drive letter problem, pclinuxos
Have just installed Wine, version wine.1.2-0.RC4.1pclos2010.i586,rpm. Also did the Wine Gecko install, manually, as was suggested by pclos, in accordance with the Wine Wiki page. All of this seems to work, and I can get the Notepad to work, and to print, so it sort of looks like Windows. But it seems to be installed on the E: drive--at least that's where most everything defaults to.

centos 5.4, firefox and adobereader plugin, disabled input fields
Hello, we are using firefox-3.0.15 from the CentOS-Repository and the adobereader plugin from the adobe-repository. We have a curious problem with adobereader-plugin in firefox. When a pdf document is displayed via the plugin, i.e. within a tab in firefox, all input fields are disabled. I cannot enter a search string or fill in fields. The cursor and page up/down keys are also disabled. But when

Kingsoft Writer, etc.
Latest PCWorld mag had a nice writeup on Kingsoft Office software, which comes in 3 flavors, the lowest of which is free, so I d/l'ed it and installed it in Wine, version 1.4-1pclos2012--the latest version the pclos distro has. It seemed to install OK, but it won't open any file, and it won't open even a blank file so you could write on it. (Just looking at Writer, for the

nut on pclos-2010.7
Greetings people; The section of drakeconf that pclos uses has two problems. First is several screens full of complaints about deprecated syntax in "/etc/udev/rules.d/70-nut-usbups.rules" at each reboot. So I pulled the current 2.5 svn trunk, then found I was missing quite a few build tools needed here that aren't used when building a kernel, currently running a 32 bit

Lightscribe
I just bought an HP DVD Writer 1040r (as identified by k3b), an external USB-connected CD/DVD burner. The drive gets assigned /dev/scd0. I can burn CDs and DVDs, read from CDs and DVDs, boot from DVDs (and, I assume, CDs) but have been unable to use the lightscribe software to label a disk. I have lightscribe-1.18.11.1-0 and lightscribeApplications-1.18.6.1-0 installed, can run the GUI at

rsync not transferring files [SOLVED]
Something is not right as I have added files to the server that has never shown up on my backup machine - so everything is NOT being update by any means. I finally removed rsync - version rsync-3.0.6-12.el6.x86_64 and installed the same version that is on my server which is rsync-3.1.1-1.el6.rfx.x86_64 Now everything is working as expected. Perhaps there is something between the two different

help install
Hope this does not duplicate to the same place, but I sent the following message to a different input. Here it is: I have tried 4 or 5 times to install Centos 7,* and it seems to install, but it won't boot to KDE or any desktop. It comes up in text mode, and nothing I do will get it into a kde mode. Or any graphic mode, that I know of. I have enabled a root password, and a user

I really want to thank you for taking time to help me with this. I have changed the rsyncd.conf as per you suggestion below. cannot label a lightscribe disk
Hi I am having problems labelling a lightscribe disc in a Lacie USB2.0 interface CD/DVDW. I am running CENTOS 5.0 I can read and write cds and DVDs including DLs without any problems. Both xcdroast and k3b detect the unit as TSSTcorp-CD/DVDW SH-S162L Lacie's 4L software unfortunately doesn't detect any unit with either the gui interface or the cli interface. I loaded Lacie's

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine. I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and find that it

4.10.2 not connecting to (old) NAS
Thank you Rowland - adding "ntlm auth = yes" in the global section and rebooting the machine has provided access once again to the NAS. In answer to your questions - the smb.conf was from the PCLOS machine.  Question - I had tried sec=ntlm in the mount statement without it being in the smb.conf - did that not work because ntlmv1 had not been enabled? As to the question marks, that

SATA DVD Burner / AHCI / CentOS 4.7 (kernel: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL)
OK, it seems that the kernel I have (stock CentOS 4.7: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL i686) seems to gronk the nVideo SATA controller in AHCI mode. It is NOT able to deal with the SATA DVD Burner I have. It is a "Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model AD-7241S-0B LightScribe Support". Is there some special magic I need to do? Here is the relevant bit from the boot up (SATA ports

kghostview and xdg-open. Need to fix problem across whole system
In Centos 5.3, a bad problem has surfaced in user land. We want to use either Evince or Adobe acroread as the pdf view, but the update of kdegraphics has somehow screwed up these systems so that the odious, horrible, awful pdf viewer kghostview is used. It is what you get when you doubleclick on pdf files, it is what programs get when they try to use xdg-open framework. This happens even though
