Fwd: tinc questions
Hi, I have some questions about tinc. " *Automatic full mesh routing*Regardless of how you set up the tinc daemons to connect to each other, VPN traffic is always (if possible) sent directly to the destination, without going through intermediate hops. " 1- To have client to client direct connection and don't have traffic through the server should I have port forward at the NAT? Or

bridging tinc router mode network and switch mode network
I am running tinc v. 1.1pre (truly as I read somewhere, ?one of the internet?s best kept secrets?) on some consumer home routers flashed with tomato firmware. I have a whole network of these, but for the purposes of this question I will focus on just three Router A (subnet 192.168.5.0/24) is connected via a standard tinc ?router? mode network with Router B (subnet 192.168.15.0/24). Router B, in

two tinc hosts behind same NAT
Dear all, I have 3 nodes: A, B and C. C has external IP and A and B are behind NAT. It turns out A and B route their traffic via the C, which they ConnectTo with; this instead of getting connection details from one another and contacting eachother directly (mesh style). The reason is, as I conclude from tincd debug output, is that they see the peer as having a minimum MTU of 0. I suspect this is

Tinc + Tomato (firmware)
I've been running Tinc on my routers for several years. I thought I'd do an integration of tinc with gui in Tomato firmware because I find it useful. It's been working well for me, but I'm sure there's there's a bug or two, or something I've overlooked. Let me know of anything and I'll correct it in a future release. I created a tutorial for Tomato users here.

Tinc and OpenWRT
Greetings. I'm new to tinc, but have so far managed to get a couple laptops and a hosted server all connected. They're working as expected, running Tinc 1.1-pre11, which I compiled from source. Next I want to move on to adding my home router into the mix. My routers run OpenWRT. I don't have experience compiling anything from source for OpenWRT, but OpenWRT has Tinc 1.0.25

tinc as layer 2 switch doesn't automatically mesh with other nodes
We have a handful of nodes set up. Some are NAT'd but a few have direct access to the Internet. Sample confs: HostA: Name = HostA AddressFamily = any Interface = tap0 Mode = switch Connectto = HostB GraphDumpFile = /tmp/mesh HostB: Name = HostB AddressFamily = any Interface = tap0 Mode = switch Connectto = HostA GraphDumpFile = /tmp/mesh And so on. If I use HostA as the main meta sever.

How to route between tinc and physical interface.
Hello everyone. First of all, i congratulate tinc and its community for such reliable tool it is. I am working on a community wireless project where we have an isolated mesh network that we want to link by VPN. In order to fulfill this requirement we setup a tinc VPN, with two "nodes", servera and serverb. Servera has ip 10.0.0.1/24 and serverb has 10.0.0.2/24, and a spare network

Node behind SonicWall Router
Recently the small business I work at replaced an aging linksys wrt style router with a SonicWall one. Ever since this change I have issues with this node falling back to TCP constantly. TCP for me ends up performing very sub-par, and most of the time unworkable. For some reason too the connection usually ends up being routed through another node. I created a new tinc instance using TAP

Any way to run tinc on MikroTik routers?
Hello, Please excuse my (probably newbie) question, but: Since RouterOS, MikroTik's proprietary OS, is largely based on GNU/Linux, anyone knows a way to run tinc on a MikroTik device? This would be in order to make an (imposed, no choice given...) MikroTik device (say the B1100AHX4 router) to participate in a tinc mesh, in interoperation with GNU/Linux machines. Please see:

tinc and wireless mesh
Hello! I'm trying to make a wireless mesh network with b.a.t.m.a.n. protocol, and I would like to secure the wireless links with tinc. My test network is 2 wireless routers with OpenWRT Kamikaze firmware, and the network topology is the following: |CLIENT|eth0: 192.168.180| <--> |eth0: 192.168.1.1|MESH-NODE|ath0: 192.168.5.54| <~~> |ath0: 192.168.5.51|GW|eth1: 192.168.1.51|

Understanding tinc edge connections and re-routing
Hi, I have successfully setup a tinc network between five hosts (in switch mode). Two of the hosts have static and known IP addresses (S1 and S2). Other hosts (H3-H5) connect one (or both) of them. The traffic flows nicely between all hosts. The initial edges (ConnectTo configuration directives) in my test network are: S1<->S2 H3 -> S1 and S2 H4 -> S1 H5 -> S2 As far as I have

random problems with Forwarding=off
Hi , I've added one node to my tinc mesh , with forwarding off , and the network got splitted into several pieces !!, the thing is that , the node with forwarding off is connected to all hosts , directly with connect to , and seems like that for some nodes the shortest path , that the tinc network can find is through the node with forwarding off , here are the results of my first ping to all

Unauthorized ADD_SUBNET, but known subnet
Hi all, I'm using a tinc 1.0.19 (from Debian Squeeze) setup with some nodes connecting to a "server" node which has "StrictSubnets = yes". Whenever a new node is added to the mesh, a process generates and drops its host file in the server's host directory before the node is booted and tries to connect. For instance, I create a node "node_2" and a host file

a few problems/questions with tinc
Hi everyone , i have a few questions/problems with tinc , which i need to address ASAP , so i'll make it brief . i have 33 sites , connected with each other using wan , in each site , there are two linux firewalls + 3-4 more servers , i preferred to have a full mesh within my network , but unfortunately it was not possible , when i wanted every site to be connected to every other , as the
