Single sign-on for CentOS-6
Does anyone here use a Samba4 setup for single sign-on for MS_Win workstations
and CentOS-6 boxes? Does anyone here use it for imap and/or smtp
authentication? We are experimenting with replacing our existing Microsoft
domain controllers with Samba4 based controllers and are contemplating moving
all authentication for all our systems, Microsoft and CentOS based, over to
Samba when, or if, this

MacBook Pro and CentOS-5
After a long, and quite disheartening, series of hardware problems
with my HP laptop I decided to try out a Mac (late 2009 Intel based
19.5 inch). In the months since January past I have discovered this
to be no significant improvement and I have grown tired of the
persistent wireless connectivity problems and am totally put off by
the upgrade to OSX-10.6.4 which killed HD graphics using Open-Gl.

lscfg and vpdupdate om CentOS-6
Are these packages still available for RHEL6/CentOS6? If so then
where does one get them? If not then have they been replaced with
something else? There does not seem to be a listing for them at epel.

NTP and virtual guests
We encountered a problem with respect to KVM virtual host restore and
NTP. Specifically, our VM test host was shutdown by an extended power
outage and when power returned all of the restored guests were
immediately shutdown by ntp because the time differential between the
restored systems and that of the ntpd sync servers exceeded the panic
threshold.
This is not an acceptable situation so in the

KVM as a desktop
I am nearing the end of a project that moved our disparate services
and hosts onto kvm virtualized servers. What I am now contemplating
is setting up my desktop as a virtual host and using one of the guests
as my primary workstation.
However, I am not sure how this would work in practice. I am
accustomed to working with virtual instances via ssh (a terminal
window) and with my desktop system in

SELinux context change on /etc/posfix/main.cf
This morning I received this report of a change to the SELinux context
of /etc/posfix/main.cf on one of our hosts.
from:
system_u:object_r:postfix_etc_t:s0
to:
unconfined_u:object_r:postfix_etc_t:s0
The contents of the file have been verified as unchanged. There was a
yum update applied yesterday to this host and this may be an intended
alteration. However, can anyone confirm this for me?

OT: RIP settings for private netblocks
I am contemplating converting some of our internal networks from routable
to private IPv4 address space. I have a question about RIP as implemented
under Cisco IOS 12.x.
Presently the setting for rip is:
router rip
version 2
passive-interface [[FastEthernet]]0/0
network aaa.bbb.ccc.0
no auto-summary
What I would like to know is how one routes the entire 192.168/16 address
space using rip.

DVD-RAM writer software for CentOS4
Firstly, let me thank all of the individuals who assisted me in
various matters regarding find, tar and ssh last week. Your
contributions were truly invaluable and I learned a great deal
thereby. The reason for that brief flurry of activity was an
administrative and technical move to store-to-disc from store-to-tape
for our server backups.
We presently use a mix of store to disc on

samab-4.10 nsupdate
I changed the entries in smb4.conf (smb.conf) to this:
[global]
. . .
dns update command = /usr/local/sbin/samba_dnsupdate
nsupdate command = /usr/local/bin/samba-nsupdate -d -g
And this is what results when I run: samba_dnsupdate --verbose -d8 --all-names

Why does freebsd put these things in /usr/local/etc/? Some questions have
answers that are not worth the effort to know.

DNS configuration problem
I have introduced some error in my dns resolution and I would like
some help fixing it as I cannot seem to detect what I have done

DNS01 is a master
DNS02-04 are slaves of 216.185.71.33
All are listed as authoritative for the zone test.com

VM Philosophy 101 - How many and for what?
We are at the stage, finally, where we are prepared to
deploy public facing VM guests. Now we have to answer
these questions: How many guests in total should we
contemplate and what services are placed on which guests?
My question comes down to whether it is considered
advisable to run the primary DNS and IMAP, or indeed all
services, on separate vm guests; or should we continue,
more or less,
