Dovecot login hangs often
Hi - We have dovecot version : 0.99.11 release : 2.EL4.1 on Centos 4.2, with an LDAP backend (Samba PDC) and pam set to authenticate against LDAP. Dovecot is set to use pam for authentication. It uses mbox, and the machine has very little load (95% idle, no memory pressure). Every 36 hours or so, no users are able to login to imap (we have only imap enabled). Other services that use the same

A few questions about remastering
Hi, I've searched all over Google, but couldn't find a proper answer to my needs. I've installed CentOS 5.1 only with the packages I need and then made a few of my own. Now, here's what I need: a) To integrate my self-made packages in a remasterized DVD; b) That the install process of the new version skips package choosing, i. e., when it reaches this stage it just installs

Remastering an RPM based distribution – How To
From my work with Fedora, I have a reasonably complete How To Guide that presently runs about 30 pages. Although the process of remastering a distribution is not complex (once it is understood), explaining the how and why of each step does get a bit verbose. For distributions like Fedora that have frequent updates and no decimal releases, having an up to date copy for subsequent installs is a

Created a custom/minimal CentOS 5.x install ISO
Hi all, I'd like to try rolling a somewhat stripped down and customized CentOS DVD. This is particularly interesting to me now that CentOS 5.5 is 2 DVDs. I dare not call it a new distro as I suspect I will be the only one to use it. ;) I've been googling for ways to do this, figuring it must be somewhat straight forward, but my google-fu is weak it seems. Can someone point me

Build a LiveCD?
Hi, I have a highly customized desktop built from CentOS 5.4 and RPMForge repos (plus some stuff of my own). I'd like to build a LiveCD from that, for one very specific reason. I have a medical application (MedinTux) that would be very handy to demonstrate to doctors, hospital staff, etc. with a LiveCD. Any ideas? Niki

Custom ISO based on kickstart
Hello! I would like to shrink my installation media restricted only to necessary packages based on my kickstart file. So I am looking for an application/script which select rpms and those dependencies based on a kickstart file. If just display them that is ok does not need to copy/download anything else. Is there any such utility? I've found a site which helps to select rpms based on my

Creating an alternitive install CD for CentOS 5.2 (w/ patched mkinitrd)
I need to be able to install CentOS 5.2 on a machine with software RAID (and LVM) setup. I discovered (the hard way!) that there is a bug in the mkinitrd package that causes it to enter an endless loop when there are /dev/mapper/ devices present during the install process. There is a patch to mkinitrd, which I applied and created a new rpm for mkinitrd with this patch applied. I'd like to

I want to customize the contents of my CentOS 5.1 x64 CD, and re-create the ISO to write to CD again and install on a server. I know it's got something todo with mkisofs, but I'm not 100% sure what the commands should look like Can someone please give me a sample of the whole

setting sound indicators for Isolinux menu selections
Hello, I am an active member of the Vinux community and have taken on a project of remastering a Ubuntu installation Cd in order to make it accessable to a blind user. I am able to sound the system bell when the boot menu loads by adding a ^G to the label statement which works well to tell a blind user they are at the boot menu. My intent is to sound the bell at each menu item, but I'm unable

Latency of Linux Bridge
Hi there! I am working a lot with VoIP in my company, so I thought to use linux bridge functionality together with tc to emulate delay, jitter, packet loss, duplication, reordering etc. for testing purposes in our lab against our VoIP products. I just recognized, that a basic bridge just with it''s minumum configuration of 2 network interfaces creates latency of approx. 5ms on very low
