HTTP authentication/authorisation for Apache & AD.
I am looking into the best way to integrate active directory user
authentication and authorisation in to Apache.
So far I have a working LDAP solution that requires the
username/password to be entered and a Kerberos setup that is transparent
to the user but with no authorisation.
Searching the net seems to only find commercial offerings which offer
true password less integration between AD &

Help request: Windows and Linux authorisation in windows domain.
I have problem (as you noticed ;] ). I have to make unified
authorisation system for large, unsecure network connected to a two
Polish skelete networks. As you see I need to do it right to avoid big
problems.
The goal is to have windows and linux computers authorized by one
Linux mashine. I can do it by installing samba as a windows domain
controller. It would work for windows. Linuxes can

chown command goof up
Basically, what I typed was:
chown -R user2:user2 *
chown -R user2:user2 .*
chown -R user2:user2 *.*
...all in /home. Duh. I forgot which way recursive went.
So, I then did:
chown -R root:root *
chown -R root:root .*
chown -R root:root *.*
...this time in / to try and f things. Duh again. Other items need to
have other owners & groups.
So, how can I fix this? In MacOSX, there is a utility

Authentication & Authorisation - Whats the common approach?
Hi,
Just wondering what the most popular approach is for authentication and
authorisation in a rails application that is deployed and fronted by
apache? Also when there are say a couple of rails apps being hosted.

scaling to multiple data files
Hello,
I have logging information for multiple machines, which I am trying to
summarize and graph. So far, I process each host individually, but I
would like to summarize the user count across multiple hosts. I want to
answer the question "how many unique users logged in on a certain day
across a group of machines"?
I'm not quite sure how to scale the data frame and analysis to

Solution: NFS & Dovecot!
Hi folks!
It looks like Timo nailed down the NFS issues we've been seeing here in
last night's CVS build.
Anyone running Dovecot in a high-usage environment should check this out.
Here are some relevant ChangeLog updates that seem to address the problem:

LDAP Authentication and Authorisation.
Hello all,
At my current job the time has come to unify our LDAP infrastructure
into one tree (preferably). The basics are working but we are not sure
how to restrict which users can log into which machines.
What we would like is for everyone in the (for example) "infra" group
to log into all machines while people in the "development" group can
only log into development

2.2.8a - winbind authorisation problem
Hi,
I have a working installation of Samba 2.2.8a on Mandrake 9.2 connected to a
Win NT 4.0 sp6 via winbind.
Everything works fine except that I cannot give the NT user "administrator"
administrative rights on samba and users cannot change samba file
permissions from Win2k/WinXP
Here follows my smb.conf

Basic Permissions Questions
Hi List :)
So, I have a folder1, its owner is user1 who has r+w on the folder.
User2 is the group owner who only has read access (when I say user2, I
mean the group called user2, because when you make a new user the OS
can make them their own group). You can see these permissions below:
[user2 at host test]$ ls -l
drw-r----- 3 user1 user2 28 Nov 2 16:17 folder1
How ever user2 can not

lda fails in parse_angle_addr if sieve is enabled
Hi,
Since updating to 2.3.1 on my FreeBSD mailserver mail delivery using
lda is broken if I have sieve enabled.
(Before updating this was 2.2 and pigeonhole 0.4)

Pigeonhole 0.5.1
Mailflow is OpenSMTPd as MTA, using mda delivery to rspamc which
utlimately delivers using dovecot-lda.

Plugin mail-filter tangles
System installed : Dovecot 2.2.12 as IMAP server and Postfix as MTA.
Dovecot and Postfix connected via LMTP
+ Dovecot mail plugin 'mail-filter' to encrypt/decrypt emails on the fly
with public/private users' RSA keys.
Case study :
You have 3 (virtuals) users belonging to 3 different domains, all
managed by your Dovecot server.
One of these users is connected to Dovecot with MUA

mails delivered to the wrong user when using lmtp_proxy and reject_unverified_recipient
Hi,
looks like we detected a serious bug in dovecot's lmtp proxying where
e-mails are delivered to the wrong user.
The setup is:
*) Dovecot is configured with "lmtp_proxy=yes"
# Support proxying to other LMTP/SMTP servers by performing passdb lookups.
lmtp_proxy = yes
*) Postfix uses "dynamic recipient verification", so Postfix starts
sending a (verify) mail by LMTP to

Dovecot-2.1.14 - pop3 processes always hangs forever - another follow-up
Hello,
With the same basic configs as in my previous messages, I tried with the maildir format instead of the mbox format.
That is, in both cases ("virtual" uids/gids vs a single "real" uid/gid), doveconf -n shows:
mail_location = maildir:~/maildir
instead of:
mail_location = mbox:~/mboxes:INBOX=~/mboxes/inbox
Here too, with "virtual" uids/gids, connections thru
