[PATCH v2 0/3] btrfs-progs: prevent mkfs from aborting with small volume
Here are 3 patches to avoid undesired aborts of mkfs.btrfs. These are based on top of Chris''s btrfs-progs.git: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mason/btrfs-progs.git Thanks, H.Seto Hidetoshi Seto (3): btrfs-progs: error if device for mkfs is too small btrfs-progs: error if device have no space to make primary chunks btrfs-progs: calculate available

[BUG] Cannot Mount Btrfs Volume Created By mkfs.btrfs v0.18-26-g0030f1d
Hi, I try to format a USB memory with a Btrfs. I can format it with mkfs.btrfs without problems. But; when I try to mount it, it fails to mount with the below error messages. But the USB memory works fine with other filesystems (ext4, XFS etc.). So, the hardware is not faulty. tarkane@tarkane:~$ sudo mkfs.btrfs -d single -n 4096 /dev/sdb1 WARNING! - Btrfs v0.18-26-g0030f1d IS EXPERIMENTAL

[PATCH] daemon: lvm: Only return public LVs from guestfs_lvs API (RHBZ#1278878).
When a disk image uses LVM thinp (thin provisioning), the guestfs_lvs API would return the thinp pools. This confused other APIs because thinp pools don't have corresponding /dev/VG/LV device nodes. Filter the LVs that are returned using "lv_role=public". Thanks: Fabian Deutsch --- daemon/lvm.c | 4 +++- 1 file changed, 3 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/daemon/lvm.c

impossible to create a ext3 filesystem on a LVM2 Logical Volume
Dears, I'm faced with the above mentionned problem. System is a HP Proliant DL380 with HP SmartArray 5304-256 Controller and a HP StorageWorks 4300 disk shelf. OS is Debian/testing with kernel 2.6.3 and LVM2. I've created a new LV and when I try to create the FS on it, it fails when saying "Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information:" sar output shows that CPU

[PATCH 0/2] Fix btrfs blocksize and bind mkfs.btrfs (RHBZ#807905).
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807905 Currently if you specify the blocksize parameter to mkfs-opts with a btrfs filesystem, then it fails, because mkfs.btrfs interprets the -b option as meaning filesystem size. The first patch fixes this by disallowing blocksize (it cannot be mapped meaningfully into btrfs parameters). The second patch adds the full /sbin/mkfs.btrfs utility to the

reversing the effects of mkfs.btrfs?
I was playing around with btrfs, and did a mkfs.btrfs on one of my partition. Mistakes, it was my data partition (ext3 based). I have not yet mounted the device, but the mkfs.btrfs continued to completion. Is it possible to salvage my ext3 filesystem? Anyway to reverse the effect of mkfs.btrfs? Thank you for your help/answer. -- Regards, Peter Teoh

will mkfs.btrfs do an initial pre-discard for SSDs like mke2fs does for Ext4?
Hi all, are there any plans that future versions of mkfs.btrfs will do an initial pre-discard for SSDs? (AFAIK mkfs.btrfs does not do this currently) For Ext4, mke2fs does this with the -E discard option. From the mke2fs manpage: -E discard Attempt to discard blocks at mkfs time (discarding blocks initially is useful on solid state devices and sparse / thin-provisioned storage). When

why does mkfs.ocfs2 take so long?
Hi, Why does mkfs.ocfs2 take so long compared to gfs2 (pretty fast iirc), xfs (almost instantaneous), or ext3 (slow but still ok)? mkfs.ext3 on a 9TB volume
Hello, I have: CentOS4.1 x86_64 directly-attached Infortrend 9TB array QLogic HBA seen as sdb GPT label created in parted I want one single 9TB ext3 partition. I am experiencing crazy behavior from mke2fs / mkfs.ext3 (tried both). If I create partitions in parted up to approx 4,100,000 MB in parted, mkfs.ext3 works great. It lists the right number of blocks and creates a filesystem that fills

BUG btrfs fi show displays stale btrfs volume
I''ve filed this bug under util-linux, because I think wipefs isn''t deleting all btrfs metadata it could. But ultimately it appears to be a btrfs bug because nothing else sees the stale volume. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=889888#c15 btrfs-progs-0.20.rc1.20121017git92d9eec-1.fc18.x86_64 e2fs-progs-1.42.5-1.fc18.x86_64 kernel 3.7.1-2 Brand new 80GB virtual disk,

LVM issue
Hi We use AoE disks for some of our systems. Currently, a 15.65Tb filesystem we have is full, I then extended the LVM by a further 4Tb but resize4fs could not handle a filesystem over 16Tb (CentOS 5.5). I then reduced the lvm by the same amount, and attempted to create a new LV, but get this error message in the process lvcreate -v -ndata2 -L2T -t aoe Test mode: Metadata will NOT be updated.

toasted ext3 filesystem under lvm2
I have a Fedora Core 3 system at home, that was running fine, but now won't boot. Someone shut the power off on it without doing an orderly shutdown, and also I sometimes apply patches with "yum -y update" without doing a reboot immediately afterward - I suppose either of these could be related to my system not booting. I have a lot of information about the early stages of the

ext3 filesystems larger than 8TB
Greetings. I am trying to create a 10TB (approx) ext3 filesystem. I am able to successfully create the partition using parted, but when I try to use mkfs.ext3, I get an error stating there is an 8TB limit for ext3 filesystems. I looked at the specs for 5 on the "upstream" vendor's website, and they indicate that there is a 16TB limit on ext3. Has anyone been able to create

Which mkfs tool can I use for an ext3 file system??
HI, I have just upgraded my Linux 7.1 to 7.2 (so I can have ext3 available for use). My question is how do I format a partition for an ext3 file system? We can normally run the command 'mkfs' or 'mkfs.ext2' to format an ext2 file system, or 'mkfs.xfs' for an xfs file system. I was looking for some utilily like 'mkfs.ext3' or similar. Question: Does ext3 support
