VTd not showing PCI device in VM
I''m having trouble actually seeing a PCI device in my VMs. I''ve resolved several of my issues using previous posts and using the VTdHowTo wiki page. I have both VT and VTd BIOS options enabled. I have pciback hiding the devices and xm can list and assign the devices to VMs. I don''t see the PCI devices in my VMs though. I have tried a windows and a Linux vm, without

Balancing I/O Load
We are seeing some disturbing (probably due to our ignorance) behavior from lustre 1.6.3 right now. We have 8 OSSs with 3 OSTs per OSS (24 physical LUNs). We just created a brand new lustre file system across this configuration using the default mkfs.lustre formatting options. We have this file system mounted across 400 clients. At the moment, we have 63 IOzone threads running

openfiler (was: using CentOS as an iSCSI server?)
> Simple, it's only a NAS device, and not really a file server / web > server / data base server as well. Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd considered it or if anyone here has done it. I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to virtualization, but

possible file corruption
Hello, I have a troubling issue with random file corruption using either lustre 1.8.6 (internal Cray lustre) and lustre 2.1 (sonexion - produced by xyratex). Randomly, our users will come across an issue with files either having 0 size, or being corrupted. The 0 size files are usually ascii files (which are normally created with simple cat and awk statements, serially), while the corrupted

Understanding lustre setup ..
Hello, I have been reading http://wiki.lustre.org/images/1/1b/Hadoop_wp_v0.4.2.pdf for setting up Hadoop over lustre. Generally in hadoop setup, we have 1 Namenode and various number of datanodes. If I want to setup the same keeping Lustre as backend, in the document it is mentioned that: ".............Our experiments run on cluster with 8 nodes in total, one is mds/namenode, the rest are

Allocating shelf space
Hi Folks, This is not an R question as such, though it may well have an R answer. (And, in any case, this community probably knows more about most things than most others ... indeed, has probably pondered this very question). I: Given a "catalogue" of hundreds of books, where each "entry" has author and title (or equivalent ID), and also Ia) The dimensions (thickness,

HP T/R2200 G2
Has anyone had any success with the HP T/R2200 G2? I have used the T/R2200 with nut a few times before and it works great, but the G2 doesn't want to talk to me. I have tried bcmxcp from 2.0.4, 2.2.2, and svn, as well as the usb drivers. Maybe the G2 isn't a rebadged powerware unit? Thanks James

I/O freeze after a disk failure
Hi all, yesterday we had a drive failure on a fc-al jbod with 14 drives. Suddenly the zpool using that jbod stopped to respond to I/O requests and we get tons of the following messages on /var/adm/messages: Sep 3 15:20:10 fb2 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /scsi_vhci/disk at g20000004cfd81b9f (sd52): Sep 3 15:20:10 fb2 SCSI transport failed: reason ''timeout'':

Disk Layout for New Storage Server
We are implementing a ZFS storage server (NAS) to replace a NetApp box. I have a Sun server with two dual Ultra320 PCIX cards connected to 4 shelves of 12 500GB disks each, yielding a total of 24TB of raw storage. I''m kicking around the different ways to carve this space up, balancing storage space with data integrity. The layout that I have come to think is the best for me is to

Cheap Array Enclosure for ZFS pool?
We have 14 500GB PATA drives left over from another project. Given that ZFS seems to prefer working with jbod''s, does anyone know of an inexpensive enclosure with an fcal interface to host the disks? This message posted from opensolaris.org

Open Source NAS/NFS solution
Hi Has anyone got any ideas on a nfs/nas appliance that i can install on x86 hardware with a few JBOD shelves attached to it. I would like an appliance like install and based on CentOS would be great. I really like the look of www.openfiler.com but it seems to be only in RC release stage so i don't think the 'boss' would like that idea. thanks

write RPC & congestion
Hi, thanks for previous help. I have some question about Lustre RPC and the sequence of events that occur during large concurrent write() involving many processes and large data size per process. I understand there is a mechanism of flow control by credits, but I''m a little unclear on how it works in general after reading the "networking & io protocol" white paper. Is

ext3 filesystem corruption
Hi - We have had 3 rather major occurances of ext3 filesystem corruption lately, i.e. so bad we couldn't event mount, and fsck didn't help. I am looking for pointers, that could help us investigate the root cause. In general... We are running RedHat WS 3 Update 6, 2.4.21-40.2.ELsmp or 2.4.21-37.ELsmp We have a small SAN system that looks like this

Lustre and cross-platform portability
Whamcloud and EMC are jointly investigating how to be able to contribute the Lustre client code into the upstream Linux kernel. As a prerequisite to this, EMC is working to clean up the Lustre client code to better match the kernel coding style, and one of the anticipated major obstacles to upstream kernel submission is the heavy use of code abstraction via libcfs for portability to other
