Anaconda crashing on new machine
Hi! I'm building up a new computer and this evening have had several events during installation in which Anaconda has crashed. It's not clear that there is a lot of commonality between the different crashes. the first time I got all the way through package selection (selecting at the individual package level) before it crashed. the second time I made a mistake in partitioning and did

upgrading 32-bit installation to 64-bit
Hi! I've got a 32-bit Centos installed on an AMD Phenom II X2 processor and I'm interested ni making it 64 bit instead. But I'd sure like to avoid having to go back thru the whole installation again... in part because I've got sotware RAID set up and I'm assuming that I can't do a fresh install into it without having to re-configure the whole thing. So, is it possible

The volume control might be controlling the volume on an unused output. Well, I don't think so... there are only two choices there, Headphones and Line Out.

Sword Project for centos 5
Hi! Anyone know of RPMS for the Sword Project (and Bibletime and/or GnomeSword) for Centos5/RHEL5? Latest RPMS I've found have a ton of dependencies, some of which are older than packages I've already got. mounting CDROM without mapaping UC to LC
Hi! this is surely a newbie question, so I should know the answer, but I'm fighting with mounting a CD such that filenames are NOT mapped to lowercase (I need to use its on-board tools for accessing files on it while mounted on Centos 6.5, and those tools assume uppercawse, since they assume the entire world runs Windoze.) but despite my best efforts, it keeps being mounted with UC-LC

Checksum errors on and after resilver
Hi all, I recently experienced a disk failure on my home server and observed checksum errors while resilvering the pool and on the first scrub after the resilver had completed. Now everything seems fine but I''m posting this to get help with calming my nerves and detect any possible future faults. Lets start with some specs. lmsensors sensors.conf file for gigabyte GA7N400 Pro2
Having done my fresh 5.0 install a couple months ago I'm slowly getting things back in to working condition. Decided last night to try setting up lmsensors. Got it all set up (modules, etc taken care of) and it runs and reports values, but some of 'em a clearly wrong with the default sensors.conf Trying to use the old sensors.conf I used on Centos 4 produces even more whacked-out results,

I've rebuilt libmateweather for EL7 with the aforementioned patch and it seems to have fixed the issue. printing from W98 to Samba/Cups
Hi Gang! I've recently set up a TAO Linux box, which has SAmba 3.0.2 and Cups 1.1.17. I have a Lexmark Optra Color 40 Postscript inkjet printer directly attached to the parallel port, and working. After considerable pain I was able to get XP Home to print to that printer (using the 15 step method, as the simple method kept refusing to work). Now I'm trying to get Windoze 98 to print to

off-topic question about RDP to Win-10
I have a win10 VM in virtualbox on my Linux (C7) desktop. I CAN connect to it with rdesktop 1.8.3 (now rather old, but it's the latest release), but cannot connect with remmina or krdc. Both of them just hang for a while then say they can't connect. Curiously, they all will connect to the win10 box in my office. They don't show any other useful information, and I don't know where

Mplayer and VDPAU
Does anyone here know if the mplayer from rpmfusion (mplayer-1.0-0.41.svn20090711.el5.rf) was compiled with VDPAU support? I've looked on the mplayer web site and it says you can use vdpau, but it doesn't say HOW. Would that be with something like "-vo vdpau" ?? X11 problem with remote login via SSH
HI all! Strange problem that began occurring in last few weeks. Centos 5.4, up to date. I sometimes log in remotely via ssh using "ssh -X" and read mail via mutt. Now and then I want to use balsa instead. This has always worked (for years) though it's kinda slow... but in the last few weeks it has begun failing and spewing errors like this, repeatedly, apparently forever until I

Can someone help with SpamBayes problem?
I've posted to the SpamBayes users list, but there seems to be no traffic there, so I've had no replies. If there is anyone here using SpamBayes, I'd appreciate some advice or at least suggestions.... I'm running Centos 5.8 here. Day before yesterday I decided to look and see if there was a newer SpamBayes than I was then using. lo and behold, there was. I was using 1.1a4, and

system hardware discovery
Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone can advise me on how (or even if) I can trigger some of the install-time hardware discovery, specifically to rediscover the sound hardware on my motherboard. I moved a C6 installation to a new (and diffrent) motherboard several months ago. While most things went without issue, and while sound works, I have to manually change sound settings to enable the
