kernel BUG at fs/btrfs/volumes.c:3707 still not fixed in 3.7.1 (btrfs-zero-log required) but shown as "RIP btrfs_num_copies"
Unfortunately my laptop deadlocks from time to time, and too often
it triggers this bug in btrfs which is quite hard to recover from.
The bigger problem is that all the user sees (if anything) is seemingly
unrelated info, namely, "RIP: btrfs_num_copies+0x42/0x0b" or somesuch

btrfs-zero-log (v 0.20-rc1) corrupted double linked list.
I asked the debian maintainer to add btrfs-zero-log to the initramfs since I
unfortunately have to use it from time to time.
It still fixes the problem for me when btrfs won''t mount, but it errors at
the end.

Recovering btrfs fs after "failed to read chunk root"
So I''m writing my (dis)adventure with btrfs here hoping to help the
developers or someone with similar problems.
I had a btrfs filesystem at work, using two 1TB disks, raid1 for both
data and metadata.
A week ago one of the two disks start having hundreds of relocated
sectors, so I decide to change it.
I remove the failing disk, mount with -o degraded and every works fine.
The day later

Trying to mount RAID1 degraded with removed disk -> open_ctree failed
Hi,
I have setup a RAID1 using 3 devices (500G each) on separate disks.
After removing one disk physically the filesystem cannot be mounted in
degraded nor in recovery mode. When putting the disk back in the
filesystem can be mounted without errors. I did a cold-swap (powercycle
after removal/insertion of the disk).
Here are the details:

Panic in 1.1.6 file ioloop.c: line 206
Hi all,
I just had a panic with dovecot 1.1.6, two days after replacing 1.0.15
with it in production.
Here are the logs immediately preceding the panic, I think they're
related. It seems the user connected simultaneously from two different
clients, from his own computer and a webmail running on the server, then
manipulated mail folders on one side, and logged out. The panic occurred

[PATCH 0 of 3 v2] PV-GRUB: add support for ext4 and btrfs
Hi,
The following patches add support for ext4 and btrfs to
PV-GRUB. These patches are taken nearly verbatim from those provided
by Fedora and Gentoo.
We''ve been using these patches for the PV-GRUB images available in EC2
for some time now with no problems.
Changes from v1:
- Makefile has been changed to check the exit code from patch
- The btrfs patch has been rebased to apply

btrfs balance resume + raid5/6
Greetings!
I''m testing raid6, and recently added two drives.
I haven''t been able to properly resume a balance operation: the number of
total chunks is always too low.
It seems that the balance starts and pauses properly, but always resumes
with ~7 chunks.
Here''s an example:

raid10 data fs full after degraded mount
Hello,
on a fs with 4 disks, raid 10 for data, one drive was failing and has
been removed. After reboot and ''mount -o degraded...'', the fs looks
full, even though before removal of the failed device it was almost
80% free.

Recently,

btrfs balancing start - and stop?
Hi,
My company is testing btrfs (kernel 2.6.38) on a slave MySQL database
server with a 195Gb filesystem (of which about 123Gb is used). So far,
we''re quite impressed with the performance. Our database loads are high,
and if filesystem performance wasn''t good, MySQL replication wouldn''t
be able to keep up and the slave latency would begin to climb. This

btrfs kernel threads producing high load and slow system down
Hello,
I habe the problems described in here
https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Gotchas:
Files with a lot of random writes can become heavily fragmented
(10000+ extents) causing trashing on HDDs and excessive multi-second
spikes of CPU load on systems with an SSD or large amount a RAM.
On servers and workstations this affects databases and virtual machine images.

kernel 3.3.4 damages filesystem (?)
Hallo,
"never change a running system" ...
For some months I run btrfs unter kernel 3.2.5 and 3.2.9, without
problems.
Yesterday I compiled kernel 3.3.4, and this morning I started the
machine with this kernel. There may be some ugly problems.
Copying something into the btrfs "directory" worked well for some files,
and then I got error messages (I''ve not

I have now written a simple directx8 3d program that works under windows
but i am getting these wierd errors under wine.
this is the output from wine -debugmsg +module pro666 I think it is a
problem with the two libraries d3d8.lib and d3dx8.lib as I can see errors
there. Also I notice that these are the two libraries

ZFS vs. Apple XRaid
Hello all,
After setting up a Solaris 10 machine with ZFS as the new NFS server,
I''m stumped by some serious performance problems. Here are the
(admittedly long) details (also noted at
http://www.netmeister.org/blog/):
The machine in question is a dual-amd64 box with 2GB RAM and two
broadcom gigabit NICs. The OS is Solaris 10 6/06 and the filesystem
consists of a single zpool stripe

wrong values in "df" and "btrfs filesystem df"
Hallo, linux-btrfs,
First I create an array of 2 disks with
mkfs.btrfs -d raid0 -m raid1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdd1
and mount it at /srv/MM.
Then I fill it with about 1,6 TByte.
And then I add /dev/sde1 via
btrfs device add /dev/sde1 /srv/MM
btrfs filesystem balance /srv/MM
(it run about 20 hours)
Then I work on it, copy some new files, delete some old files - all
works well. Only
