Zero byte files
Hi all, I have a Centos 6 box running samba-3.6.9 and I have a problem with files turning to 0 bytes after being edited and saved. One of the users reported that he changed the name of two files and both ended up sized 0 bytes and opening them revealed them to be empty. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've been looking for 3 days and there's obvious pattern to the events

Logging logins with preexec and Samba/LDAP
Hi all, I had the following line in my smb.conf with which to log access to the home share when users logged in: preexec = /bin/echo \"%u logged in to %m at %T\" >> /var/log/samba/logons.log Since updating to LDAP however, it's stopped working and I suspect that smbldap cant handle the % substitutions for user, machine and time. Has anyone else run into this problem? If

Multiple Login scripts
Hi all, Just a quick question about login scripts for a large number of users who change rooms a lot. I have several rooms each with a printer, and nearly a thousand users divided into two main groups - pupils and teachers who change rooms on a routine basis. Is it possible to set up multiple login scripts that would be executed in sequence i.e. run by user is %u, and machine is %m is it

Samba 4 with LDAP proxy in DMZ
Hi All, I'm setting up a Samba AD domain which works perfectly with the WIn 7 server tools and so far everything is going fine. What has me stumped is setting up an LDAP proxy in our DMZ against which I can authenticate our email and web services. I've got port 389 open on my main Samba 4 DC and if I use the domain administrator account to bind the proxy, everything works. In order

Samba 4 and squid ntlm auth
Hi List, Looking for assistance with a squid authentication problem against Samba 4. The squid proxy we're using worked fine on our old Samba 3 domain with 500+ users but keeps freezing on our new Samba 4 domain. I've joined the proxy using net ads join and the samba 4 network is a clean build as we wanted to leave any baggage from the old one behind. What we now have is a situation

Samba 4 internal DNS and reverse zones
Hi All, I currently have another thread open on squid authentication with Samba 4 and am going to try authenticating against kerberos instead of NTLM. According to the docs for the web filter I'm using, it's essential for Kerberos to be able to resolve reverse DNS so I've spent the last weekend trying to get this working. Various different documents and howtos exist but none of

Can't NAT in KVM
Good morning, list, I've been trying to get my KVM virtual machines to connect to the Interwebs for the last 3 hours with no success. I'm running Debian Wheezy (fully patched) and building virtual machines using KVM in Virt Manager. With the default, factory settings shown in virt manager, I have a default virtual network with the device name virbr0, which starts on boot and uses the

mounting images created using dd that contain two partitions
Hi all, I am trying to mount images that I previously created with dd and the images have two partitions (swap and LVM). I use these images to house data for my Xen Guests. For some reason (possibly Kernel conflicts for paravirtualized domains) I am unable to boot my Guest images. Failing which I would like to mount the disk images and atleast get my data out of them. dd -o loop server.img

Domain0 with Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen fails to boot Guests with Kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen
Hi all, I am in a bit of a fix here, I have several Guests paravirtualized running on a Dom0 that is currently running the 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen Kernel. All my guests (administered by different people) have subsequently been updated to later versions of the kernel (namely 2.6.18-164.el5xen or 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen). Ones that are still running are using the Kernel 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen while

System hang on messagebus -> problem with ldap?
Hi list, I've made a new CentOS 5 install with all updates. My users are sored in a ldap directory. If i reboot the machine, CentOs hangs at: starting messagebus I found the same problem at Fedora 5. The solution should be to change "etc/init.d/ladp" from 27 to 21 so it starts before messagebus (22) So is this the "right" solution or is there a other way? Thanks

Log NAT IP address?
Hi Timo/everyone, Currently we are logging the remote IP, but is there a way to show the IP address that the NAT connection is coming from? The reason I ask is, we are changing ISPs, and I would like to see in the logs when an external connection is coming from our OLD ISP connection, and when it is coming through our new one. We have a Watchguard firewall, and I have both External

Samba & SIDs
Hi all, I need help to clear a bit of confusion regarding SIDs on Samba servers. I had my PDC collapse on Thursday which wasn't too much of a problem as I had everything backed up but I'm now in the position that I have a mismatched Domain SID. If I run net getlocalsid I get the sid for the server (called smb0) and net get local sid <domain> returns the sid for the Domain. I

SIP Inuse Count Wrong
I am currently using a copy of Asterisk checked out as the code of 10 days ago from Asterisk and the: sip show inuse reports that I have 3 incoming connections to one of the Grandstream phones, even though that isn't the case. I believe I have tracked the problem down to the following error message, which also (conveniently) showed up 3 times: -- Got SIP response 481 ""

Samba multi-site advice request please
Hi all, I am looking at setting up a multi-site office and need to put a plan forward. The site consists of one head office and several branch office and my plan so far is this: In head office, one Samba PDC. Each branch office will have a local BDC that also stores files local to the branch, hopefully cutting down the day to day traffic across the VPN. The VPN I plan to use is OpenVPN in

Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi, I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for a Samba 3 instance. I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in it some shares accessible by users on LDAP. I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server: passdb backend =
