Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be mapping to guest). SMB.conf is below

rejected our name registration of WORKGROUP<1d> with error code 6
Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the howto: http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they do not see the samba server in nethood, though

Exclude from not excluding "My Music" or "Printhood"
We have been using rsync for some time with Linux and FreeBSD, but are just now trying to make it work with Windows. Not as easy as we hoped. I am running the cwrsync client 3.0.6 on a new Windows 7 machine to a FreeBSD 8.1 server. I have an exclude-from filelist, which does seem to successfully exclude the directories given by many of its entries, including these two lines: Documents/My[

WINBIND: UID and GID false mappings on domain member
Hi @ALL Trying to migrate to Samba AD after 12 lucky years with samba NT-domain + server profiles and homes in a small research institute. I decided to provision a new domain and create the users and groups using samba-tool with most of its parameters. I decided against classicupgrade, because I didn't get all posix attributes automatically set and I cannot do LDAP kung-fu. Intention is to

--include-from doesn't include
I'm trying to backup certain pieces of my XP workstations home directory to a mapped drive using rsync on Cygwin. I was able to create a fairly useful exclude-from list, but I'm unable to re-include portions a subset of an excluded directory. My rsync command looks like this: rsync -avn --delete --stats ~/ \ /cygdrive/i/HRMS/rdavies/backup/home \

[4.2.14-Debian] Smbd not listening on 192.168.0.x on cold start
So it looks like the init script in the Samba package in the Debian repository needs to be edited for a non-DC home server. -- View this message in context: http://samba.2283325.n4.nabble.com/4-2-14-Debian-Smbd-not-listening-on-192-168-0-x-on-cold-start-tp4720131p4720160.html Sent from the Samba - General mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

WINS server not appearing in Nethood
Hi folks, I've had a setup working for quite some time and everything's fine except that the server that hosts the WINS never appears in the network neighbourhood, and when trying to connect to that server there is a small delay. As few people need to browse to it, the problem's had a low priority as the WINS side of it is working fine, and the rest of the nethood is also working

Upgraded > Samba no longer listening on 192.168.0.x
Hello Since I last ran "apt-get upgrade" on a Debian host which upgraded Debian to 8.8 and Samba to 4.2.14, Samba is no longer listening on the 192.168.0.x network after waking up from suspend mode. As a result, it's not listed in Windows' Network Neighborhood and, thus, not reachable from a Windows host where a backup job is running that uses the Debian host as a file server.

not in network neighbourhood
Hi, I setup samba according to the Howto and I'm not sure but I can't find my samba box in netowrk neighbourhood. If I run \\(samba IP address) I get it fine. It just doesn't show up in the nethood. Any ideas? BTW, I'm using win95 and linux RH6.1 ====================================== Dave Comeau -- Network Administrator Save the Rainforests, Eat vegetarians

SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message... Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so perhaps it should be updated? I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :) REPORTING-BUGS format answers, let

Accessing Windows file-system from Linux samba server
I don't understand Windows permissions under Samba. I am running an smb server under CentOS-5.4, and have a Windows XP Pro machine ("harriet") as a client. I have set up shares C and D on harriet corresponding to the 2 drives C: and D: on the machine, and I have asked that files should be shared.
