lme: random effects of a quadratic term
Hello, I am estimating the following model: so2.lme<-lme(so2~1+I(alcadakm^2)+dia,data=subjectes2,na.action=na.omit) And when I try to plot the random effects of the quadratic term with respect to a covariate (mam) I get an error: > so2.lmeRE<-ranef(so2.lme,augFrame=T) > plot(so2.lmeRE,form=I(alcadakm^2)~mam) Error in plot.ranef.lme(so2.lmeRE, form = I(alcadakm^2) ~ mam ) : Only

reusing external functions across libs
Hi, I am searching for a way to solve the following problem: I want to use an external function, defined in a dyn.load()ed shared object, in another dyn.load()ed shared object. Currently I have to take the sources (Fortran) from one libraries src/ directory and copy them into the src/ dir of the other library, resulting in two copies of this function. This is bad for maintanance and maybe also

ALTREP: Bug reports
Hello Luke and Gabriel, Thank you very much for your quick responses. The explanation of STDVEC is very helpful and I appreciate it! For the wrapper, I have a few new questions. 1. Like Luke said a mutable object is not possible. However, I noticed that there is one extra argument *deep* in the function duplicate. I've googled all the available documentation for ALTREP but I did not find

ALTREP: Bug reports
Hello, I have encountered two bugs when using ALTREP APIs. 1. STDVEC_DATAPTR >From RInternal.h file it has a comment: /* ALTREP support */ > void *(STDVEC_DATAPTR)(SEXP x); However, this comment might not be true, the easiest way to verify it is to define a C++ function: void C_testFunc(SEXP a) > { > STDVEC_DATAPTR(a); > } and call it in R via > a=1:10 > >

IP Alias problems
I have a few IP addresses attached to an interface without problems. I also have some chrooted environments attached to these IP addresses. Is there a way to make connections (telnet) from these environments look like they are coming from the aliased IP''s rather than the main IP address? Thanks for any help Kevin.

File Server member DC ACL permissions
I will choose to use the winbind. Based on the link that Rowland said: https://wiki.samba.org /index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member I followed the steps as described in the tutorial. I created symlinks. In the main DC I added this line in smb.conf: idmap_ldb: use RFC2307 = yes Changed /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: files winbind shadow: files group: files winbind hosts:

Quoi D'Neuf, a beautiful Pinot Noir from the Loire
This bottle of Quoi D?Neuf by Herv? Villemade, a primeur from the Loire, was a real pleasure, a thirst wine that you sip without second thoughts and restriction to the last drop : This Pinot Noir with a bit of Gamay is fruity, gouleyant and fresh. This proves that even tasted several months after its release, a Vin Nouveau can deliver. It arrived on the market on the third thursday of november

ALTREP: Bug reports
Hi Jiefei, Thanks for tryingout the ALTREP stuff and letting us know how it is going. That said I don't think either of these are bugs, per se, but rather a misunderstanding of the API. partial residuals & the output of residuals.lm(..., type="partial")
Dear list, I would like to know how the function residuals.lm calculates the partial residuals from an lm object with more than one predictor variable. In other words what is residuals.lm(...,type="partial") doing behind the scenes? According to the help file for residuals.lm (?residuals.lm), "The partial residuals are a matrix with each column formed by omitting a term from

How to calculate relative risk from GAM model in mgcv package?
Hi R users,I am a beginner in the use of R. I need urgent help for my thesis study. <https://stats.stackexchange.com/posts/633206/timeline> I have daily air pollution parameters PM10, PM2.5 CO, NO2, SO2, and O3. I also have daily hospital admission numbers. Taking into account the effect of weekends and holidays, I would like to used generalised additive model (GAM) to explore the

Optimization problem
As a simple example, I want to find minimum value for x^2, but it can't be obtained by: f<-function(x)x^2 optimize(f,lower=-1,upper=1) What are other methods to deal with this? I tried DEoptim, still doesn't work. Any suggustions will be extremely helpful! THanks! beginner data.frame question
I need some help understanding how on of the example data sets is formatted in the basic R installation. If I load the Mona Loa CO2 data, with the command: > data(co2) I can view the data with: > co2 And the data are in the form of 11 rows labeled as years (1994-2004) and 12 columns labeled (Jan - Dec). This structure appears to be a dataframe, however, if I type the command

can you recommend a good manual for R that starts with a data set and gives demonstrations on what can be done using R? I downloadedR Langauage definition and An introduction to R but haven't found them overly useful. I'd really like to be able to follow some tutorials using a dataset or many datasets. The datasets I have available on R are Data sets in package 'datasets':

Preliminary version of ts package
There is now a preliminary version of a time series package in the R-devel snapshots, and we would welcome feedback on it. It is based in part on the packages bats (Martyn Plummer) and tseries (Adrian Trapletti) and in part on code I had or have written. (Thanks for the contributions, Martyn and Adrian!) Some of the existing ts code has been changed, for example to plot multiple time series, so

Off-Topic: Crime Statistics Don't Pay
WARNING: COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC -- Nothing to do with R. I thought readers of this list might enjoy the following. The link to the full article is at the bottom. I hope this is not "too" inappropriate. ------- Overconfidence in crime statistics doesn?t pay. In a new study, a team of criminologists makes the case that reported crime rates should acknowledge uncertainty in the data. The
