using prototype and scriptaculous, isn''t it confusing sometimes to remember which ones you have to use new and which ones that are just static function call. For example: new Insertion.Before(...); new Effect.Opacity(...) Effect.Fade(..); Effect.Appear(...); I havent really looked at the implementation, but out of curiosity, I''m just wondering is there a reason some

Prototype: toggle() not supported on TD in IE?
The following line causes trouble both with IE 6&7: cels[i].toggle(); It tells me that this element does not support the property or method. The element is a cell (TD) which I checked by outputting the tagName and it works with FF, Opera and Safari. The IE script debugger stops at this line but I didn''t find a single posting on the net with a similar problem which is kind of strange.

Effect.Highlight interferes with Effect.toggle
I''m using something like an accordion, but the div containers have some elements in them that use Effect.Highlight (i.e. InPlaceEditor and Ajax.Checkbox, one of my SAU classes). If I click the element that starts the Effect.SlideUp or some other similar effect, and then mouse over an element starting an Effect.Highlight, the highlight cancels the SlideUp. Or, if the Effect.Highlight

RE: document.getElementsByClassName (prototype) andElement.childrenWithClassName (scriptaculous) redundancy?
Isn''t the difference that the scriptaculous one only gets child nodes from the node you specify, whereas the prototype one gets all in the entire document? Still, it would be nice to just have the one, and let you pass in the document element if you wanted all of them. Just guessing, really. I haven''t looked at the code in question. onclick="Effect.toggle
I am using <a href="#" onclick="Effect.toggle(''one'',''slide''); return false;"> and everything is working fine. I began experimenting to see what other than click here verbage can trigger the effect and images do work. I tried inserting the object code of a SWF file. While the Flash movie does display it negates the effect. There is no

Bug? IE, getElementsByClassName and "length"
So, I have this form/datagrid thing. I want to have a button that clears the fields (not a reset, which would set them to the default state, I want them blank.) For various reasons, getByClassName seemed the best way to deal with this. Everything was fine on Moz/Firefox. Safari seems fine. But IE... Some detective work later, it seems that the problem is caused by *another* field on the page.

document.getElementsByClassName (prototype) and Element.childrenWithClassName (scriptaculous) redundancy?
Is there a reason scriptaculous provides what appears to be a redundant function? The reason I''m asking is that it only seems to be used twice throughout all of scriptaculous, and it doesn''t appear to work properly (for some reason it''s returning the actual element, rather than an array with all of the elements) If there is no reason, I''ll modify it to use

RE: Error: "onclick() is not a function"
I see what he is saying now. When you assign a click event with the Event.observe it does not allow you to call it with the $(''xxx'').onclick(); command as it''s looking for the onclick tag in the a tag. I''m stumped on a way to get this to work. Jon Whitcraft Web Application Developer Online Services - Indianapolis Motor Speedway (317) 492-8623

prototype's toQueryString() weird behavior in IE?
Hi all, situation: uploader + form with a "title", a "description" and a "tags" field. Using prototype I encode those (among other values) to a querystring. In the case a field is left empty, i want the querystring to look like this: &title=&message= ...etc. No problem in FF (pc/mac) but when i submit the empty values to IE, they are returned as

getElementsBySelector problem in IE
I''m having this problem with IE and getElementsBySelector, but am a relative js novice, so quite possible -- likely even -- that I''m doing something stupid. Either way, a fresh pair of eyes would help. Basically I''m duplicating a fieldset within a form (so you can upload more than one photo). [BTW, the fieldsets have a CSS id which relates to the object id of the
