Slow connection and browsing
I have tried this with a bunch of different versions of Samba, starting
somewhere in the 3.0.1 series. I am currently running 3.0.34 on several
Gentoo servers, all showing the same problem.
I am almost positive it is not a Samba issue, but I was just hoping that
someone may have experienced it and knows if there is a solution.

Small/Medium Samba Install
I am currently researching the possibility of slowly moving an existing
Novell network [with all Windows clients except mine :)] to something
Linux based. I have about 900 clients that would be slowly migrated if
this whole thing is feasible. The version of NetWare we are using now is
no longer "officially supported" from Novell, so it is becoming more and
more difficult to successfully

CPU Usage statistics Issue
Hey,
I''m currently trying to measure the CPU Usage of a process that''s
running on a Linode VM, which is virtualised using Xen. It appears to
exhibit very weird CPU Usage statistics and I was wondering if anyone
could explain how/why this is happening. I am running a series of
processes, each of which entirely pegs a core.
Pegging 1 Core = 14% of CPU
Pegging 2 Cores = 28% of

Print only server
I currently have a 95% Novell Network network that continues to have
constant printing issues. Enough Novell bashing, here lies the problem.
I am trying to migrate all of our printers over to a samba print server,
but in several of my tests I have come up with problems. I will attach
my smb.conf at the end for those of you that wish to see it.
I am using lprng as the printing backend because all

Consistent UID/GID mappings?
Greetings everyone,
I am currently in the process of trying to setup Samba4 as an Active Directory DC. My environment contains about 50% of Windows workstations, and 50% of Centos servers/Ubuntu workstations.
Everything setup quite nicely, with Windows workstations and Linux machines being able to logon with a domain user.
The problem I have is I can't seem to be able to get consistent UIDs

Can we update idmap documentation for 3.6?
Just when I thought I had idmap changes correct for 3.6, I realize I
have a setup that's not quite right:
getent passwd
->No AD users
getent passwd DOMAINA\\aduser
aduser:*:1001601:1000513::/home/aduser:/bin/bash
Shouldn't "getent passwd" show both local and AD users?
Samba has had such an identity crisis over the years with idmap
documentation. Depending, on where you

smbd PANIC at privileges
I've had a lprng/samba print server for (literally) years that has just
worked perfectly. Everything is setup with full guest printing, mainly
to make our lives here a little easier.
I had to migrate the machine from one physical server to another and I
just basically copied the lprng printcap and smb.conf file to the new
server, restarted the services, and everything seems to be working.

Am I getting the best performance?
Okay, I've been chasing performance for a while now. I have no idea if I
should be trying to get better performance or if I'm getting all I can out
of my hardware. Here is the information:

Running an NT4 PDC and an ADC side by side
Dear List,
I'm planning to migrate an existing Samba 3.4.7 NT4-domain
(our.site.com) to a Samba 4.1.6 AD-domain (ad.our.site.com) on another
machine. Our site currently has about 30 clients and 50 user accounts.
My plan is to setup the ADC on the other machine and to migrate the
user accounts using the Samba4 classicupgrade tool. I would then newly
setup groups, permissions, etc. on the new

W2k ADC + Samba Member + winbind + win 98 clients problem
Hi there.
I have a windows 2000 Server in ADC mode.
I have a samba 3 box as a domain member to the ADC where security=ADS
I auth fine to this box from Windows 2000/XP clients. I see shares on
the domain member with no issues.
winbind works fine, in that it auth's ok etc etc
Windows 98 clients are configured to log into the Bionomics domain, and
do so with the W2k Server with no problems.

That's quite good. A few suggestions here:
1) Don't use complexity 0 unless you're really desperate (the CPU gain

is possible.
To remedy this, I tried to create a share called "share". Then create
subdirectories under that using UNIX groups. I am using a group sticky
bit in conjunction with create mask = 770 to keep the perms straight.
Here is the share:

Speex optimization and 12 bits conversion for 12 bits ADC
Hi, all,
I am porting speex on ARM7TDMI, I have done some optimization, the
result is that the encoder and decoder need about 60 MCPS for 5.96kbps
bitrate and complexity 0. Can someone give me informtion about Speex
optimization on ARM7?
Another question, my ADC and DAC are 12 bits, but Speex codec is
16bits, Did someone try to modify speex to 12 bits? I think if I
modify speex to 12 bits, the
