[PATCH] speed up snapshot dropping
This patch contains two changes to avoid unnecessary tree block reads during snapshot dropping. First, check tree block''s reference count and flags before reading the tree block. if reference count > 1 and there is no need to update backrefs, we can avoid reading the tree block. Second, save when snapshot was created in root_key.offset. we can compare block pointer''s

[RFC PATCH V2] Btrfs: introduce extent buffer cache for each i-node
This patch introduce extent buffer cache for every i-node. By this way, we can save the search time and reduce the lock contention of the root because we needn''t search the item from the root of b+ tree. Implementation: - add two pointers of extent buffer into btrfs_inode struct, one for nodes/leaves of fs/file tree, the other for nodes/leaves of the log tree. - add a variant to tell

[PATCH 1/2] btrfs: document where we use BUG_ON instead of error handling
Document those places in the btrfs code which are BUGing on non-fatal error conditions that should be handled by proper error paths. This makes it easier to distinguish between what needs fixing versus which BUG_ON''s we might want to keep (to trap code bugs, unexpected inconsistencies, etc). Do this with a trivial macro, ''btrfs_fixable_bug_on'' which just defines to

[PATCH V2 1/2] Btrfs: fix error path in create_pending_snapshot()
This patch fixes the following problem: - If we failed to deal with the delayed dir items, we should abort transaction, just as its comment said. Fix it. - If root reference or root back reference insertion failed, we should abort transaction. Fix it. - Do not restore the trans->rsv if we doesn''t change it. - make the error path more clearly. [PATCH] Btrfs: remove almost all of the BUG()'s from tree-log.c
There were a whole bunch and I was doing it for other things. I haven''t tested these error paths but at the very least this is better than panicing. I''ve only left 2 BUG_ON()''s since they are logic errors and I want to replace them with a ASSERT framework that we can compile out for production users. [PATCH] Btrfs: make some functions return void
The type of some functions that return only 0 is changed to ''void''. In addition, the check on the return value in the caller of these functions becomes unnecessary. So, these check is removed. btrfs_tree_lock & trylock
I did some btrfs RTFS over the weeking and I have a hard time understanding what this code is attempting to do: 28 int btrfs_tree_lock(struct extent_buffer *eb) 29 { 30 int i; 31 32 if (mutex_trylock(&eb->mutex)) 33 return 0; 34 for (i = 0; i < 512; i++) { 35 cpu_relax(); 36 if

[PATCH 1/2] btrfs-progs: mixed back ref support
This patch adds mixed back ref support for btrfs programs. The mixed back ref is a new disk format. back compatilibity is still not implemented. To try the new disk format, you need fresh formatted btrfs. Deadlock in btrfs-cleaner, related to snapshot deletion
Hello, (this is a recap of yesterday''s discussion on BTRFS IRC, also to save relevant pastes before pastebins expire) I have my /home on btrfs; a cronjob makes one snapshot every 30 minutes; these snapshots are kept for 24-48 hours, then deleted in batches. This is a 16K Leaf/Node BTRFS on top of mdadm RAID1. As system uptime approached 2 weeks, I started noticing that the free space

[RFC PATCH] Decrease Metadata Fragment Using A Caterpillar Band Method
I made an attempt to partly decrease fragment by using a preallocated area of multiple size of a std blocksize for a tree block when it is COWed. The basic idea is that if any a tree block need to be created, we offer, say, 2 or 4 multiples of a std blocksize for it, then use the first block in the continuous blocks. When this block need a cow in the future, a new free block in these continuous

[patch 00/65] Error handling patchset v3
Hi all - Here''s my current error handling patchset, against 3.1-rc8. Almost all of this patchset is preparing for actual error handling. Before we start in on that work, I''m trying to reduce the surface we need to worry about. It turns out that there is a ton of code that returns an error code but never actually reports an error. The patchset has grown to 65 patches. 46 of them

BTRFS partition won't mount
Hello all, I recently had a power failure and can no longer mount my /home directory. The harddrive has two BTRFS partitions: sda7(/) and sda8(/home). The / partition loads up just fine, but /home does not. I''ve tried btrfsck as shown below and I''ve included dmesg pertaining to btrfs. This is on ArchLinux and the software versions are as follows: btrfs-progs-unstable

[PATCH] Btrfs: fix deadlock in uuid scan kthread
If there''s an ongoing transaction when the uuid scan kthread attempts to create one, the kthread will block, waiting for that transaction to finish while it''s keeping locks on the tree root, and in turn the existing transaction is waiting for those locks to be free. The stack trace reported by the kernel follows. [36700.671601] INFO: task btrfs-uuid:15480 blocked for more than
