Folding@Home
Hi,
I seem to not be able to connect to the folding site and receive new work.
Anyone else having this issue? Port 8080 is open as well as the other web
ports on the firewall. I can ping the host but get nothing when I open a web
browser to it.
Anyone else having the same issues? Where can I look to figure this one out?

f/oss routing solution?
I'm looking for an open source router solution, and someone from the list
recently recommended zebra (www.zebra.org). I haven't yet identified all my
needs, but I'm guessing that it will do all my routing needs for a, say,
class C set of IP addresses, particularly if I ever have to do anything
BGP-related.
Anyone have any pointers before I delve in? Or possibly a recommendation

cpu type
I have a quick question.
The board and CPU that I'm using in one of my machines was given
to me. I didn't take the time to look up the info on the board or
anything. I was busy, so I just put the board in a pc case, hooked
everything up, and loaded the os on the machine.
I didn't know it at the time, but there's a chance it may be a
64bit board and cpu. I don't

Hi List
I have a Gygabyte GA-7N400 PRO2 with a 2.6 mHz Athlon cpu. I want to set up a
central file storage for 2/3 users using 6/7 machines. A mixture of win2k, XP
and various Linux distros (my home network). It will be used to store files,
(docs, music and DVD ) for all of these machines, print server, (two
ink-jets), mail server and later on a myth tv set up. Would SAMBA be the
best option

OT: Making BT/Yahoo account accessible to plain router
My daughter has a BT account, with a BT supplied single-port router. I'd like
to replace it with a standard router, but the settings appear to be totally
hidden. If anyone reading uses BT, could you please tell me where to find
the info? Maybe off-list, to save bandwidth for others/ Thanks

Newbie: how to install from Windows?
Hello!
I just joined this mailing list a couple of minutes ago. I'll start to
use CentOS for academic purposes. We'll try to build a cluster
based in machines with this OS.
First of all, I'd like to beg you for patience, because I'm comple-
tly new in Linux.
My first question is: every tutorial on installation talks about
inserting an installation CD, but I'm not sure about

LVM VG disappears after kernel upgrade on 5.1
I finally got 5.1 to boot after install (install couldn't keep the disk IDs
from getting crossed up, so at reboot partitions were not where install
said they would be).
I needed to compile vmware and nvidia modules, but decided to upgrade
first. Told yumex to upgrade everything.
When I went to reboot the VG with / on it is not seen by the kernel. (root
partition is LVM on top of RAID

Centos5-live kernel panic?
I am fairly sure that I had gotten this to work before, and I know that the
Centos4-live disk worked OK, but now (maybe since I upgraded BIOS) I get
this sequence after booting the live cd:
Creating /var in RAM ... Done
Found Centos-live.sqfs but couldn't mount it:
Linking /usr to /centos-live/usr

Codifying our Brace rules-
Did this conversation reach a conclusion?
My ad hoc tally says that a slight majority of the responders preferred to fully brace statements and no one wanted to totally eliminate braces.
The technical arguments for fully braced statements were 1) it's considered a slightly safer coding style and 2) commit diffs with fully braced statements may be slightly more to the point.
I didn't

lost ability to apt-get install r-base=3.4.2-1trusty1
Hello,
I need a specific version of R installed for consistency reasons. I do the standard setup steps:
echo "deb https://cran.ma.imperial.ac.uk/bin/linux/ubuntu trusty/" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E084DAB9
sudo apt-get update
And then a simple install call, which used to work just fine some time ago, tosses an

Intel Xeon and hyperthreading
Another question some of you may help me make decisions on. I've been
doing some reading that indicates that having HT turned on in this dual
xeon machine might actually slow down the computing process rather than
speeding it up. I rebooted this a.m., and turned HT off, just prior to
my main application run. One thing that might be of note, this
application is using OMP for utilizing

Question about ssh-rsa deprecation notice (was: Announce: OpenSSH 8.2 released)
I am trying to understand the details of the deprecation notice.
Because I am getting people asking me questions. And I don't know the
answer. Therefore I am pushing the boulder uphill and asking here. :-)

Hello all, while I''m using acts_as_audited(on jruby platform),
after vendored the acts_as_audited, it reports some error,
