gspca - running out of ideas
For video capture from a USB camera, as near as I can tell, there's a
problem with the driver gspca_zc3xx with the latest update to the kernel.
All our cameras were working fine before the update to 2.6.32-358.11.1;
since, two cameras, both on fairly new Dell servers are screwed.
Meanwhile, on some older servers, same update, no problems.
Of the two bad ones, one's got AMD, and the other

gspca and motion
We recently rebooted a lot of systems with the new kernel in 6.4,
2.6.32-358.11.1.el6.x86_64. Suddenly, we're having real problems with our
cheap surveillance cameras in the "computer labs". What I see of video and
jpg is only about 20%-25% of the top of the picture, and the rest is
green. When the service starts, I see, in both dmesg and
/var/log/messages,

Back to gspca
Ok... digging still more into this problem that I'm *still* fighting,
using mplayer and a higher debug level, what I *think* the significant
message is (this is just one example line):
libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: fill_nbits error: need 5 more bits
fps = 15.626953, interval = 0.096001, a_skew = 0.000000, corr_skew = 0.000000
vcnt = 1, acnt = 0
Which seems to indicate that for some

Anyone using motion in 6.5?
Kernel 2.6.32-431.3.1.el6.x86_64. Anyone using motion, or in some other
way using the gspca_zc3xx driver? Just in the last week or two, I've
started getting error messages in my log

5.5 & gspca
Irritating quirkyness: we have a bunch of videocams. To use, we use gspca.
Usually, on an upgrade, I just go into the gspca directory (which appears,
from their website, to have not been updated since '07), make clean, make,
make install.
Having gone up to 5.5, did the same. What's happening now is that it
works, delivers the mpgs... but dumps errors in the logs:

gspca tarballs?
Does anyone know of a reliable site to d/l a tarball of gspca? *NOTHING*
I've tried works on those two servers, suggesting to me that there's some
weird bug in the driver that's in the kernel. They remain, as I mentioned,
about the top 15% ok, and the rest green screen (which I've googled to
find other folks, years ago, complaining about), so the only thing left I
can think of is

dmesg and syslog errors in CentOS 6.4 on Dell R720 server
Hi,
I have updated the firmware for perc raid controller card, network card,
IDRAC firmware and the BIOS version on Dell R720 server. I have installed
CentOS 6.4 and updated with all the latest packages using yum -y update.

kernel parm question: MPS? pcie_bus_safe
I'm fighting a long-standing problem: we've got a Dell PE R720 with a
BT878 card in it, running four surveillance cameras (it's a secure room).
Since I put the card in, within 20-30 min, the box's little LCD screen
goes orange, and complains "bus error" on the slot the card's in; I've
moved it to different slot, no joy. Note that the same card in an older

lshw on a newer Dell
Odd thing: I just installed and tried to run lshw on a Dell R415 running
5.8. It goes through the subsystems it's scanning, hits IDE, and that's it
- it just sits there. I've waited minutes.
Anyone else seen this?

CentOS 6.4 Installation on Dell R720
Hi,
I am planning to install CentOS 6.4 on Dell R720 which has hardware raid
card and 6 hard disk slots available.
I have planned with the below set up :-
*2 Hard disks configured in RAID 1 for installing OS
*
*4 Hard disks configured in RAID 10 for data drive.*
Please suggest and recommend if the above approach is correct and let me
know if i am missing anything which is crucial to set up a

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet, ASIC rev. 0x5720000

I have connected the ethernet to port labeled 0, but it appears

[syslinux:master] PXE ISR: Force polling on select hardware WORKAROUND
Hi all,
Based on the commitdiff comments, this looks like what I (and many many others) have been plagued with.
Machines typically affected:
DELL PowerEdge 2950, R720, R810, etc. (server class)
DELL PowerEdge 960 (desktop class)
Eagerly awaiting the next pre-release to test this out!

Very odd issue w/ a CentOS 6 system
Now, this is one we have an issue with: it's got a bttv card, and motion
running on it. It's a Dell PE R720. For some reason, it has never liked
the card: 20 min after reboot, it says fatal bus error... but nothing's
wrong, and it runs just fine. Well, expect that we need to keep it on the
2.6.32-431.20.3 kernel, because *everything* later, it randomly starts
rebooting, several times a

Bug#787229: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64: xl command hangs on Dell R720
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64
Version: 4.4.1-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Hi,
I was running Debian Wheezy (amd64) and xen-hypervisor 4.1 on a Dell
PowerEdge
R720.
Xen was working fine.
Xen was configured with LVM
Now, I'm trying Debian Jessie (amd64) and I have a strange problem.
After booting, Xen seems to be working : /etc/init.d/xen status

Re: zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12
You could always use 40-gigabit between the two storage systems which would
speed things dramatically, or back to back 56-gigabit IB.

virtio nic dosent use 10gbe speed.
Hello all.
We are moving from Xenserver 6.5 environment to KVM because we can't use
10gbe speed in our VM's so we decided to test KVM.
To inicial test I've create script, using qemu commands, to build two VM's
and test the nic speed.
Each VM has one nic, using virtio, into it own bridge. In this bridge we
associate one 10gbe physical nic.
They can communicate each other.

New controller card issues
Running CentOS 5 (long story, will be updated some day). A 5 yr old Dell
PE R415. Whoever spec'd the order, they got the cheapest, embedded
controller. Push came to shove - these things gag on a drive > 2TB. So, we
bought some PERC H200's for it, and its two mates. This morning, I brought
the system down, and put in the card, and moved the SATA cables.
This did not end well.
