noop = true and what for test?
Hi, When I put noop = true in /etc/puppet/puppet.conf on the node in question, I observe no changes. Great. Good But also, I see because of report = true absolutely zero information in the yaml regarding what would have been changed. Is there an equivalent to the above for "test = true" or must I alter the rc file to include --test ? Thanks ahead Puppet wizards!!! -- You

question about file {} type
My class reads like: class name1::name2 ($gidvariable) { file { "somepath-to-file": ensure => file, mode => ''0640'', gid => $gidvariable, } } The problem is that the file isn''t getting set to the $gidvariable''s value which is a string "abc". The other things work (presence as file, mode). Stuart -- You

"Would have triggered 'refresh' from 2 events" in /var/log/messages
Hi, I put a --noop into the rc file for puppet client and restarted it and watched it log the above message. My problem with the above message is it doesn''t give enough detail as to what was discovered and what the 2 events were (mode difference, file existence, etc.) Is there a way to up the logging level for a puppet agent --noop observation run? I tried adding --verbose in the rc

Default node
Seems like nodes are matching the default node before they are matching the more specific nodes. My site.pp has: include "nodes/*.pp" In the nodes directory are two files, default.pp and nagios_server.pp. default.pp: node default { include role::common } nagios_server.pp: node ''mon01.us1.xxx.com'' { $node_env = "production" include

Puppet Masterless on Windows
Hi all, I have been working on a configuration of a Masterless configuration on Windows. I am able to get individual jobs to run like: puppet apply <path to my puppet .pp file> However, I would like to spin up the Vagrant box off a base VM, and have a puppet manifest file in a location where puppet knows to look and provision based off that file. The obvious place seems to be

audit
Assume the following question is in regards to Puppet 3.3.2. So my question is in relation to audit. file { ''/some/random/path/through/the/tree/to/a/file'': owner => ''luke'', group => ''rebelalliance'', mode => ''0444'', audit => all } And more specifically: will the named file be force-owned to luke with the

Apply a specific manifest on agent
Hi All, I am new to Puppet and I am wondering if there is a way to just apply a manifest one-time (present on the master, not included in site.pp) on an agent node without having to edit site.pp? It''s like I want to run a command on the agent that will do this for me. Something analogous to "puppet apply <manifest>" except that the manifest is not locally present on

Run Puppet Against Master with Local node.pp Manifest?
Does anyone know if it''s possible to run Puppet as if it''s running with a Master, but using a locally created node.pp manifest? I''m looking into doing some unit tests on applications that are installed by Puppet. To do this, I''m trying to use a test VM server which I''ll deploy applications onto. I figure that the easiest way is probably to

Can't find source of "Removing mount" errors
I''m maintaining part of a rather large puppet config and at a loss to figure out where the following errors are coming from during a puppet update: err: Removing mount all: /var/lib/puppet/files/all does not exist or is not a directory err: Removing mount pixel: /var/lib/puppet/files/pixel does not exist or is not a directory err: Removing mount compute: /var/lib/puppet/files/compute

best practice for managing multiple stanzas within a config file?
What is the best way to manage multiple stanza within a config file? For a splunk configuration file (inputs.conf) I need to manage some thing like [monitor://var/log] blacklist = someRegularExpression whitelist = someOtherRegularExpression [monitor://var/lib/ourApp] There can be multiple monitor stanzas and each may or may not have a whitelist or blacklist. puppet agent errors for non included module.
Does anyone know why i would get a module error for my ''base'' module that I''m not even including for a node? I''m explicitly NOT include the ''base'', yet puppet-client-t2 still errors when i pull it in. Snips from both are below. Any ideas why this would happen? Thanks, JJ ==== site.pp file [root@puppet-master-t1 puppet]# cat

Finding a manifest full file name (with path) in a function?
I''m trying to create a function that I can call in a manifest like this: $doc = doc(''apache::service'') In the function, I want it to actually find the filename for the ''apache::service'' class... from there, I''m going to run some code that will generate the puppet-doc in text format, and then return it in a variable. Ultimately this is so

Hi, I spent a lot of time with Puppet Enterprise and like it. Lately, I''ve been doing Open Source Puppet. The question has come up: does OSP have any kind of web-facing methodology for applying one or more patterns against swaths of instances? Do tell me we don''t have to roll our own with cli going to a web front-end we have to design. Stuart -- You received this

Copying a 900 mb file to Windows !!!
Hi, I am writing a puppet manifest to install a service pack on windows, what I observe is that in case the exe file is withing 50 - 70 Mb the transfer to windows happens without any issues. But the current service pack "windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe" is around 900 Mb. My manifest is as follows file { ''c:/temp/windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe'': ensure =>

Puppet ignores hiera completely
I''m not sure at all what''s going on here, but I''ve spent a lot of time reading over the puppet hiera docs and setting everything up, but when I run puppet agent it just seems to ignore the hiera setup completely. Both the puppet master and agent nodes have exactly the same versions of puppet and hiera (installed via the official puppet APT repository). I''ve
