setup of dovecot as proxy to dbmail
Can anyone point me in the direction of a detailed how-to for setting up a postfix and dovecot (proxy) node with dbmail?
In particular I'm looking for a how-to which shows dovecot authenticating against the dbmail database directly.
The only example I've found is this one which requires a duplication of the user database.

IMAP proxy with master user and CRAM-MD5 auth mechanism
Hello,
I would like to know if it possible to have a dovecot IMAP proxy frontend where CRAM-MD5 can be used as auth mechanism (assuming I would be using a master user/password on the dovecot IMAP backend/mailbox)? I have read a few times the following http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy page but somehow it is still unclear to me if the IMAP proxy then needs to have all the

Problem with lmtp director proxy
Hi,
I have a timeout problem only when I have heavy load in my system. I
have two director servers directing to 4 backend servers.
The problem is when my smtp relays tries to deliver mail to my users
via lmtp (proxied with director).
In the smtp logs I have:
Jun 12 11:41:18 xenon13 postfix/lmtp[4248]: 4433E5D5A0:
to=<myuser at um.es>, relay=pop.um.es[155.54.212.106]:24, delay=31,

POP3 Proxy : user format not accepted
Hello,
I want to use Dovecot as a POP3 proxy (http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/ImapProxy). All is working fine on my sample platform, except that I have plenty (several thousands) of users that login using local_part#domain, instead of local_part at domain, which is an old setting on my POP3 server. And in that case, Dovecot returns 'Authentication failed'.
Here is my proxy table :

[Postfix] SASL Auth. using Dovecot with password forwarding proxy configuration
Hi,
I'm relatively new to Dovecot and I did a bit of search but couldn't
find a possible solution for the particular setup I'm working on.
Basically I have an SMTP/POP/IMAP proxy setup running Postfix &
Dovecot. IMAP/POP authentication is done using the password proxy
feature, where the login credentials are passed to the backend server
after a db lookup, which does the actual

Proxying Performance vs imapproxy
Hi,
I'm planning on a new mail infrastructure which constists of multiple
'frontends' running webmail & public access pop/imap, which would communicate
over imap/pop to 'backend mail stores'. My original idea was to run dovecot
on the backends, use a predition on the frontends to proxy imap/pop and also
run imapproxy in front of webmail [squirrelmail].
I've since

v2.0 / Master/config rewrite
If anyone's interested, I updated my master/config rewrite to latest
Dovecot v1.1 tree and added it to hg:
http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-master-rewrite/
It probably doesn't work, but with the exception of plugins it compiles
anyway. :)
I'm thinking that maybe after v1.1.0 I could continue with the rewrite
and create v2.0 after all instead of v1.2. Just look at how much cleaner

offtopic - channel banks
hi,
i have some newbie questions about channel banks. i have an adtran
act-1241 sitting around. it accepts D4 modules, and it contains a number
of e&m cards.
first of all, how does this thing work? a t1 contains 24 channels, and i
noticed that the channel bank has space for 24 cards. what do these
cards do? what are their outputs? the ones that are in there have some
outputs on the front

dovecot slowing down
Hi, not really a dovecot issue but, im running dovecot 1.0.10 with no issues
for awhile now J.
However I ran into an issue today where postfix didn't have enough
processes to handle incoming smtp connections. This for whatever reason was
causing pop/imap (dovecot) to take a long time to respond on the appropriate
port.
After looking at server and finding nothing wrong I stopped postfix

Can I take mail from Maildir mailbox and deliver it as new?
Hello list,
I have a need for someone to point me in the right direction.
Our old email system (system A) had an account that acted as a mailing
list accumulator/archiver. This account was a member of every list and
mail would be sent to it's address. The strange part is that email was
not delivered to system A because there was a . (dot) forward alias to
another machine (system B) that

io writes very slow when using vmware server
We are struggling with a strange problem.
When we have some VMWare clients running (mostly MS windows clients),
than the IO-write performance on the host becomes very bad.
The guest os's do not do anything, just having them started,
sitting at the login prompt, is enough to trigger the problem.
The host has plenty of 4G of RAM, and all clients fit easily into
the space.
The disksystem is a

Variable expansion in LDA vs POP/IMAP
Hello all,
I'm trying to understand when exactly the variable substitution
happens in Dovecot, as I get different results in the LDA and in the POP/IMAP
server.
Here's my general setup:
- Postfix MTA, delivers mail via Dovecot LDA
- users list sits in a database
- mail directory is stored in the database, but with
Dovecot variables inside
Delivery works perfectly fine,

Mouse focus in Wine
Hi,
If I play a game in Wine - either Caesar III or Half Life come to
mind right now - they seem to work better for me in a windowed setup
where the game is not full screen and I can still see the rest of my
Gnome desktop in the background. Caesar III plays well under Cedega or
Wine, HL much better under Cedega, but the point being that I've tried
both.
The frustration I've had is

Proxy IMAP/POP/ManageSieve/SMTP in a large cluster enviroment
Hi to all in the list, we are trying to do some tests lab for a large scale
mail system having this requirements:
- Scale to maybe 1million users(Only for testing).
- Server side filters.
- User quotas.
- High concurrency.
- High performance and High Availability.
We plan to test this using RHEL5 and maybe RHEL6.
As a storage we are going to use an HP EVA 8400 FC(8 GB/s)

Dovecot NFS Indexes and IMAP Migration
Hi there,
After being extremely impressed from implementing it in some customer
installations, I've decided to migrate our mail infrastructure to dovecot.
Being able to have /bin/checkpassword support across the board for pop,
imap, and smtp authentication, as well as being able to ditch stunnel for
the SSL layer...where were you in 2001?!? :)
I have two concerns, the first is about the
