tiff(), jpeg(), and png() in R 2.7.0: problems if 'units = "in"' but default height and width
I love the new tiff(), jpeg(), and png() in R 2.7.0 but found an issue that I didn't see reported. When specifying 'units = "in"' but forgetting to change the default height and width (so the figure is unintentionally going to be 480 inches by 480 inches) I run into problems. Here's the reproducible example: tiff("a.tiff", units = "in", res = 1200,

Attempting new app - EES (Engineering Equation Solver)
I've uninstalled windows and this seems to be the final hurdle as there doesn't seem to be a comparable linux app (thermodynamics equation solver). I absolutely need this program for my engineering classes. Wine looks great, and the gui winetools is pretty neat too. While running the program i get: X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) Major opcode

CoolEdit Pro 2000 Crashes Under Wine -- But Only For Me?
According to the application database at the Wine home page, other people have successfully run the audio app. CoolEdit. On my Debian unstable system Wine begins to open CoolEdit Pro 2000 ('wine /home/tilleyrw/Cool2000/cool2000.exe') and then fails midway through the initialization process with the following log: tillarium:/home/tilleyrw# cat /tmp/wine.log.i1J5ID

*BUT* for reasons that I find unfathomable, I have to have my xterm open for an hour or so before X applications work. Wine's working, Buzz ain't happy...
If anyone remembers, I was having issues running Jeskola Buzz with wine. I've fixed this by apt-get remove-ing the debian-unstable packages and compiling wine from source (wine-20020310) which has created the necessary registry files. However, when I try to run Buzz.exe, I get the following fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT_setvbuf (0x403bc744,0x41544828,0,4096)stub fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT_setvbuf

SourceSafe
I am trying to run ss.exe using builtin DLLs. No luck at all:( It seems it fails to send the message (sendmsg?) somewhere. At the end, I get windows message box with the error. Any ideas? BTW, why does it ask username and password in console? Regards, Sergey FIXME:pthread_rwlock_rdlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_unlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_rdlock FIXME:pthread_rwlock_unlock

Still no joy: no X11 protocols
Hello, I know this is likely to give me a brute force attack hit, but the only thing anyone can accomplish by ssh-ing to my machine is to provide me with a tunnel into your machine. So don't bother. Anyway, my server machine is running this: /usr/bin/ssh -X -R ${port}:localhost:22 -o BatchMode=yes \ -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no ${user}@${my_home_machine} On my local machine: ssh -vvv -X

count pixels of same color in pixmap object?
Dear all, I try to figure out how to use R to count the number of pixels of the same color in some gray-level picture. I managed to read it in either tiff or jpeg format, but the returned pixmap object keeps its information out of (my) reach. Is there an easy way to tabulate the different color/graylevel pixels and their numbers? Or should I use a completely different (free) software?
