DHCP and DomUs: not working
I''m trying to get DHCP working with DomU clients. I don''t want to use
libvirtd. There''s a dhcpd on the machine and it works fine for all clients
in the network, but not for DomUs. If I set a static IP on the DomU all
networking for them is fine, so there''s no general networking problem.
I use the xen 3.2 packages for CentOS on CentOS 5.1.
There was a public

DNS resolver over IPv6
I have a Centos server that is running BIND and has IPv6 global addresses.
I have entered a number of AAAA records into this copy of BIND in a
local view and zone (tld is htt).
Over IPv4, I have no trouble with nslookup ('nslookup - 127.0.0.1' and
'nslookup - 192.168.128.55'). I get the AAAA records back.
But if I try to use the IPv6 address of the system I get a time out.

more than one repo with --disablerepo
What's the correct syntax for something like the following:
yum check-update --disablerepo=dag ivazquez Extras Misc
this runs "dead" and doesn't do a check-update. Use kommas? Something
else? man just tells to use glob exp, but what about multiple repo's?

No shared physical device in virt-manager
I am fairly new to xen and am trying to build a new guest using
virt-manager. When I get to the screen where you can choose virtual or
shared physical device there are no physical devices to choose from. Is
there some step that I have missed while setting up my Dom0?

After BIND update owner changed and restart failed
I just applied the BIND updates.
Then I fixed the one file that had a second include of named.ca
(remembered that from last time) and did a 'service named restart', and
it failed. In messages I found:

'/etc/named.conf'
Jan 10 21:31:17 z9m9z named[31001]: /etc/named.conf:11: open:

Sorting of passwd/group files
Is there a program on CentOS which will sort my passwd/group etc. files by
username or uid/gid? On Suse I can do this with a sysconfig switch and
Suseconfig, is there something similar on RH-based systems?

kernel panic after DDing disk to another one + question on LVM
This is a machine in a remote datacenter, so I have no console access to
it. The machine suddenly went offline, was reset remotely and showed
several unrecoverable DMA errors when it came up. After a second normal
reboot (to see if the problem was consistent) it lost several services and
didn't come up after the third reboot.
After contacting the datacenter the disk got replaced and the

Quation about CentOS 4 xenU kernel
I converted a physical maschine running CentOS 4.6 to a Xen VM on a CentOS
5 host. Almost everything was running when I decided to rsync /lib and
/usr a while later in order to get updated files and get the one or two
non-working programs to work. There are differences because of the xenU
kernel I didn't think about. I forgot to exclude rpm database and
/lib/modules.
Because the synced

updating to 5.2 from local repo
This is my first major version update after using a local repo.
It seems that before I can "yum update" I have to fetch the complete new
5.2 base? Is this correct?
When I run yum update it now fails with various strange dependency errors
although all the updates are synced. When I change to using the original
repo file it wants to download many many more and shows a lot of files

Xen/VMWare Server comparison and "best Xen practices"?
I'm wondering what others who have already used the Xen kernel for DomUs
and the (free) VMWare Server can say about the comparison in actual
day-to-day operation. I've only started playing with Xen on CentOS 5 and
I've been running VMWare Server only on Win2k3 servers so far, so I'm
missing direct comparibility. I find that VMWare is highly reliable and
flexible, but needs a

How can I disable sound?
I usually don't setup any GUI on my Linux systems. Yesterday I installed
with X and Gnome on a spare system for some testing and hit a problem.
Right after login the system freezes. The system froze already earlier
when I opted to test the sound card on the Welcome screen and when I login
with the alternative login choice xterm and shut down it freezes when

So, if it fails to transform (although bigger) the machine hasn't enough
entropy (because it's quite new?)? I'm generating now on the original
machine from last year which is still going on while a second run on one
of the machines where it failed to

httpd: "internal dummy connection"
On my Centos 2.5 web server, in /var/log/httpd/access_log,
I saw several occurrences of:

I have never seen anything like this before over many
years of watching my logs. I presume it failed because

php on command line problems
The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should
be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS[''argv''] or
$_SERVER[''argv'']. That''s how the php documentation tells and how it works
f.i. on Suse.
However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no
php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find

yum hangs when Reading Local RPMDB
All of a sudden yum hangs on a Centos 4.5 (updated to the latest patch
before 4.6) when I try to use it. "clean metadata" didn't help.
The output of -d5 shows it gets to the point of "Reading Local RPMDB" and
then sits there. The process doesn't die, but doesn't seem to do anything
from that point on. strace shows this: futex(0xb76dcae8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2,

Local mirroring of the CentOS repos
I figured I try if I can mirror the base and updates repos locally.
There's no tutorial for that, only one about creating your own repo of
packages which is not the same. So, I just mirrored all the stuff with
wget and changed the baseurl in the repo files and hoped that's enough.
Works. So easy you don't need a tutorial.
*But* I then realized that the updates directory contains
