Bogus rsync "Success" message when out of disk space
Patches welcome, eh, Paul?
Upon further (belated) investigation, there are 2 affected places
in receiver.c with this error message. Both call write_file().
And write_file is called only in those two places. So that is the
appropriate location to patch. Especially since the obvious fix is
to use the rewrite code already there for the sparse file writes.

[PATCH] allow to change the block size used to handle sparse files
In some filesystems, typically optimized for large I/O throughputs (like
IBM GPFS, IBM SAN FS, or distributed filesystems in general) a lot of
lseek() operations can strongly impact on performances. In this cases it
can be helpful to enlarge the block size used to handle sparse files
directly from a command line parameter.
For example, using a sparse write size of 32KB, I've been able to

strverscmp, scandir, alphasort and versionsort
Hello,
These are implementations of strverscmp, scandir, alphasort and
versionsort, and some test cases for them.
I know these aren't in POSIX, but they're useful, nonetheless, and
someone else might be interested in them.
Regards,
Luciano Rocha

Using lm with a matrix?
I'm trying to do a linear regression between the columns of matrices. In
example below I want to regress column 1 of matrix xdat with column1 of ydat
and do a separate regression between the column 2s of each matrix. But the
output I get seems to give correct slopes but incorrect intercepts and
another set of slopes with value NA. How do I do this correctly? I'm after
the slope and

Forensics CD Toolkit for FreeBSD
Hi,
I'd like to build a toolkit CD specifically for conducting
forensics on FreeBSD. I'm not talking about a bootable
CD but rather one that I could pop into a CD ROM drive
and run trusted commands like ps, netstat, ls, etc., from.
I'd like to build a CD that would work on -RELEASE versions
of FreeBSD like 5.1 and -STABLE versions of FreeBSD too.
Can anyone give me any pointers

[PATCH] Inplace option for rsync
Hi,
I have written a 'smallish' patch to implement the --inplace option
as discussed on this mailing list at various points in the past. It
makes a small modification to the sender algorithm so that it won't ask
the receiver to relocate blocks from earlier in the file when running
with the --inplace option.
I would appreciate any testing and feedback people can provide! I

[PATCH 1/3] Add fadvise interface wrapper
With recent discussion on the LKML[1], it seems likely that Linux will
finally support posix_fadvise in a useful way with the FADV_DONTNEED
flag. This should allow us to minimize the effect of rsync on the
system's working set. Add the necessary wrapper to syscall.c.

rsync-2.5.1 / updated syscall.c "const" patch
Operating System: OpenVMS ALPHA V7.3
Compiler: Compaq C T6.5
Compiler switches: /WARN=ENABLE=(LEVEL4, QUESTCODE)
syscall.c is missing the "const" qualifiers for several of it's
functions. This patch should supercede the previous patch I submitted.
This was discovered while working on resovling the conflicts between
signed and unsigned values.

How to rbind list of vectors with unequal vector lengths?
Hi,
How to rbind these vectors from a list?:

What makes R different from other programming languages?
My intention is to give a presentation about R programming language
for software developers. I would like to ask, what are the things that
make R different from other programming languages? What are the
specific cases where Java/C#/Python developer might say "Wow, that was
neat!"? What are the things that are easy in R, but very difficult in
other programming languages (like Java)?

AsciiDoc and R
I would like to learn AsciiDoc. Is there any good examples how to use
AsciiDoc with R? I know that there is packages called ascii to do
this, but it would be nice to see some examples how AsciiDoc works
with R. Is there an AsciiDoc distribution for Max OS X?
