new option suggestion '--backup-only'
Hi, How about adding now option '--backup-only' that means making backups only and don't change any destination files? (I posted similar patch a month ago, but the patch was made for nightly snapshot of 20020808, which was tooo old! Laugh at me...) I want to use rsync with LVM snapshot to make incremental backups like below: 1) Make LVM snapshot of file system and mount it.

[PATCH] Add --preserve-atime switch to rsync
In the past there have been discussions about adding a switch to rsync to preserve the atime on files being copied by rsync. I needed this function for a project I'm working on and decided to invent it. I've attached the diffs. Note that this has the limitations describe in previous emails, namely that preserving atime causes ctime to not be preserved. *** Patch follows *** ***

patch for combining detect-renamed and fileflags patches (fwd)
Dear collegaues, please evaluate the patch attached, which allow to use both --detect-renamed and --fileflags extra features. This is meta-patch which sould be applied to detect-renamed. fileflags patch should be applied first, following by the modified detect-renamed patch. It is included in current FreeBSD port, but it seems it would be much more useful to be supported by samba

Bug with Large Files on AIX
Hi, on AIX, mkstemp doesn't open a file with the O_LARGEFILE option, so you can't transfer files > 2GB to an AIX machine. Here is a fix: diff -c -r rsync-2.5.6.orig/syscall.c rsync-2.5.6/syscall.c *** rsync-2.5.6.orig/syscall.c Sun Jan 26 21:09:02 2003 --- rsync-2.5.6/syscall.c Wed May 14 13:55:15 2003 *************** *** 151,157 **** if (dry_run) return -1; if

direct write patch
I have attached a patch that supports a new "--direct-write" option. The result of using this option is to write directly to the destination files, instead of a temporary file first. The reason this patch is needed is for rsyncing to a device where the device is full or nearly full. Say that I am writing to a device that has 1 Meg free, and a 2 meg file on that device is out of date.

couple of minor fixes to rsync 2.5.5
Dear friends! I really appriciate the great job you did on rsync package and hope for its further improvement and development. It works great in our pretty complex environment and helps us a lot in our daily duties. But we've run into couple of small inconveniences. First one: We use rsyncd to propagate a tree of html files among several web-servers. That files are generated on the fly and

fchmod in do_mkstemp? (patch included)
Why is do_mkstemp fchmod-ing the temporary file? I was not able to figure this out from the CVS logs or my searches in the mail archives. Currently, do_mkstemp does this (*): mkstemp temporary file (which leaves it with 0600) fchmod temporary file (final perm & 0700) And then later it gets renamed to the final name and permissions set to what they are supposed to be. [patch] replace dir with file error
Hit the "not a regular file (recv_files)" error last night having replaced a directory with a file. The really dumb part is that this was hit doing a link-dest on an empty destination so the robust_unlink would have presented no problem anyway. I can see no reason why non-directory special files should have any problem being replaced so i've changed that logic too. The new code

Trouble connecting to XenServer HyperVisor with Java bindings
Hello, I am trying to use the libvirt Java bindings (version 0.4.7) with libvirt version 0.9.12 to connect to a XenServer hypervisor. Virsh is able to connect to my XenServer, but when I try to do the same thing in Java, it won't connect. Here is the debug output: 2012-06-26 19:48:52.259+0000: 26051: info : libvirt version: 0.9.12, package: 1.fc16 (Unknown, 2012-06-26-11:43:53, flynx)

virsh migrate results in error: Timed out during operation: cannot acquire state change lock
Hi all, Hi have one computer hosting several VM, this particular server is in need of maintenance and has to be shutdown. In order to avoid disrupting the services provided by the VM I intended to migrate the VM to another computer. Computer 1 and 2 do not share any storage. So it is necessary to migrate not only the memory but also any data on the hard-drive. Both computers are running

Patch to ignore exluded files.
I came up with a patch to fix the problem of IO Errors caused by excluded files as did Eugene V. Chupriyanov below. Is there a chance that this change will show up in a future version of rsync? Is there a reason that we should not ignore IO errors when copy_links is off? Just want to make sure that I'm not missing something here that may corrupt my syncs.... Here's the version that

Re: [libvirt] domain.info() sometimes returns state zero for running machines
Sorry but I misunderstood your last post completely :-D but now I tried what you said, using the CVS version. I also dumped the "ret" value from virXen_getdomaininfo. The output was simple: ret=1, domain_flags=0 (right after XEN_GETDOMAININFO_FLAGS!!!). Sadly I don''t have much time to dig deeper but it seems to me that this happens very seldom or sometimes not at all (hard
