Plot: Distance between tick and tick label on y-axis
Hello, I want to reduce the distance between my ticks and their labels. I managed to do it for the x-axis, but the y-axis puzzles me. Here's an example where there is no space between the x-asix ticks and labels. par(las=1) plot(runif(50), type="l",xaxt="n",yaxt="n",ylab="", bty="l") axis(2) axis(1,padj=-1.5) #However, axis(2,padj=-1.5)

no y-axis
HI @ all, I'm looking for a simple solution to supress the y-axis - but only the drawn scale - not the values. Only the numbers should be displayed. I tried yaxt="n" but there everything of the y-axis is supressed. Thanks GeO -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/no-y-axis-tp4649298.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Beautifying axis tick labels
Hi, For example, the y axis shows "0 500000 1500000". Is there any way to beautify the tick labels to get 0 5 10 15, and at the top of y-axis "x10^5" (superscript 5) ? My plots all have different ylim, how to perform the beautification automatically ? Thanks Stanley [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

2nd Y-axis text problem
Dear All, I'm having problems getting text to appear on a second y axis....because this can only be done within a plot statement and my attempts to add the label as text didn't work because the "locator" refers to the plot area.... Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sion >par(mai=c(1,1,1,1.5)) >plot(time[DOY<230],Hmeas[DOY <

Survplot, Y-axis in percent
Hi I am a new fan of R after getting mad with the graphical functional in SPSS. I have been able to create a nice looking Kaplan Meyer graph using Survplot function. However I have difficulties in turning the y axis to percent instead of the default 0-1 scale. Further I have tried the function yaxt="n" without any results. Any help in this matter will be appreciated. The code is

Can someone please explain why the last tick mark on this chart is not showing?
Hi all, I'm trying to log chart but with natural looking tick marks. My specifications are very specific -- it must indicate the lowest number's tick as well as the maximum. I've attached sample code and data for a particular case (and there are a few more like this) where the bottom tickmarks on the chart are not set to where I want them to be and yet they fit in the ylim range.

plot custom x axis ticks values
Readers, For this data set: testvalues<-c(10,20,30,40) How to amend the plot instruction: plot(testvalues, ann=FALSE,type='l',yaxt='n',xaxt='n') so that x axis ticks labels can be added to existing graph with arbitrary value such as 0,100,200,300)? Thanks in advance. -- r2151

Question about setting tick mark limits in Plot
Dear R-list, I am having trouble getting the Plot function to set the tick marks the way I want, and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Below is the code that I wrote, and I am not sure why it doesn't work. p is a vector of length 2198, containing numbers between 0 and 240. q is a vector of ones, the same length as p. I want the x-axis to have tick marks every 30 min and I want the

Labelling a second y-axis
Hi, I am using the following code as an example function to create multiple y-axes on one plot. I have it working fine however, I can't seem to add a label on the second (right) axis. I have tried adding ylab="y2" in the axis call but, that didn't work; any ideas? Thanks, Jesse Code: function() { par(las=1,xaxs="r",mai=c(1,0.75,1,1)) x<-1:10 y1<-x

Rotated, Right-Justified Labels for Shortened Tick Marks
Hello R-help, I'm trying to make a fairly simple plot axis that goes something like this: plot(-10:10,-10:10, yaxt='n') axis(side=2, las=1, hadj=1, tck=-.01, cex.axis=.6) ...but as you can see, the labels are not close enough to the y-axis (where I want them... to save space for publication). Can anybody help me figure out how to move these labels over the the right a bit?

Secondary y axis
Hi I had a look at the help and previous discussions but I am still unable to solve these issues: 1 I have a set of air pressure data. I would like to plot a and b (both about 980-1000 millibar) and c, the difference (around 0-8 millibar). I use axis (4) to create a new axis (to the right) but I do not know how to assign c to the new axis which currently features the same values as the first

log scale y axis ticks control on boxplots
Hey R Users I like to control the ticks and labels in a boxplot as described for a xyplot below (thread in maillinglist in may 2003). Does anybody knows how it works? need tick marks by 10s or 20s up to 200 on x axis
Sorry, I have read other posts on tick marks but nothing is working. Here is my R code. I was able to turn off the x axis at one point (I removed that code), but never got the tick marks on by 20s. It always goes to the default of 50, 100, 150, 200. Thanks. R code: hist(OMY$FL, main = "2010 Oncorhynchus mykiss Fork Length Frequencies at Buck Creek Reach 1", include.lowest = TRUE,

How do I ensure that the minimum value is always displayed on a y-axis in a plot?
Good day all, I'm trying to plot a figure and ensure that the minimum and maximum values are always displayed. However, the code below does not display the minimum value, no matter what I try. Could someone please help? Thanking you in advance, George. Code below for reproduction (apologies if the paste is too long) >blah [1] 0.41955516 0.37330949 0.37934005 0.38013805 0.40092939

Bug with tick marks on x-axis.
Hi, I have a dataset where we are trying to model the resistance of horses' lungs. One of the covariates is the administered pressure. This variable is a little odd in the sense that an increase of pressure corresponds to a "more negative value" of the covariate. A graph representing the change in resistance in function of the pressure would be helpful for the biologist. But it
