FreeBSD + winbindd + PAM
I've been trying for a couple of weeks to get FreeBSD + winbindd + PAM working, without success. I'm hoping that someone here has bumped into my problem before and has some advice to give. My current setup is winbindd from Samba 2.8.8a on both FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE and 5.1-BETA. I've configured Samba with the following options: syslog, nocups, utmp, msdfs, quota, recycle, audit,

Crashing Suse 9.2 box - Samba prime suspect
I'm running Suse 9.2, up to date via Yast, samba 3.0.9-2.3, openssh 3.9p1-3.2. I had two hard crashes on my Suse 9.2 server in the last four days since I mounted two Windows server shares to the Linux box. Prior to that, machine has been stable for several months. Primary use is cvs server with ssh tunnelling pserver from PuTTY. Crash 1: I connected in from home using WSFTP Pro 9.01 in

Base pam_krb5 on recent -STABLE and credential cache storage
Hello, Prequalify: I'm quite a novice w/ Kerberos, so my terminology and assumptions may be rough. Also, please CC me since I'm not a list subscriber. I'm running a fairly recent -STABLE [1] and have installed the base Heimdal Kerberos implementation via the MAKE_KERBEROS5 knob in /etc/make.conf. I'm having the problem that I don't see a cached credential file being created

Choice of FTP server
I have taken over a number of RH/FC/CentOS servers recently. I am trying to upgrade all of them to CentOS 4.3 and configure them to only use software that can be managed via yum/apt repositories. One of the choices made by my predecessor was the pure-ftpd server over vsftpd. I cannot find a repo to get this rpm from and am wondering if anyone on the list has any practical experience with both and

PAM_WINBIND problem with sambaPwdMustChange
Hi People! I use pam_winbind for authentication in my computer workstation using Debian Lenny 5.0, Stable Version. I configure my user with this option "sambaPwdMustChange: 0", and I logon in GDM without asking to change password. Who knows what can be? I use Samba PDC with Heimdal Kerberos, but, I configure PAM with only pam_winbind for tests... Client versions: ii

pam_radius fail open?
Okay, I guess I?ll be the first to take Colin Percival up in that the following statement applies to me: ?If you find a security problem -- or even if you find something which might possibly be a security problem but you're not certain if it is or not -- then please let us know.? I recently installed pam_radius according to the instructions located at the following address:

strange system outage
I have a CentOS 7 system that I run a home grown python daemon on. I run this same daemon on many other systems without any incident. On this one system the daemon seems to die or be killed every day around 3:30am. There is nothing it its log or any system logs that tell me why it dies. However in /var/log/messages every day I see something like this: May 10 03:35:58 localhost pure-ftpd: (tool at

xmalloc symbol in libssh
Hi list, (Please Cc: me in your replies because I'm not subscribed to this list.) While trying to build lukemftpd staticaly on FreeBSD, I got a link-time error. Libssh.a indeed provides the "xmalloc" symbol (I suppose there are more). I wonder if this is whether intentional or not. It is a very common function name, and I think it would be worth renaming it to something like

Samba and private shares
I'm running samba 2.5 on a FreeBSD box using winbind to do authentication with my PDC/BDC. I'm able to configure shares that everyone on the NT network can access but when I configure private shares (only 1 or 2 users have access to) the users get prompted for a username and password and are not allowed access. What am I doing wrong? Below I have included a copy of my smb.conf and pam.conf
