KVM console?
I finally got access to some machines with more resources than the free VMware ESXi license allows which pushed me into trying kvm instead. Seems capable enough for what I need and can even import and run the existing vmdk images I already have. But, I have some questions about accessing the virt-manager console remotely for initial configuration, etc.. Normally I use freenx for remote GUI

Workaround for (EL6.4) rdesktop-1.6.0-10 Woe
rdesktop has been spewing error messages since the update to CentOS 6.4. Aside from the continuous stream of errors in the terminal window from which it was launched, there are a number of usability issues in the remote session. The pointer does not change shape when moving over various window components such as column separators, window borders, etc. The background doesn't refresh within

CentOS7 changes strike again.
Still in the process of migrating from an old CentOS5 server to a brand new CentOS7. After finally getting Virtualbox-5.0 installed and a new Wondoze10 Pro installed it became time to shift the data from the old server to the new. The old server is headless and I installed the old WindozeXP into the Virtualbox4.x via the command line. To do some of the admin I needed to attach to the windoze

Debian bug #111744 - SSH 2.9p2-5 port-forwarded connection may fail to close cleanly
I've got this report (edited for clarity): # As it happens, it is unique to tunneling. I only have one protocol to # test with tunnelling at present due to firewalling on the host I'm # connecting to (rdp to a terminal server). # # When I try and telnet [host] 3389, it works fine, and I can disconnect # as normal. If I try the rdp client, I get this error: # # rdesktop: A Remote Desktop

can't get KRDC to connect to remove Windows server - how to make it work?
Hi all, I'm trying to connect to a remote Widnows server from my CentOS 5.2 / KDE 3.5.4-11, but everytime I try and connect I get the following error: Could not start rdesktop: make sure rdesktop is properly installed And I connect using krdc rdp:/remote.host.name - but I also tried krdc rdp:/ 1.2.3.4 from the command line. It pop's up the preferences box, where I specify the screen

win7 instance just disappears
Hi, I have a fedora15 box with a win7 kvm instance that has been running for some time, but lately it seems to just crash and disappear without any idea of what happened. It's never happened while I have been using it, only when the instance is idle. I usually start the instance using virt-manager, but also start it just using "virsh start mykvm" then access it using the spicec

[OT] Remote control of a WinXP machine from a Linux host
Sorry for an off topic post, but a lot of you folks are sysadmins here or there, and just might have a suggestion... ;-) I have a WinXP machine that is to be unattended for a period of 3 years (yes, I know, it sounds ridiculous, but still...). What I need is remote access to it to perform regular system maintenance, virus cleanups, occasional software installations, reboots, config changes,

Windows guest skipping chkdsk if using Spice display
Hi all, as per subject, when a Windows guest using a Spice display is rebooted with a planned chkdsk, the consistency check is always skipped. It seems that the Spice display issues some "phantom" keystrokes, which are then intended by Windows as the "skip chkdsk at boot" signal. I tried to use a Spice display with no additional features (ie: USB redirection), but to no

spice session locking
Hi List, Is it possible to prevent other clients from stealing my libvirtd hosted spice session? This is a problem for me where multiple co-workers access the same guest over a qemu+ssh:// connection. Instead of simply disconnecting clients, I'd like libvirtd to deny the new client. I've been looking at polkit acl rules and the vnc sharePolicy attribute but so far no luck.
