Changing disk UUID after cloning
So, I have a CentOS 6 system, and I want to make several clones of it. I'm using Clonezilla to clone the drives; that's no problem. But the drive UUIDs are driving me up the wall. After cloning, the two drives have the same UUID, but I'd like each clone to have different UUIDs so there's no possibility of a conflict when I am running diagnostics with two drives installed, etc.

Create CentOS 6 system as "clone" of another - with LVM and different disk sizes
Hi, I just found myself having to set up a new CentOS 6 system with a nearly identical configuration to an existing host, so I thought I would just 1. Do a minimal install to set up partitions etc. on the new system. 2. Create an image of the existing system using Clonezilla (http://www.clonezilla.org) 3. Run a Clonezilla restore on the new system. - as I though it would be a lot

CentOS LiveCD on USB
I have been following these instructions: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=501 to put a bunch of utilities (Clonezilla, SystemRescue, CentOS netinstall/rescue, etc.) on a single USB key. It works great for everything (including Ubuntu Live) except the CentOS 6.4 LiveCD. (You can see my postings at the bottom of the forum.) When booting the LiveCD, I got: Kernel panic - not syncing:

Why is my rsync transfer slow?
Just chiming in here, I haven’t read all the previous posts so may be repeating… Mike Bombich has a good piece on benchmarks for various source/destination scenarios with rsync. https://bombich.com/kb/ccc3/how-long-should-clone-or-backup-take Note that copying to sparsebundle on local media is as fast as to local disk. Sparsebundle is a mac filesystem whereas NAS is not so certain file

Hardisk cloning for centos-5.3
Hi, I want to clone my hardisk containing the centos-5.3 OS and its swap region on to new raw hardisk via network either through ssh, tftp or ftp. How do i do that ? Is there any Tool for that or will DD command be sufficient.I know that dd command will have to be used on hardisk with already existing partitions and not on raw disk. vector indexing
Hi, I got a small problem on how to define the vector index without manually inspect the vector. example: y=c(2,3,5,2,4,6,8,3,6,2,5) #I have ten set of this kind of vectors (with different values but same length) that I would also like to run the routine below #say; v=the first index in y where the value is larger than 4, in this case index 3, value 5 #what I would like to do is take y[1:v]

Data migration from one server to another- Centos 7
I want to move all my OS, services like Apache configuration and application (web server) files and folders to another brand new server. Both servers are running on Centos 7. i want to clone everything. My questions 1- what is the easiest way to do this? 2- do I need to partition hard-drive of new server exactly as old one? 3- Is there any changes to make on new server after full migration? 4-

automated remote cloning
Good morning/day and Happy New Year. We have a geographically distributed environment (marketing speak: cloud) where we regularly need to migrate individual systems to new hardware (for bigger disks or for better geographical placement, for example). We currently use Cobbler to do our base installs automatically and I am now looking at integrating Clonezilla with Cobbler. The goal is take an

Crazy thought about upgrading to new major release
I have older systems out there that work fine, just for what ever reason would be great to upgrade from a C5 -> C7 (due to no longer supported) or C6 > C7 (for updated packages). Sounds like the upgrade tool is not quite an option... I was thinking... What would be wrong with any "easy" script that did the following: 1) Removed all packages with the --justdb option. 2) Import

Remote update OS from 6 to 7
Hello all... I have a remote machine running C6. I desire to update it to C7. Not possible to be on-site. Can I copy the Everything ISO for C7 to the machine, mount -o loop C7.Everything.iso /media/cdrom then do a "yum upgrade" ? Will that work? The server is using software raid. Thanks Jerry

one-shot yum command to match rpms between systems?

The objective is not to cherry pick updates, but rather to install a second system with packages that match the first system. After fine-tuning the installed packages and stripping out the

EVE Online
Trying to run EVE Online through wine on my Asus EEEPC with a special flavor of Ubuntu called Easy Peasy built for netbooks. I run the app after doing all the necessary installation procedures and once the game goes full screen, I get sound just fine but the screen goes black and eventually freezes the computer entirely. I ran wine through terminal and got these errors: Code:

cloning a server
Hi, I have a centos 5 (current) mail server that I have compiled dovecot/postfix and installed some packages like mysql etc. These packages have been configured and changed to my liking. How can I now save all this and install it on another server without having to do all the work of compiling installing and configuring the same applications. Is it possible to burn this server image into multiple

centos Installation on Multiple machines
Hi, I want to install customized centos on multiple systems. Can PXE boot do that ? Apart from this is there any other way of doing image copy of centos OS and installing it on several client machines through network. I used clonezilla, but after image cloning, i will again have to use the clonezilla LIVE CD on client machine to do a image restore. I want to make a clone of centos OS and

Cloning LVM
I have a workstation with two separate drives set up with LVM. I'm buying an LSI RAID controller to set up mirrored drives. I'd like to clone the existing drives over to the new mirrored drives somehow, but not sure the best way to do it. The original drives & their respective replacements are all identical in size (250GB + 1TB). I thought about using Clonezilla but wasn't sure

problem with windows program in linux in virtual machine...
Hi, I'm a complete linux newbie, let alone wine, easy-peasy and netbooks. Having said that, I'm looking at buying the eee pc 701 sd and putting easy-peasy on it. However the reason I need a netbook is to run a cricket scoring program that is only available in windows. I didn't want to fork out for the netbook until I knew the cricket software will run, so I tried the following: 1.

issues with Time Machine - did macOS change how they handle things?
TL;DR: Time Machine cannot create a *new* backup on my shared drive, but can add to an *existing* backup. I'm running macOS Catalina and my Time Machine backs up to a Debian 10 server with NetAtalk and Avahi. Since Mavericks macOS has preferred SMB, and given SMB is marginally faster I decided to switch to using SMB for the Time Machine shares. On a fresh AFP share I can start a new Time
