Transfer of FSMO Roles
Good Afternoon,
I've been working towards decommissioning my current PDC and moving Primary Master to a newly built DC. I was able to successfully transfer each of the five FSMO roles (without seizing) to the new server. I can run samba-tool fsmo show on each of my servers and they all return the new DC with each of the five roles. My question is...shouldn't transferring of the

Transfer the FSMO roles
I've been thinking if it's better to make a new Samba 4 DC server instead
upgrade the old DC and then transfer the FSMO roles to it and shut down the
old server.
This way the installation would be cleaner and free of any errors of the
old installation.
I'm using Samba 4.2.1 and the result of command below is:
root at EMPRESA:~# samba-tool fsmo show

Error while transferring fsmo-roles
Hi,
I faced the same problem, solved it by adding the line
import samba.drs_utils
to the file fsmo.py.
When building samba yourself, from withtin the base directory you can
apply this patch file to do it for you:
--- python/samba/netcmd/fsmo.py.old 2016-12-05 08:18:44.000000000 +0000

FSMO Roles / DC Deletion Errors
Hi all-
I've been polishing my Samba4 AD set-up as we get close to deploying it the office. However, one thing that I'm having issues with is FSMO roles and DCs. The gist of the situation is that I can not demote the original DC. Both DCs are implemented with Samba4, running the same version (4.0.3) and have replication working*
Here is a summary of everything I've noticed:

Error while transferring fsmo-roles
Hello,
I transfered all fsmo-roles from a DC (4.3.11-SerNet, SLES 11 SP3) to another DC (4.6.6-SerNet, SLES 12 SP2).
I had to try a couple of times because of an error "Failed FSMO transfer: NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT"
But then following error happened:
samba-tool fsmo transfer --role=all
This DC already has the 'rid' FSMO role
This DC already has the 'pdc' FSMO role

Multiple DC haven't HA on Windows
Hello, thanks for your response.
I'm using samba_internal as DNS because I don't want to add bind to only

It is secure to transfer roles and demote DC?
Hello:
I want transfer FSMO roles from a DC and then demote it, I was reading
the wiki and there is an advice about a bug [1] with samba-tool that
prevents that two roles be transferred, when you use "samba-tool fsmo
transfer".
The DC that I want to demote is also a file server. But if something
goes wrong I don't want to reinstall the File Server. I can see that the
bug is

Transfer FSMO roles [SEC=UNOFFICIAL]
UNOFFICIAL
Hi,
I am running an old SAMBA DC (Bilbo) that I want to upgrade. I installed the latest version of SAMBA 4 on an old PC (jimbo) and joined the domain. I intend to transfer the FSMO roles, upgrade Bilbo and transfer the roles back.
I have transferred all roles except domaindns and forestdns. Jimbo says that these roles have no owner but Bilbo thinks it is the owner.
Is there some way

netbios alias and AD trouble
Hello there
I've got two samba servers srv1 and srv2
smb.conf for srv1:
netbios aliases srv1-alias
smb.conf for srv2:
netbios aliases srv2-alias
DNS is configured all right and resolves the names. Each name has got
its own IP address.
Both servers are AD members, run as expected and can be connected to via
their netbios and netbios alias names.
If, for example, srv1 fails I want to add

transfer FSMO roles from Windows DC
I have the Active Directory domain with Windows 2008 R2 domain controller and Samba domain controller on CentOS 7. Samba is 4.3.5 (self-compiled). Forest and domain levels are Windows 2008 R2.
After joining Samba to the domain as the domain controller there were no DC=ForestDnsZones and DC=DomainDnsZones records on "OUTBOUND NEIGHBORS". I fixed it with ntdsutil, as it's written here
