Backing up tdb files
I am trying to determine which tdb files must be backed up in order to perform a proper system restore. I am running Centos's samba-4.9.1-6.el7.x86_64 as a PDC. There is a basic backup routine which backs up all files under /var/lib/samba but this appears to be wasteful, especially as gencache.tdb keeps growing until I delete. I can find a Samba3 reference at

winbind offline login - NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER (0xc0000064)
Hi All, I tried multiple topics and did some further analyzing regarding this. I found that described error below only appears if I restart the device when connecting from "online" to "offline". If I keep my device running winbind caches the users correctly. Based this I found the following bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1165461 There the

Ways to make "smbd" use less memory?
I?m looking for ways to make a ?smbd? daemon use less memory. Typically on our system each process uses 160-200MB virtual memory with ~120-140MB as RSS. Now with ~1400 such processes (and clients connected) this uses a lot of memory? Even though some may be shared. It doesn?t look like a memory leak though since it?s pretty stable at those levels. But it still feels pretty bloated... This

CTDB and locking issues in 4.4.6 (Classic domain)
Hi list We recently upgraded our fileservers from Centos supplied 4.2.10 to Sernet 4.4.6, and then our DCs from 3.6.x to 4.4.6. It seems that since then we've had problems with locks not being obeyed on all nodes - they only seem to work when a second client opens a file on the same node as the first client. For example, when a user opens an Excel file I will see something like this

smbd doesn't start anymore
Hi, I've a really big problem with my SAMBA 4.1.11 production server.... it doesn't want to start smbd anymore.... nmbd starts fine but not smbd. I've tried to start smbd in interactive mode to see what's happened : # /srv/progs/samba4/sbin/smbd -i -d9 produce a lot of lines about configuration (all fine), some last lines are : added interface lo ip=::1

vfs_shadow_copy2 woes / WITH logs
Hi, finally everything is working fine on my Samba 4.6 AD Domain member server after _exactly_ following https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs (no more fiddling with acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes, thanks Rowland Penny). Next thing i wanted to try is vfs_shadow_copy2 (with LVM snapshots:

I also see: Unable to create directory /var/lib/samba-second for file dbwrap_watchers.tdb. Error was No such file or directory. I'm trying: root directory = /var/lib/samba-second lock directory = /var/lib/samba-second state directory = /var/lib/samba-second cache directory = /var/lib/samba-second hoping to put samba into different dir, as you can guess, in order to have

implement of persistent handle in SMB2.1

Hmm. As you say: Windows 7 / SMB 2.1 does _not_ support presistent handles. This requires SMB 3.0 or newer. Windows 7 supports durable handles, which is already

答复: implement of persistent handle in SMB2.1
hi Michael, Sorry for taking so long to reply, I just get back on vacation. Your advice is very helpful. Our purpose is no IO interrupted with Window 7 cifs client accessing the shared folder when virtual IP taken over by another node. SMB3.0 or newer protocol do meet that demand, but Window 7 cifs client only supports SMB2.1 protocol and previous versions. So we need implement a
