Xen updates / TODO
Hello,
A couple of TODO items/suggestions:
1) Xen 4.2.4 was just released:
http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2014-02/msg01624.html
I think we should first update Xen4Centos6 rpms to Xen 4.2.4
to have a "known good" release from the stable branch currently in use in Xen4Centos6.
2) After that, we should start packaging/testing Xen 4.3.2:

updating for XSA-108 -
So... it is theorized that XSA-108 is why amazon is rebooting. Is
there any way for me to know when this update hits CentOS5 or
xen4centos6? Do we know that it is *not* included in one of the
centos patches?

longevity of ruby on rails
Hi,
I have recently added Ruby on Rails to my repertoire and as I start a
new project, I find myself wondering: Why are so many of the postings
I find as I search for help from 2006-2009?
Should I start my new project with RoR, ASP.NET, Python/Django, Zen?
Is RoR thriving or dying?

[LLVMdev] is the SmallVector implementation standard c++?
While debugging a bootstrap problem, I noticed that SmallVector stores
one element in SmallVectorImpl and N - 1 in SmallVector. It also
assumes that all elements are continuous in memory. Does C++ makes any
guaranties about the relative memory position of a base and parent
classes?
I haven't studied it a lot, maybe we can keep N elements in
SmallVector and pass the pointer to SmallVectorImpl

New 3.10.18 Kernel for Xen4 needs testing
For anyone who is using our Xen4CentOS6 repo, we have created a new
kernel from the new LTS 3.10.x kernel tree (to upgrade the current 3.4.x
xen kernel) that we hope to roll into the production repo.
Please look here and test the kernel, libvirt, and xen files there:
http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/xen-c6-RC1/
That repo should be able to be used for testing or it should be able to

Its when syslogd stops/starts. The hardlinks need to be recreated for
some reason.

Speex Support for Ices?
wget ices*bz2
fgrep ./* -e "speex" ?
fgrep ./* -e "ogg" ?
Can't remember the exact lib name(s), but speex is very similar to
vorbis/ogg lib implementations. So whomever wrote ices, would probably
have a pretty easy time incorporating it.
Well, before I do anything, I still need to get my program outputting
usable metadata.

This is an alsa stream from the line-in port. Ezstream & oggfwd
apparently do not stream from Alsa.
I've seen some acrecord command line options, but it would also be nice
to update metadata often too.
Ices seems best. I've

domU doesn't see all memory
Hi,
I'm running CentOS 6.2 x86_64 as xen guest on a CentOS 5.7 dom0.
The host is running 2.6.18-274.7.1.el5xen, the guest
2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.x86_64.
Memory for domU is set to 1024 MB and "xm list" shows these 1024 MB.
But "free -m" on the guest system shows only 652 MB.
When I set up a CentOS 5.x guest with 1024 MB "free -m" shoes 1024 MB.

syslog from chrooted environment
I have a somewhat busy sftp server where the users are all chrooted into
their home directory. In order to log all the commands they enter, I
have to create a /dev/log entry and hard link in their home directory so
that syslog works for their commands
Match user *
ForceCommand internal-sftp -f local1 -l verbose
Everything works, but its a bit of a pain if someone restarts syslogd

How to use alpha transparency channel for colors?
The release notes for R 2.0.0 states:
It is now possible to specify colours with a full alpha
transparency channel via the new 'alpha' argument to the
rgb() and hsv() functions, or as a string of the form "#RRGGBBAA".
NOTE: most devices draw nothing if a colour is not opaque,
but PDF and Quartz devices will render semitransparent colours.
A new argument

Instance-backed CentOS AWS AMIs?
Hi list,
I've noticed that instance-backed AMIs are not available in AWS MP (only
the EBS ones are there). Still though, also the instance-backed AMIs are
listed as published and available on your wiki:
http://wiki.centos.org/Cloud/AWS
I've seen that the same question was asked already before but I'm not sure
the answer given actually covered the whole question:

Very odd mouse issue
Hi,
I'm VNCing into my KVM server and opening virt-manager.
When trying to manage a newly created guest, I'm finding the mouse pointer stays on the outside of its virtual machine window.
Any insight as to why its tracking so oddly?
Thanks in advance,

Hey
Just want to let you guys know that, although it may have been around
for a bit, bringing Xen back to CentOS is awesome and I really
appreciate it. I was very disappointed when RedHat dropped support as
Xen is awesome.
Thanks for the effort!

Why no BIC.default function?
I'm using R 2.0.1.
I looked in the email archives but didn't see anything on this topic.
I've noticed a surprising (to me) difference between AIC and BIC:

[1] BIC.gls* BIC.lm* BIC.lme* BIC.lmList* BIC.logLik* BIC.nls*

Lost icons and background on 5.2 desktop
Somehow I did something that caused my gnome desktop to evaporate. The
only thing that hasn't vanished is the task bar I have set up at the
bottom of the screen.
Which configuration files/directory may have become corrupt or gone?
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,

merge performace degradation in 2.9.1
I have noticed a significant performance degradation using merge in 2.9.1
relative to 2.8.1. Here is what I observed:
N <- 100000
X <- data.frame(group=rep(12:1, each=N), mon=rep(rev(month.abb), each=N))
X$mon <- as.character(X$mon)
Y <- data.frame(mon=month.abb, letter=letters[1:12])
Y$mon <- as.character(Y$mon)
Z <- cbind(Y, group=1:12)

PEAR Channel and Git Repository Mirror for PHP Markdown & Extra
Until today, the only way I offered PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown
Extra was with packaged zip files available on my website. It turns
out, unsurprisingly, that some people would prefer a simpler path for
keeping their copy of PHP Markdown up-to-date.
So today I announce two additional ways of grabbing PHP Markdown and
PHP Markdown Extra. The first one is a PEAR channel which can be used

Xen4CentOS issue with running xen domains and a restart
There is an error in libvirt when rebooting or shutting down with a
running xen domain on Xen4Centos6
When libvirtd tries to shutdown, it tries to suspend the running machine
and fails with:
VirDomainManagedSave error: this function is not supported by the
connection driver
Does anyone know how to patch libvirt 0.10.2.x to work around this issue.
