Problem installing Stata - "no windows program configured"
Hello all, I need to use Stata to collaborate with some colleagues on a project. I use Linux Mint exclusively on my computers. Though Stata licenses are OS-independent, the university I'm at only supports Mac and Windows. Stata is available through a university-wide license for those operating systems. Unfortunately, they refuse to offer a download for Linux users. Since I don't want to

PBX to gate interface
Has anyone found a good wayt o do a gate intercom using Asterisk? I am looking at a Xorcom PBX with programmable contact, so I have no issue with opening the gate, but the interface at the gate is a bit tricky. I thought about a weather proof housing containing a phone but it seems a bit tacky. I also looked at a handsfree erather proof phone, but at $600 it is a bit steep. Any solutions that

Hi I am using Stata 10 and I need to import a data set in stata 10 to R, I have saved the dataset in lower versions of Stata as well by using saveold command in Stata. (no subject)
Dear R sages, I used the function rbind to combine a matrix (M) and a vector (Fert) to get a new matrix (A). This was fine. The issue is however, that the new matrix A has as its row names the name of the vector Fert, even though I set teh new vector A to have dimnames=NULL. See short code below fyi. *Fert<-c(0,1,5) * *M <- matrix(0, 2, 3) diag(M) <- c(0.3,0.5) * *A<-

using tcltk in R under ESS/XEmacs on Windows
Sorry for the cross-post. Not sure where the problem is... A while back I posted an R function to R-help: cd <- function (dir = tclvalue(tkchooseDirectory()), saveOld = FALSE, loadNew = TRUE) { stopifnot(require(tcltk)) if (saveOld) save.image(compress = TRUE) setwd(dir) rm(list = ls(all = TRUE, envir = .GlobalEnv), envir = .GlobalEnv) if (loadNew &&

More on global environment
To follow up on my previous question, suppose a user R session wants to unload one workspace and load another within an R session. Is the following the correct sequence? 1. save.image() to save the current workspace as .Rdata in the current working directory. 2. rm(list=ls()) to remove everything from the workspace. 3. setcwd("xxx") to set the new working directory. 4.

how to get the GUI directory chooser on Windows?
Dear R-help, Can anyone tell me if it's possible to call up the "directory chooser" (the one you get when you click on "File" -> "Change Dir...") in Rgui from the R command line? Seems like file.choose() can't be used to choose a directory. This is in R-1.8.1 on WinXPPro. Any help much appreciated! Andy

During the installation I do my './configure' but the 'make' command does not work. I'm using the Sun native make, full path /usr/xpg4/bin/make and we have a gcc compiler. I could really use some help trying to understand what the make com- mand is doing. (or not doing in my case) George ===================== George Caunt Systems Administrator Framingham Heart Study 73

Tip: Working directory in titlebar
I hope others may find this useful. I use R in many different directories. By adding the following line to the .Rprofile file: utils:::setWindowTitle(paste("-",getwd())) the titlebar of each R instance shows the directory from which it was started. I have tested this with rterm.exe and rgui.exe under Windows and with RECENT versions of R only. ----- For changing directories

"a binary read error occurred" in read.dta
I'm trying to read in a perfectly good Stata data file created using Stata 10 in Linux and saved in the version 8/9 format using "saveold". stata.get labels glm()
Dear R community, I would like to import data saved with Stata and then run a Probit model using R. My data comes from the World Values Surveys and in the Probit model I want to control for countries. So far I figured out that I should put "convert.factors = FALSE" when using stata.get() in order to import numeric values instead of label mappings, which is what I want for most of the

Functions in R like lincom and nlcom of Stata
Hello all, Does anyone know if there exists any function in R that resembles the "lincom" and "nlcom" of STATA?. These functions computes point estimates, standard errors, significance levels, confidence intervals, etc. for linear and non linear combinations of previous estimated parameters. Down here you've got links to descriptions of the functions of STATA nlcom:

SAS.xpt/STATA.dta, field descriptions, and dbWriteTable
Hello all, I have a large database (~100MB in 13 relational files) that made its way to me in two formats. The files were sent in both SAS xport and STATA, thanks, I am told, to stat-transfer. The two files, ostensibly, contain the same data, just in different formats. My goal: Move these files to MySQl without the help of SAS or STATA (which I do not have). The tools I am using are: 1.
