resolving names it is really slow slow with CentOS5.x using named
Hi all, I have a problem using named with different CentOS5 servers (2 servers): all they are really slow to resolv any internet address and most of time fails to resolv. This situation differs if I use "forwarders" servers like opendns: resolving names it is really really quickly. And I don't understand why. On the other hand I have tested three DNS servers using Windows

OT: anything in CentOS 5.2 that uses opendns.com when browsing web?
I believe this is completely OT, but I want to be positive. I have a fully up to date CentOS 5.2 box. During the past week, when surfing with Firefox (and today, while testing with Konqueror), frequently, especially when DNS is slow, I am seeing references to opendns.com At times, I end up on opendns.com web pages, instead of at the web site I'm trying to get to. My ISP, the phone company,

Went with OpenDNS for now
A few weeks ago I asked about firewalls and family filters. Lanny Marcus, I believe, suggested OpenDNS. Just wanted to thank him (and everyone here) for their suggestions. Eventually I would like to learn about firewalls, but I don't really want to run another machine at this time. OpenDNS is trivial to set up on the router and looks to be just about exactly what I wanted. Thanks. Sorry to

Samba bug 7818 / Debian bug 603729 RESOLVED finally (I think)
I thought I would post this in case it might be of help to someone else who has experienced winbind crashes since moving to 3.5.x. Back in November 2010, after upgrading to Samba 3.5.x, I started experiencing repeated winbind crashed resulting in the generation of "winbind_cache.corrupt" files. I was premature in saying the problem was resolved and the bugs could be closed because

intermitent domain logon failures
I have an issue where at odd times, maybe after 3 days, maybe after a week, people suddenly cant do domain logons. Unfortunately the machine is 50km away so i'm sure theres more details I can glean once I can interogate the users a bit more. Things I have noticed: Anyone currently logged in can still work fine. A restart of samba fixes the issue (till it hapens next). ps ax shows smbd and

Apparent bug remains in v4.0.7 - Hosts allow parameter causing errors and vey slow MS Office document access
>From smb.conf: hosts allow = 10.0.0. 127. Same story using the following syntax instead: hosts allow = 10.0.0.0/24 127.0.0.1/8 If I comment out the hosts allow line, the slow MS Office document access and most of the errors in the log go away. >From log.samba: [2013/07/04 00:15:52, 0] ../auth/ntlmssp/ntlmssp_sign.c:236(ntlmssp_check_packet) NTLMSSP NTLM2 packet check failed due to

Failing to get pxechain.com working, SYSLINUX 3.86.
To start, I know I need to upgrade SYSLINUX, but since we are using the CMenu's it's not that easy of an upgrade. I have been (slowly) working on a new iPXE/pxelinux 4.04 install that I am migrating to. However, I have an interesting problem. Using any of the examples I have seen, I can not make pxechain.com work. "pxechain.com ::/path/pxelinux.0" "pxechain.com

Samba4: Folder Redirection GPO not working with Windows 7
Hi I have folder redirection working fine in XP. I see that W7 has taken the same configuration as I made in XP. Here is a screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/45150875/gpo.png Unfortunately, on w7, whilst the roaming profile is correctly set, there is no folder redirection. Nothing appears in the \\hh1\USERS folder for the user who has logged in. Upon opening the GPO editor as Administrator

OT: Firefox SSL error on Linux, Firefox OK on Windows - same web site
Using CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) on my Desktop with Mozilla Firefox 3.0.12. With one web site (LinkShare) I am getting an SSL error, after clicking to get a more advanced report I do not get that error, using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.13 on M$ Windows and I get the report OK on Windows. It appears, when using Firefox on Linux, that it is not ending up on the LinkShare web site and Firefox is giving me the

Some Ubuntu stations can't logon when I upgraded Samba DC
Hi: I have two DCs with debian 10 and Samba 4.7.4 working find. In my network, I have different OSs workstations: W7, W10, Ubuntu and Mint. They have been log-in every day without problem. And samba-tool dbcheck returns no error on both DCs. As the Samba version is too old, I wanted to upgrade first from 4.7.4 to 4.7.12 using the source code. ./configure make make install Just as I did

Samba internal dns stops work on load
Hi! I'm having some trouble with samba internal dns - it is acting as a forwarder too. If a few users (1 or 2) are logged in, OK. But if more users are logged in, no name is resolved. So every (exactly) 10 minutes I see high IO usage (samba process writes about +500MB in disk, I don't know where) and samba logs: ../source4/dsdb/dns/dns_update.c:294(dnsupdate_nameupdate_done)

[LLVMdev] The Incredible Shrinking Bytecode File
Hi, I've just committed changes that enable bytecode compression in the various tools. This means that all bytecode files produced by LLVM will be significantly smaller. The performance penalty for compression and decompression has been determined to be small in the face of other work applied to the bytecode files. For example, compression/decompression added about 300 milliseconds of CPU

[LLVMdev] Incredible effects of extending AtomicSDNode::Ops
Hello, As part of enhancing atomic operations in the ARM backend, we need to extend the Ops array in AtomicSDNode. This array is a private member of AtomicSDNode, so it's only accessible within 85 lines of code, none of which have anything to do with its size. Therefore, increasing the size of Ops shouldn't at all affect the behaviour of LLVM, we supposed. Much to our surprise, this
