Combining NFS and Samaba - file locking
I have a network where we have a main site with a PDC, and two remote sites with BDCs. The backend is LDAP which is slaved to the remote sites, Samba is 2.2.8a, the main server is part of the Suse Linux OpeneXchange Server, the other two servers are Suse Standard Server 8. What I wanted to do was to have users at the various sites map one drive from their 'local' server. Behind the

Samba Folder Permissions
Hello list members, my name is Stefan, this is my first post to this Mailinglist, so please bear with me. ;) I am working as a Network Administrator of a small Office Network. We use Debian Server as Samba PDC and Fileserver. The Domain runs pretty well with all the Windows 7 Clients. I have just one thing that bugs me. In the groupshare we set up, users can only access folders that are world

virtual superclasses
Dear List, I'm exploring the use of class inheritance for a package were developing. I want to try to build on existing a class, i first want to extend this a bit using a virtual class and then extend this virtual class in multiple other classes. This would be similar to bar3 in the example below. Since there are nice functions for creating an object of the first superclass i would like

File permissions
Hi, I recently rebuilt my Domain controller and after working on it it seems that file permissions with the new Samba file server are not the same, and I'm wondering if this is expected. If I do this in smb.conf: server services = +smb -dns -s3fs dcerpc endpoint servers = +winreg +srvsvc Then when a windows users creates a file using samba on my server then the files are

manage permissions from windows security tab
We have been changing stand alone servers at remote buildings from being PDCs in their own domain to being members of an AD domain. After some initial hiccups I think we are most of the way there. The boxes are joining the domain and users are mostly able to access their files. The last remaining issue (so far) is that we find we are unable to manage permissions via the windows security tab.

multiple sources and excludes
I have two folders that I need to merge onto a remote host. The sources contain conflicting files, and I'm trying to rsolve these conflicts using per-directory filter rules. However, it seems as if these rule files are merged together into one, instead of being treated separately for each directory. Is this the way it's supposed to work? For example, I have: Source A: foo1.zip foo2.zip

Ping an external server through a disabled provider.
Hi, I''m using Shorewall and LSM to load-balance 3 ISPs. My configuration works, but when an ISP is disabled, LSM is unable to ping from the associated interface. I understand why it happens : when `shorewall disable isp1` is called, Shorewall flushes the routing table isp1, and removes the nexthop in the balance table. So when I want to ping 8.8.8.8 from eth1, no rule allows it.

I need to know if the following is possible. I'm rsyncing from the client and connecting with ssh to an rsync server. I can connect just fine and the files go with no problem. I'm going from a RedHat 7.3 with rsync

Mac "DAVE" server + Linux samba 2.2.8a client = missing first char
I'm running stock RH9, which has the samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0 RPM installed on it. My friend has a Mac running OSX and the "DAVE" file sharing software. I can mount his shared folder using the following command: smbmount //tritanium/graphics /mnt/tritanium ...and I can see all the files in that folder when I do "ls /mnt/tritanium." But... The first character of every
