Fwd: [PATCH (geoip)] use IO.pread from the io-extra lib if possible
I sent this to the author of geoip a few days ago and haven''t heard back, yet. Since he may be on vacation or busy, somebody may also hit this problem in the mean time, I figured I''d post the patch + git repo I sent him here. Unicorn users: The pread(2)/pwrite(2) syscalls are very useful for making libraries like this one (that rely on an on-disk database) compatible with

HtmlSlicer 0.0.1
How to split HTML content? Well, the text like: <p>Ruby&nbsp;on&nbsp;Rails is a next-generation web-framework<br><b>YEAH!</b>And of course Java killer?! :) &copy;</p> You can split to a pages in a smart way. I tried to realize it in a gem for my internal use, and now when it works for my Rails 3.1.3 application, this is enough to make it public. I

in_place_collection_editor
Hi, I''m trying to write a helper for Scriptaculous'' InPlaceCollectionEditor component. I''ve already submitted a patch (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/4302). This was a drunk patch; it needs a bit of work (Don''t drink & code!). So far I''ve gotten it to work correctly with normal collections, but I want to use it for belongs_to relations as

Disable specific LUN on a SCSI bus
Hi all, do you know if there is a way at boot time do disable specific LUN's on a SCSI bus of a particular controller? I'm trying to write an udev rule, but it seems that the system ignores the "vendor" model/name of the controller... For example: I want to disable /dev/sdb; so I gather some information with udevinfo -a -p /sys/block/sdb and I try to use them to write

have udev to ignore/hide a scsi disk - but how?
hi everyone I've been playing and trying to tell udev to ignore and not create symlinks in /dev but I fail. Hoping this is the one: ENV{ID_SERIAL}== I've tried: ENV{SYSTEMD_READY}:="0" OPTIONS+="last_rule" even ENV{UDISKS_IGNORE}="1" but udev tests would still show: ACTION=add and symlinks created. Would share an advice? many thanks, L.

permissions behave differently from different programs
Hi all, I connect to a remote server using samba, and then try to modify a basic text file. Oddly, I can only when using certain programs. The file server is a Mac machine on which I have enabled "Windows sharing", Mac's way of saying turn on Samba. Here are a few cases to explain the problem: 1) I connect from my Mac laptop by going to finder and connecting to

Does order() behave differently on different platforms?
Hello, I am running R 1.7.1 on two platforms and it seems to me that order() behaves differently on them. I noticed this when a test case passed in linux but failed on solaris. This is the behavior on the solaris platform: R.Version() $platform [1] "sparc-sun-solaris2.8" $arch [1] "sparc" $os [1] "solaris2.8" $system [1] "sparc, solaris2.8" $status

RJS behave differently than render :partial?
I have a method in my controller like the following (the syntax may not be correct, I''m doing this from memory - you should be able to get the idea though) My rhtml page has a DIV with id="country_areas", which contains a partial that only makes a drop down of country areas for a specific country. When changing the country in the country drop down, it uses the

Mongrel and Service behave differently
I have a rails application running under the latest version of Mogrel Win32. Seems to run just fine. However, when I attempt to run it under the Win32 Mongrel service, it appears to hand after hitting certain controller actions. I''m sure there is a bug in my code that''s causing this - but I just am not sure what it is yet. Is there anything about the mongrel-service that would

Why does matrix selection behave differently when using which?
Dear R community, I have a medium sized matrix stored in variable "t" and a simple function " countRows" (see below) to count the number of rows in which a selected column "C" matches a given value. If I count all rows matching all pairwise distinct values in the column "C" and sum these counts up, I get the number or rows of "t". If I delete the

The real reason why Sync and Mutex behave differently
As I''ve mentioned before, Sync and Mutex are very similar, and Mutex is very simple. Their locking algorithm (for exclusive locking) is essentially identical. And in some detailed examinations of Mutex''s behavior, there''s nothing superficially wrong with it. It''s pure ruby, so there are no funny memory allocations at the C level, and it essentially operates

file_column :root_path question.
I''m developing on Windows and deploying to FreeBSD+lighttpd using Switchtower and I''ve got things generally working. My problem now is that file_column data gets zapped every time I deploy, because Switchtower creates a whole new myapp/public directory with each rev. I looked through the file_column docs and found the :root_path option, which I use in my models as follows:

Rsync hanging, even with timeout and contimeout specified
Here's the details and some debugging I did for starters, but I have no idea where to proceed from here. Help please? Command to reproduce should be in the strace output below. -Dan P.S. Sorry for sending this a few times; I think only one will make it through to the list since I wasn't subscribed initially. $ rsync --version rsync version 3.1.0 protocol version 31 Copyright (C)

Yum still won't behave.
Before I reported that YUM often crashed. I was given help here on this list which stopped YUM from freezing my computer. However, YUM is still not behaving. Recently, I went to install a program called transcode. Yum found 14 packages that needed to be installed. It installed one of them and then stopped. It gave me this error: /sbin/ldconfig: File

How to get mount.cifs to behave like a Windows client?
Hello folks, we have a samba 3.0.22 running and it serves our windows and linux clients with shares for home and group directories. The group share is set up with a preexec script to check the groups of the connecting user and create symlinks to the corresponding directories on the file server. The script looks something like that: #!/bin/bash # some things here # $1 is the connecting user for

Corrent security mode settings to allow mess-windows XP behave!
I have a Linux samba server (CentOS 5.4, Samba 3.0.33) that is serving two printers, anonymously, one read-only file share, anonymously, and two username/password-protected writable shares. Right now, I have the security mode set to 'share'. The printers and the read-only share are handled right, but when I try to connect to one of the writable shared, mess-windows only asked for a

How Does Rsync Behave ?
Hi All: I am going thru the documentation and I noticed that there is some talk about returning error codes. Some Q:s * If rsync encounters a network error, does it do retries ? Can you control the # of retries ? * Do the rsync client & server stop running upon encountering an error ? Can you tell rsync to stop upon the first error encountered ? * If the remote rsync encounters an
