Migration from samba_dsdb to tdbsam.
While trying to resolve the loss of prefix for full_audit, I attempted to update from Samba 4.3.9 to 4.4.5. Its a very simple environment, standalone server running on i386 built from source. After performing the build and installation, I was informed that passdb backend = samba_dsdb was no longer supported, so I commented out the line, to find which default I should use. testparm advises it

Windows 7 + Samba 3.5.6 = abject misery...
Can anyone help with this? I set it all up a few months ago, the samba side being standard upgrades via debian - configured as a PDC, and the windows 7 clients being clean installs, with the standard lanmanworkstation regedits done. They've been working fine since then, but have now started failing, instead raising the error message 'The trust relationship between this work station and

question about sysvol replication
Hi, I've created an Active Directory domain with 2 samba 4 running in debian (I'm using the latest 4.1.x sernet packages). Everything is running perfectly but I've found that I also have to configure sysvol replication (that I didn't), looking at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication I've found this statement: ... for rsync-based SysVol replicaton, you have to

sysvol replication and posix uid / gid mapping
Hi, I just found out the hard way that sysvol replication with rsync stoped working when I activated winbind (libnss-winbind actually) on my primary AD DC. Originally I hadn't planed to activate winbind on the primary AD DC since that machine was not meant to provide any shares. What I hadn't thought of was the fact that GPOs reside as files on the sysvol share and thus are subject

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Just to mention and because I'm in doubt: The samba_backup script contains tdbdump for private folder to create online dumps of all ldb. But the dumps are smaller than the original. Is that ok? I'm in doubt regarding integrity. Am 20. Dezember 2014 10:59:59 MEZ, schrieb Marc Muehlfeld <mmuehlfeld at samba.org>: >Hello Johannes, > >Am 18.12.2014 um 12:23 schrieb johannesa:

SAMBA 4.10 SYSVOL Replication adn RODC
Hi All, 1) I read that the devs are working on supporting AD 2012 in 4.11, very cool. 2) I read SAMBA 4.11 can support 100,000 users and 120,000 computers, very cool. It appears that SAMBA is moving to be a viable file server, authentication and authorization server that can replace Microsoft Active Directory - Directory Services. Is this possible before 2030 for business with multiple sites

Automatic sysvol replication through detection of filesystem events
I thought this can be useful to someone, so here it goes. I am using automatic SysVol replication with the help of "watcher", a recursive incron. https://github.com/splitbrain/Watcher "Watcher is a daemon that watches specified files/folders for changes and fires commands in response to those changes. It is similar to incron, however, configuration uses a simpler to read ini

How to configure samba to use LDAP/Kerberos authentication without using winbind?
We have a environment that the we cannot(don't want to) use winbind to join samba server to the win2003 AD(with LDAP RFC2307bis Schema and uid/gid setup for users). We managed to get the linux (CentOS) to accept windows domain user ssh to it(with nss/nslcd/kerberos settings). But couldn't make samba server to use the same way to serve windows domain users. Samba4 Disable USB ports
Good morning Daniel, The amendment that I spoke have to be done on the server. All user created in Samba4 receives the "Domain Users" group as primary. I did several tests on the GPO to no avail. When I took the User of the "Domain Users" and put in "Domain Admins" the GPO to make any changes now operates. I believe that because of the "Domain Users"

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Hello List, we have a running (test) AD samba4 system running successful for several month. We are now trying to add more DCs to the mix and have a proper backup/desaster recovery strategy. Basically I wan't to adapt the samba_backup script found in the sources to backup everything via git into our repository. I understand that the best solution would be to tar everything before commit.
