Results from mixed linear models
Dear list, I'm quite confused when interpreting results from a mixed linear model. For example, working on Iris data frame, I want to know the effect of species on slope of the model "Petal.Length~Sepal.Length" I write this : data(iris) reg01 <- lm(Petal.Length~Sepal.Length + Sepal.Length:Species, data=iris) summary(reg01) It gives me a summary table with lm for the first

Survey for framework and library developers: "Information needs in software ecosystems"
Hi, I’m Nicole Haenni and I'm doing research for my thesis at the University of Berne (scg.unibe.ch) with Mircea Lungu and Niko Schwarz. We are researching on monitoring the activity in software ecosystems. This is a study about information needs that arise in such software ecosystems. I need your help to fill out the survey below. It takes about 10 minutes to complete it. A software

Suggestion: 'method' slot for expand.grid() (incl. diffs)
Dear expeRts, The order in which the variables vary in expand.grid() is often unintuitive. I would like to suggest a 'method' slot for expand.grid() which requires only very little changes (100% backward compatible) and which allows one to control this order. Please find attached diffs against R-devel. Cheers, Marius ### ./src/library/base/R/expand.grid.R

R hangs when connected via VPN [incl. minimal example]
Dear expeRts, This is a similar post as on R-SIG-MAC [I didn't receive an answer there; not sure if it was the right place to post either]. I'm running R version 2.12.1 (Platform: x86_64-apple-darwin9.8.0/x86_64 (64-bit)) on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.6.6. The following minimal example runs fine under this setup. However, if I am connected to a server via a VPN client [Cisco

incl.non.slopes=FALSE does not work at predict.lm
Dear all, I am trying to estimate the prediction from a fixed effects model and their confidence intervals as well. Though I do not want to include in the prediction and at the confidence intervals the intercept. For that reason I used the argument incl.non.slopes=FALSE. But either if it is TRUE or FALSE it does not have any difference and also the system does not provide any warning. I really

read.table opening a website incl Password
Dear all, in the past I have been able to access websites with data directly. For example the following code works nicely mydata <- read.table("http://www.lifetable.de/data/MPIDR/POL_2004.txt", header=TRUE) But what happens if I need a username and password (a different site)? How do I do that? Or is it not possible to this in R? I tried something like this mydata.frame <-
