Serial console
I am trying to get a CentOS 6.3 serial console to work with IPMI SOL. I think I have everything working but maybe the wrong baud rate on the getty: $ ipmitool -I lanplus -U root -H 10.0.0.14 sol activate Password: [SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help] ?????????? 10.0.0.14 is the DRAC IP address of the CentOS 6.3 box. It accepts the password and connects me to the console but then when I

Minicom and Ncurses
Hi, I have to do some maintenance on a CentOS 7 proxy installed on a routerboard without a video card. The only way to access this machine directly is via Minicom and serial port. I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure network interfaces, but Ncurses rendering in Minicom works in the sense that chickens fly and horses swim. What you get is a forest of question marks with a few

Growing HW RAID arrays, Online
We add disks to an LSI raid array periodically to increase the amount of available space for business needs. It is understood that this process starts with metal, and has many layers that must each adjust to make use of the additional space. Each of these layers also says that it can do that 'online' without interruption or rebooting. But making it happen is not that easy. When the HW

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can

/dev/tty*: not a character device after reboot
Hello All I just recently adopted a server with Gentoo/Xen as domain0 server with several domainUs attached to it. Please forgive my xen-noobness, but I was hoping that someone can help me out. These images have not been updated in a long time, and I''m trying to get all the domainUs updated with their appropriate services patches, etc. I''m currently working on one Gentoo

Login Console on ttyUSB0
Kernel parameters aside (console=ttyUSB0 console=tty0), I am trying to get a login console working on a USB-to-serial adapter. systemctl enable serial-getty at ttyUSB0.service systemctl start serial-getty at ttyUSB0.service This works without issue on Debian 8. However when running the same on CentOS 7, my logs are filled with: May 16 12:44:58 localhost.localdomain systemd[1]: Starting Serial

Unitek iZi UPS 525
Hi everybody, I've got an Unitek iZi UPS 525 with a serial interface. The supplied cable looks fairly simple: RX->RX , TX->TX and GND->GND. Using this cable and Minicom with 2400 8N1 I'm able to issue commands to the UPS using the "Megatec Protocol" http://www.networkupstools.org/protocols/megatec.html so I know the UPS is fairly "intelligent" :-) and the

Opensuse 10.3 does not charge dom0
I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes. My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

MGE Ellipse 500 cable config
I have trouble in getting communication work with MGE Ellipse 500. I bought it second hand and I don't have the cable for it. How do I know if it's the Serial or USB model? The serial number of the unit is: 769B16015. I suspect it is the serial version as the label next to the RJ11 stands "com port", but I can't be 100% sure. MGE Ellipse serial cable pinout can be found

Asterisk 1.0.2 - Unable to allocate channel structure
Hi, This morning I had some failed calls. On the console (and in the log) I saw the error "Unable to allocate channel structure". Before I restarted the process, I checked it's memory usage in ps and glanced at my free memory in top. Asterisk was using a normal ammount of memory, about 40M. I don't think this was a system limit. This was running Asterisk v1.0.2. Below is

domU only booting with extra = ''xencons=tty1''
Hi, I''m using Debian 5 (lenny) with Xen 3.2-1. When I try to start a Linux guest (installed with debootstrap like this <http://www.option-c.com/xwiki/Create_a_Debian_VM_with_debootstrap>), the VM hangs right after starting crond. This is exactly before the login prompt (which doesn''t come up). 1) In the internet, the solution is an /extra/ line in the configuration

Serial console with pxelinux on Soekris net4501
Hello, I have a Soekris net4501, which I'm PXE booting using pxelinux. Everything seems to be working splendidly, except for the fact that I can't seem to make pxelinux understand use the net4501's serial console port correctly. The net4501 uses the serial console as its primary interface; I'm using a null modem cable and minicom to operate with it. At boot, its startup

Debugging the hypervisor
I am trying to debug the Xen hypervisor from a second computer over the serial port, but nothing seems to work. Using mercurial, I got xen-3.2-testing.hg. I followed the steps in crashdb.txt in the docs/misc/ folder: set debug=y in Config.mk, crash_debug=y in xen/Rules.mk I also added -fno-omit-frame-pointer to these file as well. I compiled with no errors and booted with minicom connected to

Clean serial console setup when using an USB to serial converter
Hello all, I'd like to connect to a CentOS 5.2 system's console through a null-modem cable. An USB to serial converter is connected to that system's USB port. When using this configuration statement in "/etc/inittab"... ... # Run gettys on serial line (that is, a serial line connected to USB0) usb0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L ttyUSB0 9600 vt100 ... ...I get these
