CentOS6: ntfs-3g and writing utf-8 filenames
Hello there, I know this has been widely discussed over the net, but I still can't find a way to write a file whose name contains accented characters in ntfs-3g partitions that are automatically mounted on my CentOS6 system. Whatever my locale is POSIX, en_US or en_US.utf8, I always get a: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character error when I attempt to create a directory or a

Write to USB pendrives horribly slow
Hello there, since I installed CentOS6 few months ago (kept up-to-date using yum), I'm facing very poor performances when writing to USB pendrives. The hardware: a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop (Intel Core Duo P8600 @2.40Ghz), 4Go RAM + 4Go swap, several USB2 pendrives of various brands (less than old, all formatted as vfat). When I perform a copy (with cp or midnight commander, copying big

External vfat devices show uppercase filenames, how to change defaults for GNOME desktop?
Hello there! I've recently switched from Fedora 11 to CentOS6. Now my SD cards (automatically mounted on plug) contents is displayed as UPPERCASE filenames. I well see in mount's man that vfat's shortname option can be set to either lower, win95, winnt, mixed. OK, that's for entries in /etc/fstab or when mounting manually. I'd like to change the defaults for devices that

Recent kernel update vs usb disk
Hello there, since kernel update 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6, one of my USB external SATA drives is not mounting. With kernel 2.6.32-131.21.1.el6, it auto-mounts in GNOME desktop when I plug the disk. When I plug the disk, this wakes it up and I see in /var/log/messages: kernel: usb 2-4.2: USB disconnect, address 11 kernel: usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 13 kernel: usb

CentOS to reside near a NTFS system
Hello there, the *old* PC (Turion 64 MT-32 800MHz, 1Gb RAM) of my gf is running Windows XP, and I plan on installing a CentOS beside of it, allowing her to select the OS at boot-time. Other system/OS installing options are not retained, please avoid ;-). My first attempt was to install the CentOS7 GNOME-Live on a USB flashdisk and to boot it on the machine. It was either freezing at grub stage

E17 on CentOS6?
Hello there, does anyone have experience setting up Enlightenment E17 on a CentOS6 system? I know that the RPM's are available from: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Enlightenment:/Factory/CentOS_CentOS-6/x86_64/ but don't have a single clue about how to switch from my GNOME desktop to it once installed. Bonding wired and wireless ifaces
Hello all, I'm wondering if there's any interest in trying to bond em1 and eth0 (respectively wired and wireless interfaces here), and if any, how to do it in CentOS6. I've found this, which could possibly help (but I'm failing yet): http://r.outlyer.net/linux:bonding https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding Both are dealing w/ ifenslave. Mingw gcc 6.x on CentOS6?
Hello there! I'm stuck here on my CentOS6 w/ current EPEL's version of mingw32/64 gcc (4.9.2), jealous about the Ubuntu's 5.3.0 version and even more jealous about Fedora 24's top-recent 6.1.0.. and now I need msvcr120.dll compatibility (provided by gcc 6.1.0). Has anybody any experience w/ recompiling Fedora's 24 mingw RPMs or another way to get the latest gcc

Red Hat Developer Toolset 3 for CentOS6?
Hi all, I could find the 1.1 and 2 repos gently provided by Tru Huynh, but quid of a v3 of the toolset? I've just found that Qt 5.4 requires what's shipped in this v3 (gcc 4.9.1, binutils 2.24) and would prefer installing those from a repo. If not, the sources will rule. Any hint? libxml for CentOS6?

I've installed all the necessary 32bit rpms to make use of the 32bit IP2200 driver found on Canon's side, but I'm missing libxml v1 (recompiling a src.rpm fails on at link against -lxml). I could not find a libxml package for CentOS6.. does anyone know a source where I could find it? It's not

CentOS6: sound prefs, how to limit output volume to the un-amplified range?
Hello there, recently installed CentOS6 on a (quite old) 64-bit system, and from the GNOME's sound preference app, I can see that the Output volume range is said "amplified" from 63% to 100%. Below 63% it's unamplified. No idea what's implied behind this amplification (I don't see this on other desktops), but I notice that when "amplified" the sound is pretty

centos7: looking for libwebpdemux
Hello there, I'm looking for libwebpdemux.so, possibly 0.4.x. I had it installed on my CentOS6, from EPEL, but now on CentOS7, EPEL doesn't provide it at all. Anybody knows about it? Maybe a rpm rebuild would do it? Regards, -- wwp -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
