DNS Administration Strangeness
I'm running Samba 4.0.9 as a domain controller in a Windows 2008 R2 functional level single domain forest with a Windows 2012 domain controller. I am using Bind 9.9.3-P2 as the DNS backend with dlz_bind9_9.so driver.
When I add my Samba DC to the DNS Manager snap-in, my main domain.com zone has a red X and I cannot expand it. The _msdcs.domain.com zone seems to be ok. Also, one of my reverse

DNS problems when adding samba DC to win2008R2
Hello all,I'm trying to add a self compiled samba 4.12 DC to a Windows
2008R2 domain.Adding the samba DC was troublesome but successful (I had to
modify join.py as I swa in another thread "Join Samba to a Windows AD
ERR_DS_NO_CROSSREF_FOR_NC". After that I could join the samba DC and
everything seemed ok.
But now, when I check the DNS server on the samba DC using the windows DNS

Dynamic DNS updates (Samba 4.8.2 & Bind 9.10)
Hi all - I've been fighting Dynamic DNS updates for _weeks_ now. Quite
possibly I am missing some key piece of information, and if so, please let
me know! I have been going through every iota of information trying to
figure this out on my own, but I finally must ask.
I am unable to get any machines to _naturally_ register. I can force
register with samba-tool and I can create new records with

Samba panic when accessing DNS domain entry with RSAT DNS tool
Hi everybody,
for some time now I have an issue with our samba/bind9-DLZ setup which
became worse lately.
I use the RSAT DNS tool to configure DNS records. In the past it
sometimes happened, that DNS died when accessing the domain zone. This
condition could only be resolved by restarting samba on the affected DC.
Unfortunately the situation got worse and configuration/modification of

Samba panic when accessing DNS domain entry with RSAT DNS tool
Hello Daniel,
thank you for the fast reply.
I am also using Windows 10. I'll setup a temporary Win7 VM to test if
this will make any difference.
Do you know if this a known issue with RSAT on Windows 10 ?
Best regards
Andreas

Some strange errors in logs
Hai,
cat "/var/lib/samba/private/named.conf" also please.
And check if the correct bind9_dlz is enabled.
dpkg -l | grep bind9
Jessie, should be 9.9
Stretch should be 9.10
If this server was upgraded then you need to manualy adjust the file above.
Looks to my bind9-dlz is enable in smb.conf but not loaded.
cat /var/log/daemon.log | grep dlz
You should see thing like:
samba_dlz:

+1 "penny" :-) :-) for my thoughts.. :-p
But yes, that should fix it.
I also suggest, review your logs, you wil notice more messages.
Rsyslog/apt/snmp/postfix/ntp need manual changes after the upgrade.
At least these, maybe more but these are the one i've encountered.

RPC and NDR errors in log file
Hai,
Based on : IsSigneddnsserver: Invalid zone operation
Are you running against a ( forwarded ) DNSSEC server or DNS Crypt server.
Try an other forward if are.
If you running internal samba DNS, try bind9_DLZ
Handy list for dnssec and dns crypt:

Samba panic when accessing DNS domain entry with RSAT DNS tool
I do not know. But after I did it one time from a windos 10 machine with RSAT my whole dns was broken.
The only thing could cure that was to open RSAT on my windows 7 admin PC and delete the entries I added on Windows 10 and save the changes.

Reverse DNS
Hi Louis,
Just an update on this. I ran up a new test LXC container and completely removed apparmor. Then install the packages. I got the same errors
I thought I would change the DNS from Bind to internal and back to bind.
The following is going from Bind9 to Internal
root at server5-ad:/var/log# service bind9 stop
root at server5-ad:/var/log# systemctl mask bind9
Created symlink

Reverse DNS
Hi,
We have some issue with the reverse DNS in Samba AD. We're running Bind9_DLZ on Ubuntu 18.04. The DHCP server(Ubuntu 16.04) is different to the AD server and not in the same AD domain. The DHCP scope points to the Samba AD server as the DNS server
When a machine with DHCP assigned address tries to update the DNS record, it is able to update the forward zone but not the reverse zone. The

I'm buzzy with something else atm but i saw that /dev/urandom part.

Hi Louis,
Thank you for that
I have made the changes as per below , some items might have duplicated. I then reload apparmor restarted the samba-ad-dc and bind9 services and get the same issue. Every time the forward DNS update works but the reverse doesn't
