EPEL problem
Hi, all. I'm trying to install the EPEL repo on a fully up to date CentOS 6.4. I'm using wget to download from my usual source but after I install it via `sudo rpm -ivh epel-xxxxx` it's not actually there in `/etc/yum.repos.d`. Trying to install it again, Yum just tells me it's already installed. I've no idea where it is installed if it is (which I don't think it is)

Weird netinstall issue
Hi. The other day I burnt a copy of a CentOS 6.4 64 bit netinstall disc, verified the disc which passed & about a third of the way through the install it informed me that there was no CD in the drive & refused to carry on. So I burnt another & the same thing happened. So using the same disk burner & the same batch of disks, I burnt a copy of a Debian 7.1 netinstall & it

Hi, all. I'm new to rsync so please bear with me... I'm trying to back-up to a remote host (rsync locally works fine) & keep getting the below error messages. If I mount the remote host on my OS X box (I'm attempting to back-up my Debian boxes) the operation flows smoothly. I've upgraded my rsync version to the same as the remote host, chmod'd the permissions on the

clicking on link in Thunderbird fails to open page in Firefox
This worked fine for years until I updated firefox and thunderbird recently. Now, however, when I click on a link in an email in thunderbird, rather than open the indicated webpage in firefox, nothing at all happens. network.protocol-handler.app.http in tbird's about:config specifies the executable /usr/lib/thunderbird/open-browser.sh and running the latter at the CLI with a URL as an

CentOS 5 netinstall problem
Hi, all. I'm attempting to install CentOS 5 via netinstall from <mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386> & it gets as far as formatting the disk but when it gets to: 'Starting install process. This may take take several minutes...' it hangs forever (well, a couple of hours). Dropping down in a console I see it's telling me: 'Preparing to install' then nothing.

Cran2deb4ubuntu: An Update for 2014
I have been a little quiet on the update front for the past few months, so I thought I would give a quick update as 2014 begins. Between increased responsibilities at work (pseudo-department chair) and some family health issues, work on [cran2deb4ubuntu](https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/c2d4u) (c2d4u) slowed a bit in the last half of 2013. DBAN and vesamenu.c32
I'm integrating DBAN (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) into our PXE boot menu system (using vesamenu.c32) but it just hangs when I'm using vesamenu.c32 and confusingly when I revert our menu system to using vesa.c32 it works ok. I've stripped out any extraneous configuration but it still seems to have the same problem. When I use this in pxelinux.cfg it boots into DBAN ok: default

slightly OT: dban
I'm trying to nuke a Dell Optiplex GX620. I've got a perfectly good dban 1.0.4 that I've used a bunch of times... but on this machine, it says starting, then dies, saying "dban has finished with non-fatal errors. Check the log for more information" It never gets to the interactive menu. Now that I've disabled the non-existant floppy drive, at least it does say "to

Wiping USB drives
Hi, I have a dozen of drives, ranging from 10Gb to 200Gb. I want to wipe them clean before donating them. I have a IDE/SATA to USB converter that works. I can see the drives properly. DBAN does not currently support external USB drive. Any other alternatives? -- Thanks http://www.911networks.com When the network has to work
