stopping amd causes a freeze
Occasionally stopping amd freezes my system. It's a rare occurrence,
and I haven't found a reliable way to reproduce it.
It's also a real freeze, so there's no way to get into the debugger
or grab a core dump. I only can perform the 4 seconds hard shutdown to
revive the system.
I run amd through sysutils/automounter, which is a scripting solution
that generates an amd.map file

wpi driver freeze on boot
I've got a HP dv8000 laptop. Setting up the wpi driver for wireless freezes
the system on boot with the following error:
wpi0 requested unsupported memory range
wpi0: could not allocate memory resource
It lists a pcbi device (pcbi4 i think) and an actual memory range, but since I
have to reboot using kernel.old the /var/run/dmesg.boot is wiped with the
info. Is there anyway to grab the

USB ports on Lenovo T400 do not work after a suspend/resume
Hi,
FreeBSD-9 works fine on this Lenovo T400 - except that suspending with
no USB devices plugged in result in no ports working after resume.
If I have a device plugged in during suspend - on any port - then all
the ports work fine after resume.
I've attached usbconfig and acpidump output.
here's what is logged in the kernel buffer during suspend and resume:
Her'es the suspend:

Increasing the DMESG buffer....
Hi,
As a next question to my building this server.
I'm nogt able to get a full verbose dmesg.
Probably because the kernelbuffer for it is too small.
I know there used to be a kernel option to increase it.
But I can not find it with the setting in NOTES or any other place I
looked....
Is it still there?
Thanx,

Users other then root using swat to configure?
Hello,
I'm wondering if there's any easy way to enable a regular user to log into
swat and have swat grant them root privelages, so they can use it to
configure samba without having root access...
Please shoot me an email at choranburg@iss.net if you have any ideas,
Thanks,
Chadd

n00b question: Will xVM work on my hardware?
Hi folks.
This is probably a dumb question, but i''m not sure where to start.
I have snv_80 running and booting into xVM with no problems.
I am wondering if my hardware supports running Windows Vista in a virtual machine?
I have a Dell Precision M6300
In particular, I''m wondering if my graphics card and wired/wireless NIC are going to work?

Users can't change their own password...
Hello,
I've recently put Samba into production, and while I do love it, I am having
a problem I can not figure out. It comes when a regular user tries to change
their password. I have dug through the FAQ's I could find, and also looked
through a few trouble shooting sections. Everything they suggest checks out.
The server as a whole works great. If I log in as root and change a users

10.0-BETA3: Unable to access files on SMB share
Hi All,
on fresh installation of 10.0-BETA3 it is unable to access files on Samba share:

//USER at HOSTING/DTEL-IX on /mnt/fs/dtel-ix (smbfs)
# cp /mnt/fs/dtel-ix/port_distribution.xls ./
cp: ./port_distribution.xls: Bad address
At the same time I get kernel messages:
smbfs_getpages: error 60

installing crossbuilds
Back before the 7.0 Release I used to install cross builds by
NFS-mounting /usr/src and /usr/obj of the build machine on the
target machine and running:
# cd /usr/src
# env MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/usr/obj/<stuff> make installkernel KERNCONF=<kernconf>
...
This doesn't work any more because all the installation tools
are built for the architecture of the build system.
The alternative

Kernel not mounting root
Hi all,
I did cvsup to 7-STABLE yesterday, build, installed and booted a new
kernel then buildworld.
Then I noticed that my PS/2 keyboard is not working at the loader menu
so I booted multiuser and did the make installworld part from there.
Then I tried to reboot but now it hangs after the line
Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad4s1a
It sits there for at least 10min. I tried so far:

STABLE/9 SMP ACPI suspend/resume - video mode not being restored
Hi,
I'm toying with the SMP/i386 ACPI suspend/resume patches in -9. Thanks
so much for this!
I've noticed though that the video backlight stays off after resume. A
common problem on -9, so I set hw.acpi.reset_video=1. That restores
the backlight.
However, the video mode isn't restored. I have my console set to
VGA_80x60 and the resume seems to set it up "wrong". I get half

dvd dma problems
I have a couple of DVD drives (one drive, one burner) that used to play DVDs
quite fine from 5.3 to somewhere in the 6.x branch. Nowadays I have to send
them to PIO4 to play DVDs, because they'll just throw DMA not aligned errors
around in UDMA33 or WDMA2 mode.
Should someone be interested in this I'm willing to supply all necessary
information, such as the exact drives, firmware

Xen 3.0.2-2 + linux-2.6-xen-fedora
Did anybody have success in setting up xen 3.0.2-2 with a newer kernel
than 2.6.16? I ran into the same LVM problems as mentioned before on
this list (not being able to lvremove a snapshot).
Now I''m trying to get the 2.6.18 running from the fedora repository (
http://hg.et.redhat.com/kernel/linux-2.6-xen-fedora ) but I didn''t have
any success so far. The xen hypervisor binary

CC messed up in RELENG_7 build
The sources were csupped ~3 hours ago. My CC is defined as follows:
env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc /usr/local/bin/ccache cc
I have done many buildworld, buildkernel and port builds with this setting and
it never caused any problems. However today buildworld fails the following way:
env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc /usr/local/bin/ccache env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc

[wifi] wifimgr for freebsd
Hi, I made a wifi script based on the wlanconfig in bsdinstaller.
here is the code:
https://github.com/gihnius/freebsd-wifi
I think we can make it more suitable for many devices and normal use.
Any idea to write a normal feature script to use freebsd wifi easily ?
and thanks to the author of wlanconfig.
