Panic : bad pte
Hello,
There it is, all my computers on FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE had panic. I can
just say there is a problem in the 9.1-RELEASE because I had no panic
before. What afraid me is that my production server also panic'ed a
few days ago, fortunately it does not appears so often.
This is a panic that happened on my desktop computer, with a graphic
card. The crash usually appears when X starts.

9.2-PRE: switch off that stupid "Nakatomi Socrates"
Hello,
I'd like to switch off this silly "Nakatomi Socrates" message which
reminds me on Linux and their childish naming schemes.
It is only cosmetics, but it bothers me whenever I switch on the laptop.
I guess there is a switch already prsent to have in the bootloader
config?
Thanks,

Panics on 4.7 system
After some dialog with Terry Lambert on -hackers, I've been advised to
post this here.
I have a 4.7-RELEASE-p10 box that is suffering regular kernel panics.
The machine is a Dell 2650 running primarily as a file/print server to
a number of computer labs of about 400 machines (although it also
functions as a rembo image server and squid proxy). It mainly stores
applications, which

10.0-BETA4 (upgraded from 9.2-RELEASE) zpool upgrade -> boot failure
Hi,
Is there anything known about ZFS under 10.0-BETA4 when FreeBSD was
upgraded from 9.2-RELEASE?
I have two servers, with very different hardware (on is with soft raid
and the other have not) and after a zpool upgrade, no way to get the
server booting.
Do I miss something when upgrading?
I cannot get the error message for the moment. I reinstalled the raid
server under Linux and the other

Kernel panic on FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE
Hi,
I need some help to understand a backtrace.
The situation is as follows:
A diskless system acting as a kind of bandwithshaping firewall with both
ipfw2 and ipfilter active at the same time. Ipfilter is used for port
adress translation. The system panics about once every 6 hours. The
network load is very low, only one Windows XP machine is connected but
not actively used.
I added a disk

10.0-BETA3 em/nfe drivers on MSI K9NBPM2-FID board. LAN card changes.
Hi,
I have a server at Hetzner and something strange happend.
First, I installed FreeBSD 10.0-BETA3 (amd64) via their FreeBSD
9.2-RELEASE rescue system, that's ok.
I had to configure the network by using the em driver -> em0 interface.
But suddenly, the network was lost.
After an ACPI reboot, nothing. Going to the vKVM show me the system
didn't detected em0 anymore but an nVidia

Behavior of jexec
Hi,
I noticed two things when running jexec. I run FreeBSD 9.2-RC1 from
binaries and jails 9.2-RC1 too.
I log as root on the host (I havn't any other user).
# 1. $HOME
For a jail named "blog" with a "blog" user, which $HOME is at
/home/blog, if I do:
jexec -U blog blog tcsh
My id is correct, but $HOME is still root.
# 2. Accessing a jail in ssh command line

State of Unicode collation support in FreeBSD?
[crossposted to -stable and -i18n, replies directed to -stable]
Hi everyone,
could someone point me to infos regarding Unicode collation support in FreeBSD?
All I could find was https://wiki.freebsd.org/KonradJankowski/Collation but
that page has not been changed in more than two years. Looking at sources of
-current it doesn't look like those changes made it into the source tree yet.

RELENG_7: buildworld failed with MODULES_WITH_WORLD=
Hi!
I've just tried to build NanoBSD from 7.0-STABLE sources
with MODULES_WITH_WORLD knob enabled and it failed.
Note that NanoBSD uses make -j3 by default and I have dualcore system.

FreeBSD10-Beta3: No xorg-server-1.12.4
Hi:
The FreeBSD10-Beta3 kernel is recompiled successfully with the
following in /etc/make.conf
WITH_NEW_XORG=yes
WITH_KMS=yes
WITH_GALLIUM=yes
But after installworld, there is no sight of new xorg-server-1.12.4 in
pkg cache nor in /usr/ports:
How to install new xorg and where is the source?
# pkg search xorg

4.9 RC1 (i386) mplayer induced panic
All:
I cvsup'ed earlier this evening and am still able to reproduce this
panic at will. Command line, panic backtrace, dmesg, ldd output,
and mplayer version follow. If more information is needed, just let
me know.
% mplayer foo.mov [a quicktime file]
[plays for awhile, and then panics]

kmem_map too small: 260046848 total allocated
After about a day and a half or so of uptime, I'm getting the
aforementioned panic on the server ... better then having it hang solid,
but right now I'm not sure if this is replacing it, or just one being
triggered earlier then the other ...
First scan through Google, I came across some posts talking about
NMBCLUSTERS ... since its at the same settings as my other server (the

Please cc me ( eperrin@cseven.ca ) on responses to this, I am not on either

9.2 PRERELEASE (today) / amd64
Hello,
I'm seeing a panic while trying to build a poudriere repository.
As far I can see it always happens when gam_server is started (ie xfce is
running) and under disk load (poudriere bulk build) :
(That is something new, the box was pretty stable)
the complete crash dump (core.0.txt) is here:

Suspend/resume on IBM X31
Greetings
I am having trouble with suspend/resume on my Thinkpad X31, running
7.0-STABLE as of April 23. Any help would be appreciated.
First problem: When I run "acpiconf -s3" from mulituser mode, the
system suspends immediately, without executing /etc/rc.suspend (which
has mode 755); then on resume, I get a panic.
Second problem: When the system panics, I don't get a dump (or

syncer causing latency spikes
Hello,
I'm trying to investigate and solve some postgres latency spikes that
I'm seeing as a result of some behaviour in the syncer. This is with
FreeBSD 8.2 (with some local modifications and backports, r231160 in
particular). The system has an LSI 9261-8i RAID controller (backed by
mfi(4)) and the database and WALs are on separate volumes, a RAID 6 and
a RAID 1 respectively. It has
