Generating QFs from same sample
Dear All
I am kind of stuck up with a code a part of which seems to be causing a
problem, or at least I think so. May be the community can help me. It’s
simple but I suppose I am missing something.
I generate a data matrix X, say of order n*p, where n represents
independent row-vectors and p correlated col vectors. Let the row
representation be X = (X’_1, . . ., X’_n)’. I generate the

optim problem, nls regression
Hi,
I try to fit a non linear regression by minimising the sum of the sum of
squares.
The model is number[2]-(x/number[1])^number[3]
Number [2] and number [1] change as the data changes but for all the set of
data number[3] must be identical.
I have 3 set of data (x1,y1), (x2,y2), (x3,y3).
x_a<-c(0,0.5,1,1.5,2,3,4,6)
y_a<-c(5.4,5,4.84,4.3,4,2,1.56,1.3)

Smoothing a persp graph
Hi,
I'm unable to find a way to smooth data for a persp() graph.
Example, suppose that I have data x,y,z like this:
x <- 1:10
y <- 1:10
k <- 20
z <- outer(x, y, "*") + matrix( k*runif(100, -1, 1), 10, 10)
persp(x, y, z, theta = 35, phi = 25)
The graph is not very nice. Is there a way to smooth the z data so that at the end the graph would look more like something

help with 3-D plot of kernel density estimates
Hi,
I guess I have a naive question. I use kde2d function in a standard way to
estimate kernel densities of x and y (x and y are vectors) and plot them
using image().
f1=kde2d(x,y)
image(f1)
But what if I want to see kernel estimates of three variables, x, y and z (a
vector) plotted together ? Something in which x<->y is plotted and colored
according to the corresponding value of z ?

Layering multiple persp plots
Hi all,
I've got two persp plots with Identical X and Y's, and I'd like to plot them
on the same graph, so that it is obvious where one plot is above the other.
I can't find any mention of this anywhere. Do I need to use wireframe?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Plotting Prediction Surface with persp()
Hi all
I have a question about correct usage of persp(). I have a simple neural
net-based XOR example, as follows:
library(nnet)
xor.data <- data.frame(cbind(expand.grid(c(0,1),c(0,1)), c(0,1,1,0)))
names(xor.data) <- c("x","y","o")
xor.nn <- nnet(o ~ x + y, data=xor.data, linout=FALSE, size=1)
# Create an (x.y) surface and predict over all points

Re : how to plot select points in preexisting persp plot
Hello,
I am trying to plot selected data points to a preexisting persp plot
that satisfies a condition. I used the following statement -
text(coords[,1], coords[,2], names(act[which(act > 8.75)]), cex=0.7)
But I get all the points labeled, instead of the points that satisfy
the condition specified. Is there any way to plot only the points I
want? Also can this be done using

number of ticks in a persp() plot
Hi, I am trying to specify four ticks (at 0,1,2,3 for the y axis) in a persp
plot but the defaults overrule my specification and I obtain seven of them.
Is it possible to gain full control over them in such a plot? Here is my
code:
matlines=matrix(c(1:7,3:9,3:9,2:8),nrow=7,ncol=4)

graphics:persp - suggestion
Dear Devels,
I'm not sure if I'm going the right way by mailing to this list. I have two
suggestions regarding the persp function from the graphics package:
1. In the documentation of the persp function, it is said, that the "col"
argument will ignore transparent colors. However, this is not true, if you
use strings as color code - at least it works with HEX-code (eg. :

"Over-coloring" facets on persp() plot
Dear R Community:
Recently, I have managed to plot some really useful graphs of my
research data using persp(). I have even figured out how to overplot
rectangular regions (corresponding to submatrices) with a different
color. This is accomplished by using par(new=T). I am now searching
for a way to "highlight" a set of (possibly non-contiguous) facets with
a specific color,

3d plotting alternatives. I like persp, but regret the lack of plotmath.
I have been making simple functions to display regressions in a new
package called "rockchalk". For 3d illustrations, my functions use
persp, and I've grown to like working with it. As an example of the
kind of things I like to do, you might consult my lecture on
multicollinearity, which is by far the most detailed illustration I've
prepared.

persp plot + plotting grid lines
Dear all;
Does anyone know how to add grid lines to a persp plot? I've tried
using lines(trans3d..) but the lines of course are superimposed into
the actual 3d surface and what I need is something like the plot shown
in the following link:

I'll appreciate any ideas
Thanks

complicated graphic -- persp+map
Hello
I'm trying to render in 3D what I usually plot by image(), or image.plot()
from the library fields, followed by a map("world",add=TRUE) type of
command. More concretely, I have a field of temperature values, for a given
geographic area, and I would like to plot a 3D surface whose x and y axes
consist of longitude and latitude values and whose height and color-coding

two perspective plots in in plot
Dear all,
I would like to put two perspective plots into one plot. The help page
for ?persp shows how one can add points and lines but not another
perspective plot.

x <- 10 * (1:nrow(z)) # 10 meter spacing (S to N)

two plots side-by-side with persp3d(rgl)
Dear R-users,
I would like to place two 3D plots side-by-side in a rgl-setting. It would nice to have something like "par(mfrow=c(1,2))" for basic plots, or an array framework for wireframe(lattice) (see example below). I only managed to overlap two persp3d plots.
My final idea would be to animate both surfaces using play3d(rgl).
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best,

persp(): add second plane
Dear R-users,
is it possible to add a second plane to the persp()-plot? I couldn't find
any hint on that in the news archive...
I'm using R.1.4.1 for Windows.
Thanks in advance,
Nina

2d Joint Density Plot
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to R, so I'm still trying to feel out what is available to
me. I would like to be able to plot joint density in a two dimensional plot
where density is indicated by color or darkness gradients, like a 2d color
coded topographic map. Ideally, the output would be something I could then
plot other points or lines on.
Currently, I'm calculating joint density with

3D-plotting a 2D-matrix that contains z-values (3rd dimension)
Hello,
say I have a 2D-matrix (indexed by x and y), which contains
z values, which I want to plot over x-y.
Either dotted, or if possible as a landscape.
I tried around with persp and plot3d (from rgl)
and persp3d (from rgl).
I sometimes get something that looks good and a while later, when
trying some new data I need to worry about that again.
Is there something lika a convenience function

persp(): add second plane (second, long question)
Thank you for your replies so far.
Sorry for bothering you again, but I'm still not able to get what I need as
I don't understand all parts of the replies (just using R for easy
things....).
Is there a code for plane3d() like some of you sent me for points3d()? I was
not able to get that out of the scatterplot3d package...
What I can do is to get the x,y and z-range for the xlim, ylim and
