Linux does not care. Only Windows cares.

The posix name of the server does not matter. Nor does the DNS name
as it can have more than one DNS name. You need to work with Samba as
a somewhat separate entity. It is simply easier to match

Samba4 FreBSD
Having some issues with:
samba_dnsupdate
Specifically:
/usr/bin/nsupdate: cannot specify -g or -o, program not linked with
GSS API Library
I've looked through the script, and cannot find these options called.
If anyone can point me to where they're called I'd appreciate it.

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?
If samba 3, which ldap server are you using>
What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type
of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory
Server.) If you have one

What OS are you using? If Linux then make sure share file system is
xattrs capable and enable it in /etc/fstab (I believe). If not you
can use:
posix:eadb = /usr/local/samba/private/eadb.tdb
in global. This does NOT scale well.

Microsoft Hyper-V over SMB 3.0
We have a project about Microsoft Hyper-V by using our storage. We want to
use Samba to share our storage to Hyper-V.
And we know from Microsoft homepage hyper-v(windows 2012) only support
smb3.0 protocol, but right now the newest version of Samba don?t? fully
support SMB3.0 protocol. I tried the version of Samba4.0.6, Samba3.6.9,
but both failed to create virtual hosts using Hyper-V.

Problems adding domain policies in debian 7 with samba4.0.6
Hi once again my greetings I rewrite because I'm in the same situation
but this time in debian 7 using samba4.0.6. The account lockout policy
does not work, got help from some colleagues but nothing I fail to solve
the problem, I have recommended using Zentyal 3.0 but it's my favorite
distro is debian and do not feel right changing. This time I used a

Samba 4 Cleanup Managing and Otherwise
OK, there has got to be a way to work with this thing other than
wiping the Domain every time an error pops up.
Trying to resolve problems I did a git upgrade and:

Which provided the unhelpful:
Found 3 domain controllers, for the moment upgradeprovision is not

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly[Closed]
Unfortunately we're not able to install more software of radically change any configurations. We also do not use LDAP (just a workgroup, hosts file, static IPs and Samba). But those are good ideas, I'll keep them in mind just in case. Major thanks.
:-)

FW: Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Takahashi, thanks for your response.
No antivirus software is installed, firewall disabled completely.
I might have to go the sniffer route. But this is XP and Samba, both old products. I can't imagine that I'd be the first one to have such a ridiculous problem trying to get XP to be able to browse a Samba box. This is fresh WinXP right out of the box (with SP3) having this problem,

FW: smbd *not* breaking hard links when saving files
Hi Tim et al.,
Yes, I can see that the new behaviour would seem like an 'optimization',
possibly especially for large files, in that it saves the unlink operation.
was (quasi): unlink, open(write), write data, close
now is (quasi): open(write, truncate), write data, close
However, this old behaviour enabled my rather nice hard link copy (cheap!) local
backup.
The question is, is the

Samba setting read only on document on share
Hello all
How do you allow someone in a particular group (i.e. the group writers in my
example below) other than the creator of a file (the owner) to set a
document as being read only? This is the only problem I am facing with my
samba shares at the mo which I need to fix, so any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Hope this makes sense!

Samba4-alpha11
Just thought I'd say that samba4 is working quite nicely. Samba4 DC
on Ubuntu server. Added a W2k3R2 and W2k8R2 server as DC's. Took a
little bit of play to get it done, but not much.
The only thing I've noticed so far (still in early lab stage) is a GC
issue.
Now if I can upgrade a Samba3-LDAP domain....
Cheers,
