No Centos5 update announcements yet
What about the update announcements for Centos5? There was nothing posted to centos-announce yet for the updates that have been released so far for Centos5. Also, the centos-announce mailing list options page does not know about Centos5 yet. Best regards, Bernd.

Centos5 NFS install from loop-back mounted DVD image fails
NFS install from a loop-back mounted DVD image fails for me when it actually tries to start the RPM install process. I come to the point where anaconda checks the package dependencies, then it tells that the install process will be started in some minutes and the last thing I see is a message similar to: Preparing transaction from install media. Then this message box disappears and the install

Issues with stat() call on CentOS5 vs CentOS4
Dear CentOS, I have recently upgraded several servers from CentOS4 to CentOS5 and I am noticing a strange change to the stat() call. I have written a very small program to test and show the behavior. I am calling stat() against a file which is exported from my NAS and mounted with 32k read/write sizes. [dougalb at centos4 tmp]$ cat my_stat.c #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h>

Does sprof work on CentOS5?
No matter how I try, I can't seem to get a library profile from sprof on CentOS5. Does anyone know if sprof actually works on CentOS5? I'd be very interested to hear if anyone is using it successfully. At the moment I'm trying something like this to get the dump: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. LD_PROFILE=libmy.so ./mymain where libmy.so is the library I want to profile, and mymain is the

CentOS5 and samba
We're trying to migrate RHEL3 and CentOS4 based samba servers over to CentOS5, but it's a bleeding disaster. We cannot get it to work reliably with any version of CentOS5, i386 or x86_64, the included 3.0.x version of samba or 3.4.x/3.5.x compiled from source. The symptoms are: read access is extremely slow, write access seems to work in principle (e.g. creating a zeros-sized file on

smartd and 3ware on centos5
Hi, I've CentOS5 box with 3ware RAID controller in it. I can't get the tw_cli command line tool to work, and smartd also barks on me. The tw_cli simply doesn't see the controller, no errors logged anywhere. When starting smartd, it is much more verbose. I'm getting a bunch of messages like this: Oct 9 22:15:15 toporko kernel: program smartd is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl,

KVM does not start anymore
Hi, I had a C7 virtual machine running on a C7 host for several weeks without any problems. Today I rebootet the host and now the virtual machine does not start anymore. I can see grub coming up and starting the kernel. After some seconds the last thing that is visble on the VM console is "ss perfctr msr (MSR c1 is0)" then the screen goes blank with just a blinking cursor in the upper

Troubles with CentOS5 and 3ware RAID controller
Folks, Since approx. a half year I have run two servers with CentOS4, all was running very stable. Then I upgraded to CentOS5 (fresh install). The servers are running quite unstable since the upgrade. The system is freezing after short uptime. I suspect the driver for the 3ware controller, because I got such error messages: 3w-xxxx: scsi0: Character ioctl (0x1f) timed out, resetting card.

Logrotate problem after start of DST
Hi, since the start of the daylight savings time my server has a problem with the log files. Sunday night the log files get rotated correctly, i.e. /var/log/messages gets /var/log.messages.1, /var/log/messages.1 get /var/log/messages.2, ... The problem now is that after log rotation new messages do no go to /var/log/messages, but to the rotated file. As DST started 3 weeks, the latest log entries
