Question about adding DNS records
Hello all, I managed to install an extra DC. The first DC is comsrv01a with ip 192.168.0.200. I run Samba 4.1.9 and BIND 9.8.1-P1. The new DC is srv01ham with ip 172.16.32.222. I use the internal DNS. I run Samba 4.1.9. I use a permanent LAN-2-LAN VPN via my Draytek routers. The first DC (comsrv01a, 192.168.0.200) is my primary DNS server. This is configured in all my routers and DHCP servers.

BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ | Error parsing DNS data from '/opt/samba/private/dns/th01.inet.zone' ()
Hi all, I got some issues with adding DNS records. I still use BIND9_FLATFILE on my first DC. Maybe this is the problem? What I would like to try is to change from BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ. I change the backend from BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ twice (in the past or other servers) but I don't remember how I did this anymore! What I did try is the following... and that didn't work. I

You can join a Windows Server to a Samba4 Domain controller and set up the WSUS server role and it should work. HOWEVER, if you are going to point all your devices at the WSUS server, you will require CALs for the devices or the users using them to maintain licensing compliance with Microsoft. At this point, you have paid for the number of Windows Server CALs you need to run actual Active

windows upgrade
I think you are talking about making it act like WSUS or RIS role. This is not possible (but would be cool). My Documents Folder Redirection to Samba Share
Does anyone know how to setup the smb.conf file for the my document folder redirection in windows. If I point it to a root share, with a Microsoft file server, it will automatically create a folder for each user with a my documents folder under that. How can I get that to happen with a samba share. Using Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 and fairly new to samba. The default smb.conf makes mention

Squid question
I'm having issues getting squid to send traffic through a specific upstream gateway. I need for a MS WSUS server and a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to get through a squid proxy to get out to Microsoft and Symantec respectively to get MS patches and Symantec DAT files. The traffic needs to go through the squid proxy, through a firewall, and through an upstream McAfee gateway

Samba4 oplocks: LibreOffice and Word file locking
Hi Lan with S4 and built-in file server for Windows clients. nfs for Linux clients. We are using LibreOffice to share documents and file locking works fine. The first guy to open the doc gets the lock and a message is displayed on other clients (windows or Linux) that the file is open. Fine Some users must however use Word 2010 to edit documents. Then file locking doesn't work: anyone

creating NTConfig.POL
I have an NTConfig.POL I created from poledit with the Windows 2000 Administrator toolkit. It contains my WSUS configuration, and NTConfig.POL is placed in my [netlogon] share and is being loaded fine by the clients. Is this still the propery way to create NTConfig.POL files, or is there a newer utility I should be using? I'm looking at Vista and it uses .admx templates, which I guess

Spacewalk? Local repo? Cache?
I have a mix of CentOS 5, 6, and now 7 servers at work. There are enough of them now that it is starting to make sense for them to get updates from an internal source. I've seen RHN Satellite in years past. It looks like it may be a way to allow Windows admins here (familiar with WSUS) to update Linux boxes. A local repo might be easier to set up, but (as with Spacewalk) it seems like
