reverse name resolving of winbind 3.4.x
Hi all,
I did upgrade from samba 3.0.28 to 3.4.1 on a domain member server. Now it seems there is a problem with reverse name
resolving of winbind.
The tools "ls" and "getfacl" shows UIDs instead of the usernames. When I run id "<username>" the username and the UID
are shown correctly. After using "id" the name is also listed fine in the output of

ACL problem with Samba > 3.4.x on GPFS
When a file is created with samba 3.5.x or 3.6.x, it is created effective read-only:

The ACL-settings for the parent directory are ok:

rsync 3.0.9 hangs when syncing from NFSv3 share - possible to retry after timeout?
Hello,
I'm using rsync 3.0.9 to backup several NFS shares from a fileserver, mounted over NFSv3, to a local RAID on a backup server. Both servers are running Ubuntu 12.04 server LTS. The fileserver's filesystem is ext4. The NFS shares are mounted on the backup server as follows:
fileserver:/mnt/storage/share1 /mnt/share1 type nfs (ro,tcp,bg,soft,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

Incorrect client netbios name in %m
I have a client (Fedora 19) and a server (Fedora 14/Samba 3.5.11) which
works fine.
I'm now setting up a new server (Fedora 20/Samba 4.1.3) with more or less
the same smb.conf
1. Issuing:
sudo smbclient -L //srv001 -U suser
list all shares correct.
2. Issuing:
sudo mount -t cifs //srv/Share3 /mnt/share3/ -o username=suser
Password for suser@//srv/Share3: ****

problems with VFS_FAKE_PERMS
Hi,
I want to use the module VFS_FAKE_PERMS for roaming profiles. When I use the option "writeable = yes" (see config [1]) the user profiles are write
back the server (but they shouldn't, right?).
If I delete the writeable-option (see [2]) windows brings an error when logging off:
"Windows cannot update your roaming profile. Possible causes of this error include network

Problem while log on: Windows Server 2008 R2 in samba domain
Hi,
I have a strange problem with a Windows Server 2008 R2-System as a member of a samba domain (Samba-Version on PDC: 3.4.12).
Join was successfully, but when I log on Windows I got an error "Unknown user name or bad password." (Event ID 4625).
Here an abstract of logfile for Windows Server 2008 R2-System (log level 10). Maybe some of you has an idea:

Errors for shares since 4.12.0
Hi,
I tried samba 4.12.0 on our file server which is a domain member and
exporting some shares. We're getting some strange errors on some shares
since the update.
Right after starting or restarting smbd everything is fine. After short
while (seconds or a few minutes) users are getting errors when trying to
access the shares, e.q. "Invalid Handle Error", "An unexpected

template homedir and idmap_ad
Some empirical testing shows that if I am using the idmap_ad module the
template homedir parameter in smb.conf is ignored. I would just like to
determine if this is the correct behaviour or if I am doing something wrong.

SAMBA bringing NFS server to a halt
Hello,
We have a Red Hat 5.3 SAMBA 3.0.33-3.7 Server that shares a few directories to 4 other servers.
The other servers are Red Hat 5.3 and one Solaris 10 server.
I configured SAMBA to do the following for each share;
Force User: User1
Force Group: Group1
Create Mask: 02770
Security Mask: 02770
Directory Mask: 02770
Directory Security Mask: 02770
Inherit Permissions: Yes
Inherit ACLS: Yes

Like Netware share ??
Most of you will probably think about this "It's not a real problem". But not my boss. I want to
exchange our Netware server with a linux/SMABA one but my boss wants to have on the new server
exactly the same directories structure like in the Netware server. And here it is what I couldn't
done : user X wich have two secondary groups Y and Z must browse in Win95 _only_ the Y and

Solaris 11 ZFS - acl_xattr still needed ?
Dear list,
Setup is: Solaris 11 ZFS + Samba 3.5.10
What is the recommended way nowadays of performing strict permissions
mapping between Samba and Windows NT 6.1 ?
And a more broader question: is it desirable ?
As we know ZFS has native NFSv4 ACL's and this would mean that permissions
applied on Windows side should have an exact match
on the ZFS side.
Is it acl_xattr module still needed ?

Security = ADS and uidnumbers
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a samba (3.6.6, debian wheezy 64bit) member server on
a 2008R2 domain. I'd like to be able to specify the uidnumbers users get on
here in AD but I'm getting really erratic results.
I've tried changing various range options, and as far as I can tell it
works sometimes, but not others - don't know why.
I have 2 users I've specifically set up,

3.5.5, ADS mode, user authentication syntax
All,
I'm in the process of migrating a samba server from Solaris 10 (running 3.0.37) to Solaris 11 Express (running 3.5.5).
The system is joined to a Win2k3 Active Directory. Migrating the configuration worked fine, the shares are available and everything mostly works as intended.
The problem we're having is with the syntax of authentication requests from Windows client machines. On the

Active Directory + Samba 3.0.10 -> how to deal with owners and permissions
Hi.
I've a running samba system that works with a ADS auth. All looks like to
work. I can get the list of Domain users and groups (wbinfo -u, wbinfo
-g), and "getent passwd" works too.
Now I want to share a directory(or volume) and that the
DOMAIN/Administrator be the owner of this share to get the control of it.
I don't know how samba deals with resource owners and
