xterm
Hi list
I?m in the process of switching from a RedHat EL 4 to CentOS 5, and run into
some problems
I?m trying to open a X session to my Centos box, and got an error message
stating that /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm is not found.
Surprisingly, /usr/X11R6/bin is almost empty, as compared to my RedHat box.,
and I am 100% sure I have selected X during the installation

Mounting CIFS shares on C8
Exactly the same... ???
[root at plexvm ~]# mount -t cifs //192.168.1.200/mp3 /home/plex/Musique
--verbose -o username=plex,password=plex,domain=DERWAEL,ro,auto,vers=3.0
mount.cifs kernel mount options:
ip=192.168.1.200,unc=\\192.168.1.200\mp3,vers=3.0,user=plex,domain=DERWAEL,pass=********

Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

According to the man pages, workgroup is supported
I have changed it to domain, but that didn't change a thing

Mounting CIFS shares on C8
Hi all,
I'm tearing my hair off trying to understand the difference between C7 & C8
for mounting a cifs FS with fstab
I'm building a Plex media server on C8 and duplicated the fstab entries
over from my current C7 installation
My data (music & movies) are on CIFS shares on a Synology NAS.
The packages cifs-utils samba-client samba-common are installed, up to date
etc...

How to display the IP on the welcome screen
Hi all,
I'm running CentOS 5.4 in a VMware guest, with the host connected to a DHCP
enabled LAN
When CentOS comes up, I would like to see the IP adress displayed on the
welcome screen.
This would save me the hassle of logging in the VM, getting the IP, and
logging off before finally ssh'ing to the VM.
Does anyone have a clue on how to do this ??
Thanks!
PS: security is not an issue as

Support policy CentOS 5
Hi list
Can someone tell me what the exact CentOS policy for end-of-life is for 5.0?
Let me explain: I have been using RHEL for a number of years and had to
switch to Fedora for installing some packages only supported under F6.
As I find Fedora's policy for release life duration too stringent (and I
do no longer need the packages that made me choose F6), I'm considering
switching over

Disabling the shutdown buttons in graphical login screen of CentOS 6.3
Hi,
I am not sure if I probably have overlooked some important clue, but I
am stuck with a problem with the gdm-greeter in CentOS 6.3 here since
three days without finding any suitable solution.
The problem:
* I have to somehow deactivate the "Suspend", "Restart" and "Shutdown"
options in the login screen.
* This has to be done in CLI mode, as I have to change

Upgrade to CentOS8
Hi folks
I have a couple of Zotac mini PCs running CentOS7 which I want/need to
upgrade to CentOS8
In theory, they are CentOS8 capable, but assuming Murphy might be lurking
around, I prefer validating the hardware before starting the effective
installation
As there is no LiveCD, what would be the recommended way to do this?
Thanks!

Disabling shutdown and suspend for normal users
Hi,
[CentOS 5]
What is the best way to remove the shutdown and suspend options
from menu's for normal users?
After googling around, I added "SystemMenu=false" to the greeter
section in /etc/gdm/custom.conf. After that the GDM login screen
still shows the options, but 'restart' indeed doesn't work anymore.
However, the gnome menu's when logged in, still have the

Upgrade to CentOS8
Hi Leon,
I don't have the infra (nor the knowledge or expertise) to create a LiveCD
I didn't think about Fedora. This is indeed a good pointer, I will
definitely try that
Actually, I'm not too worried about the basics, but rather about the wifi,
audio & video drivers (one of the boxes is a multimedia system)
Thanks!

RODBC, IODBC and Mac OS X
Dear All,
As some of you in the archive, i am experiencing problems in using
RODBC with IODBC on Mac OS X Panther.
I am currrently facing two problems.
The first one is apparently linked with IODBC (according to returned R
error message) although testing the database access from IODBC manager
seems to work fine.
The second is by far more radical, R purely and simply reports an error

Hello,
I have a data crunching program which causes me a problem.
Some of the data are identified with an & sign followed by a integer.
No problem is experienced when analysing data below &500, but value
above are ignored.
Is there some limitation in R on this topic?
Many thanks for your help.
