build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0.

Lustre build and install on Ubuntu
Hi,
I have 2 questions regarding building and installing Lustre
server on Ubuntu. We have a running Lustre setup on RHEL and now trying to
build and install on Ubuntu.
1. Whether latest Lustre (2.6+) server can be built on Ubuntu with the
same steps as for RHEL? Or are there different steps for Ubuntu.
2. Has anyone tried this before and/or Whether Lustre2.6.x

Monitoring Lustre for health and user experience??
Can anyone point me to a study or anything from some site that has a story re monitoring/tracking Lustre for:
* Basic health (to catch problems before users call)
* Performance régressions due to software, hardware, etc.
* Bad actors from the user community.
Are there simple probes of Lustre health?
* Are there metrics available from internal Lustre monitoring?
* Even

Re: [openib-general] problems with lustre o2ib module & ofed
It seems that lustre puts its modules in /lib/modules/2.6.16.21-0.8-default
despite the fact that my kernel is 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp !

chmod and chown
Hello guys,
does anyone of you have problems with chown and chmod operations taking
extremely long time to complete. For example chown on 200 MB folder is
taking minutes. The MDS is not loaded at all. All other operations (file
read and write) seem to be doing fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

lustre on debian
Since in Linux we are mostly a debian shop we''d like to stick with
debian for our calculation nodes if possible.
So I wanted to ask the lustre 2.2 instructions for Debian are they
more or less relevant to lustre 2.4/2.5 or am I going headlong into a
tall brick wall.
Also are newer clients backwards compatible with older server
software? I am currently just setting up a demo environment

Distributed storage and computing
Dear Lustre Community,
After researching a number of distributed file systems for deployment in a
production environment with the main purpose of performing both batch and
real-time distributed computing I''ve identified Lustre as a potential
solution.
The key properties that our system should exhibit:
- an open source, liberally licensed, yet production ready, e.g. a mature, *

Setting up a lustre zfs dual mgs/mdt over tcp - help requested
Hi all,
Here is the situation:
I have 2 nodes MDS1 , MDS2 (10.0.0.22 , 10.0.0.23) I wish to use as
failover MGS, active/active MDT with zfs.
I have a jbod shelf with 12 disks, seen by both nodes as das (the
shelf has 2 sas ports, connected to a sas hba on each node), and I
am using lustre 2.4 on centos 6.4 x64
I have created 3 zfs pools:

Loop device performance
Hello, I have a production script that do read operations to a lot of small
files. I read that one can gain performance boost with small files by using
a loop device on top of Lustre. So a created 500 GB file striped across all
of my OSTs(which are 8). I formatted the file with ext2 fs, and mounted it
on a client. Just for the sake of testing a simple bash script finds all
files with a given file

How to evict a dead client?
Dear, everyone
We have stuck with the problem that the OSS connect one dead client or one with changed IP address all the time until we reboot the dead client. From the OSS log message, we can get the information as follows:

Lustre buffer cache causes large system overhead.
We have just discovered that a large buffer cache generated from traversing a
lustre file system will cause a significant system overhead for applications
with high memory demands. We have seen a 50% slowdown or worse for
applications. Even High Performance Linpack, that have no file IO whatsoever
is affected. The only remedy seems to be to empty the buffer cache from memory

New 10Gbe adapter on lustre client brought down switch due to broadcast traffic
Hi Guys,
I had a situation yesterday where I had a 10Gbe adapter on my lustre client
configured but not active (the cable was plugged in and had link but the
port was down) and this actually brought down our cisco switch. This is a
new port that I am setting up. The reason why the switch went down was due
to the amount of broadcast traffic coming from this port even though it was
shutdown:

Lost OSTs, remounted, now /proc/fs/lustre/obdfilter/$UUID/ is empty
Hello,
We had a problem with our disk controller that required a reboot. 2 of
our OSTs remounted and went through the recovery window but clients
hang trying to access them. Also /proc/fs/lustre/obdfilter/$UUID/ is
empty for that OST UUID.

Set quota on Lustre system file client, reboots MDS/MGS node
Hi
I used lustre-1.8.3 for Centos5.4. I patched the kernel according to Lustre
1.8 operations manual.pdf.
I have a problem when I want to implement quota.
My cluster configuration is:
1. one MGS/MDS host (with two devices: sda and sdb, respectively)
with the following commands:
1) mkfs.lustre --mgs /dev/sda
2) mount -t lustre /dev/sda /mnt/mgt
3) mkfs.lustre --fsname=lustre
