updating to 6.4 broke olvwm/openwin
This morning a handful of workstations got upgraded from 6.3 to 6.4 and things seemed to be functional, until we tried to log in to one of our instrument accounts that for various reasons uses olvwm/openwin as the desktop (and no, I don't have the option of changing that at this time). The desktop appears to load correctly, and mouse-focus and clicking appears to work, but the

odd inconsistency with nfs
I'm having an interesting/odd problem with nfs (I think). We recently (Monday/Tuesday) upgraded our file server from an ancient redhat 7.3 system to a shiny new centos 6.4 system. We don't see any issues between the other centos boxes, but things get a bit weird when we start mounting on the old solaris clients. The initial symptom was that the 'tab complete' wasn't

I want a CentOS 62 (amd64) KDE desktop with KDM as the GUI login manager. My system environment is as follows: Host OS: openSUSE 11.4 .(amd64) with VirtualBox (64 bit) GuestOS: CentOS 6.2 (amd64) 10GB virtual disk I chose the "Customize Now" option in the installer and chose "KDE" group w/o the "Desktop" group. The system boots to a CLI console. I can login and

centos6 - failsafe terminal on login screen
I have some clients that run centos6 and I need to have users be able to access the "failsafe terminal" from the login screen. The old options (from 4/5) for choosing your session aren't present. I've googled a bit on this but don't seem to be using a good search string as most of the hits have nothing to do with this and the rest aren't helpful. So, just wondering

Illegal filenames produced by rename
Greetings. I have a Windows share mounted via Samba. I recently tried to rename some files; the destination filenames had some high-bit characters. The renaming had some completely unexpected consequences; the new filenames now contain the full pathname (including backslashes), plus other illegal characters (colons). The files can no longer be accessed or modified, either from the remote

Overriding inbox= in userdb extra fields
Hello, I'm trying to set up an alternate user with a different inbox using passwd-file and userdb extra fields and the extra field settings don't seem to be taking effect. I've used auth_debug and mail_debug and I'm unclear how I can further troubleshoot this. Is it possible to have inbox=yes in one namespace globally and then override this for one user by setting inbox=no for

prefdm still unfinished?
After testing the beta of CentOS 5, i was a little surprised to notice that the display manager part of the prefdm file in /etc/X11 was exactly like in CentOS 4 / RHEL4 and previous versions including RH9. it reads like this (added line numbers for reference): 14 # Run preferred X display manager 15 preferred= 16 if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/desktop ]; then 17 . /etc/sysconfig/desktop 18 if [

[LLVMdev] Redefining function
Hm, I wonder if the error message for llvm_unreachable should change. I think I remember a couple people focusing incorrectly on the UNREACHABLE instead of the actual error message above it (which means it's our fault, not theirs). Miranda, this is pointing at the same problem you had before. You have a function JIT-compiled, and you're trying to RAUW (ReplaceAllUsesWith) it. You'll

process id of an R script
I have a script that runs as a cron job every minute (on Ubuntu 10.10 and R 2.11.1), querying a database for new data. Most of the time it takes a few seconds to run, but once in while it takes more than a minute and the next run starts (on the same data) before the previous one has finished. In extreme cases this will fill up memory with a large number of runs of the same script on the same data.

Propping up liveice
I'm a volunteer who runs the mp3 streaming for KGNU-FM in Boulder, Colorado. We stream live at 64K with Linux, icecast 1.3.12+ minor patches, liveice, and lame 3.92. It easily supports 32 internet listeners 24x7 from a donated 400MHz Pentium II. Liveice is the only problem--it does its job of connecting the soundcard rec in to the lame encoder and to icecast, but dies without
